So, if you don't enjoy quirky, this isn't the place for you. The gardens are lovely, the common rooms reflect a British genteel shabbiness. If you're looking for glitz you're in the wrong place, but if you enjoy the comfort of your grandmother's house you'll be happy. The hot water bottles that warm you tootsies at night are absolute heaven....

We selected this venue as a slice of colonial luxury on our three week stay in Sri Lanka. This is a club and not a hotel but we were disappointed by the quality of the food, the standard of staff dress and the dated nature of the rooms. We used the formal dining room on our first evening and selected...

The hotel is old fashioned but very nice. They put hot water bottles in your bed in the evening. You had a choice in the evening to have food in on formal dinning room or were a jacket and tie and dine in the formal dinning room which the food and service was very good. If you did not have...

I have been staying at the Hill Club since I was a child. We stay here at least twice a year for the past 10yrs. We just love the old world charm, the attentive staff, attention to detail like hot water bottles in bed, turn down service & the manicured garden! One could sit out here for hours! Suggestions 1)...

The main building of the hotel (the forme gentlemen club) restricts access to children under 5. Then, if you are a family with a kid this age, you have to get room in another building (the recent one) which is not charming at all, and not very comfortable. Moreover, you cannot even get dinner with him/her in the main building....

It's one of those places you either love or hate. The lovers will enjoy the old fashioned quirkiness of it all, including hot water bottles in your beds, to dressing up for dinner. The haters will find it shabby and archaic. We loved it! We were part of a group tour and most people loved is quirkiness. Beautiful grounds, comfortable...

This is like stepping back in time. Wonderful spot. Beautiful grounds. We ate the Sri Lankan option in the formal dining room and the food was superb. Staff were so helpful. Rooms beautiful and grand. Very well worth the visit.

We stayed here as part of a package tour. On first view it looks very grand, but was disappointed as a lot of the decoration is very shabby. The waiters had holes in their uniforms and some uniforms could do with a good wash. We were not prepared for this hotel as it was tie and jacket for the restaurant,...

Staff unhelpful, service bad and room carpet dirty, surfaces in the bedroom and bathroom had not been cleaned for a long time. The setting is beautiful but it is a members club and not geared up to be a quality hotel. It's more show than substance. The room looks nothing like the picture on the website. The electrical fittings in...

As I first caught sight of The Hill Club Hotel, it made me think of that bygone era, the golden age of imperial splendor - its neat and beautifully manicured grounds, the stately look and feel of the place... The service staff were friendly and efficient, ready to tend to my any need; my room was clean and comfortable -...
