My friends & I enjoyed our stay at the renovated Edgewater. It's a historic, ideally-located hotel in a classic college town. However, the $15/day "resort fee" was a little odd (didn't feel like we were at a resort) and the $18/day parking fee is not in line with college town pricing. Still, a very buck (& convenient) place to stay.

Check in is easy and convenient. Onsite underground self parking or valet. Wonderful restaurant overlooking the water or fab restaurants with a few blocks around the capitol, great walking through University campus. All in all a great stop on our way to Chicago for Thanksgiving. Made the drive into Miracle Mile a lot easier.

Twelve of us went to Madison for a Fall getaway and stayed at the Edgewater. It literally is on the edge of Lake Mendota. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The staff in the bar and coffee shop were very friendly and competent There is a spa fee of $15 you can't get out of. Turns out besides the... More

This is a beautiful, luxurious hotel with a great location in downtown Madison just off the square. The hotel is very comfortable, safe and quiet. There is an additional "resort charge" of $15 added to the room, which I was unaware was going to be added. Not sure what this was for?

This hotel is a beautiful property right on the gorgeous Lake Mendota. The lobby is updated and elegant and the guest rooms are lovely and spacious and so are the bathrooms. The restaurant was top notch. We loved having Jeff as our waiter in the morning and the breakfast food was outstanding two days in a row. We ate there... More

when you pull up to the place, you won't see the name of the hotel first, you will see their restaurant signage, which is a bit confusing and odd. nice bathroom, but shower head could have been bigger/harder/nicer. self-parking seems a bit expensive for Madison.

The Edgewater is a first class establishment. For tourists or business people. The room was quiet and well appointed. The bar/restaurant had great service and tasty food. None of this was cheap, so don't look at the bill when you sign it! But I left knowing that I'd come back the next time I'm in town.

A long-time landmark in Madison, this hotel was enlarged and renovated about two years ago. They did a marvelous job. The new tower has large, beautiful rooms, large bathrooms and walk-in shower, wonderful smelling soap, very comfy beds. The front desk personnel were very friendly and even upgraded our room because they had one ready when we arrived (which was... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As Madison's first and only AAA Four Diamond property, The Edgewater is the proud revival of an historic hotel, right on the shores of Lake Mendota, adjacent to the University of Wisconsin and steps from the state Capitol, in the heart of downtown Madison. The restored property maintains the classic facade of its predecessor, now called The Langdon Building, and a new tower, The Wisconsin Building, all with completely new interiors, several restaurants, a magnificent spa, ballrooms, and a large plaza that connects both hotel guests and the public with the beautiful waters of the lake. The hotel has 202 guest rooms, the majority offering gorgeous lake views, including presidential suites and studios with kitchenettes. The Edgewater Spa provides fitness and personal training overlooking Lake Mendota, as well as full service, customized hair, makeup, nail services and relaxing massage. Restaurant options range from The Statehouse for distinctive dining, to The Boathouse, a bar and restaurant in the great Wisconsin tradition of casual waterfront spots, The Icehouse for very casual dining, and The Cafe, for coffee and lighter fare throughout the day. Meeting and banquet facilities range from The Grand Ballroom and Mendota Ballroom, both in the Wisconsin Building, to The Red Crown Club on top of the Langdon Building, offering versatility and spectacular views of Lake Mendota. The Plaza lies at the heart of The Edgewater between The Langdon Building and the Wisconsin Building, almost an acre, open to the public with regularly scheduled outdoor events, concerts and celebrations, converting in winter to a skating rink. ... more   less
