Detailed Reviews
I can only wholeheartedly echo the feedback other reviewers have given. This is an oasis in the middle of Kampot with plants everywhere. The design is Art Deco. We stayed in the large 107 room which has its own spacious terrace. Lots of attention to detail (e.g. nice woven waste bins rather than the horrible plastic ones; water provided in the room in glass bottles etc). Service absolutely top notch. You go to the pool, they immediately bring water and ask if you would like anything; dishes are immediately cleared. Everyone super friendly. Good selection of food and drinks. Can’t praise this place highly enough. Many hotels use Covid as an excuse for sloppy service and very limited food and drinks supplies - not this hotel. Highly recommended.

My partner and I loved the 4 nights we stayed at Hotel Old Cinema.
Our room was clean and comfortable and I loved the Art Deco theme throughout. Although there wasn’t a lot of choice, the breakfast was delicious and the fresh French press coffee was a great touch, all served in a tropical little oasis of calm!
The location was great - very close to the Ibis bus office, and a short walk from some great bars and restaurants as well as the river cruises.
The service was excellent. They organised motorbike hire for us on request and gave loads of great info when we wanted to go to explore Bokor Mountain. They also organised a taxi to the airport for us.
You can see the love and care that goes into this place. I would absolutely stay again and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kampot. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Where do I even start, from beginning to end I’ve had such a good experience. The building of the hotel is absolutely beautiful, the entrance is another beautifully designed space - very open, light and with a lot of plants which gives a very relaxing feeling.
The room has so many little details and you can see and feel that there’s been put a lot of thought in the design to make the guests experience as comfortable as possible. The bed is very comfortable (love all the cushions on the bed) and there’s a lot of space in the room to put your belongings. The balcony was a real plus too, as it looks over the garden which makes you feel like you’re in nature and not in a busy city.
I’ve had breakfast and dinner at the hotel and both were delicious, the area where the restaurant is, is next to the swimming pool and has a very serene vibe.
The owners and staff are really friendly and always there if you need anything or just to have a nice chat! I had to leave in the early morning and they even arranged an earlier breakfast for me.
Thank you very much for everything, I can’t wait to stay here again!

This is a really special gem, like a little oasis in Kampot. The whole experience of Hotel Old Cinema is delightful. The rooms and decor (eclectic, but predominantly art deco) are beautiful yet still retain a warm comfortable feel. The beds are amazingly comfortable, my room had an attached balcony, with plants and greenery every which way. (I think every room has a balcony). The rooms are cool to escape hot Cambodian days, with excellent airconiditioning. There is a bar and restaurant, serving interesting cocktails and food, wine and craft beer, with vegetarian and vegan options. You can sit at a large bar and enjoy talking with other guests or sit beside the pool. The pool is another beautiful area, to take a plunge and cool down at the end of the day. And the breakfasts are awesome with a choice of styles (once again catering to vegetarian), khmer options or European style served with hot coffee and juice. The best part of the experience is the owners Bas and Pauline and their team. They are are welcoming and warm hosts. Could not recommend a place I have stayed in Cambodia more highly.

We were lucky to book this beautiful property for two nights of what was a true vacation experience. Had some horrible experiences in Cambodia and this Hotel was our saving grace. The owners are so welcoming and helpful. The rooms, courtyard and pool are so tastefully decorated and the attention to detail is impeccable. There are live plants in the rooms and balconies! I can’t say enough about the breakfasts- French press coffee included!!! Fully stacked bar and delicious food. It is a true boutique experience. A++++++++

A reasonable stay made very enjoyable by the service provided by Bas which earnt an extra star.
The room itself was a little tired for the rate and I got the sense they were managing their costs tightly. This was most obvious when they only served black coffee at breakfast and you only got milk if you asked, but they never offered it. My wife also needed a small glass of milk to take some medication and was charged for such a small serve which told me when you are paying $70USD per night in Cambodia, they were still struggling to make money. This was as expensive as some of the other hotels in Cambodia, but we got a lot more for the rate, even in Phnom Penh.
The location of the hotel is good and we really didn't stay long enough to fully enjoy with only two nights in total across the week. Bas provided great service organising drivers for pick up to Phnom Penh, drop off to the Vietnam border and then back again. This made our transit planning very easy and I really appreciated this.

We'd heard great things about the Old Cinema from a lot of different friends, so decided to cut a trip to Kep short to spend a night there. We were not disappointed, and it completely lived up to the hype. The property is beautiful, and located in the historic Old Quarter a two minute walk to the Riverside, has been thoughtfully designed with an Art Deco theme throughout to acknowledge the building's previous lives as a theatre and cinema. The attention to design detail is extraordinary, right down to intricate hand painted doors in the rooms along with vases and garden planters all echoing the Art Deco esthetic. Our room was beautiful and extremely well appointed, with a spacious outdoor terrace overlooking the pool. The restaurant and bar area next to the pool is beautiful and filled with lush greenery, and breakfast was included and was not what we were expecting as a "free breakfast with room": there were multiple options that were delicious and beautifully presented with plentiful plunger coffee from a local roaster. Looking at the full restaurant menu over breakfast we kind of regretted that we'd book elsewhere for dinner in town the night before as we suddenly felt like we'd missed out and regretted that we didn't have another night to dine in the hotel. Finally, the hosts and staff were amazing and always at hand to ensure their guests were happy and enjoying their stay. Absolutely flawless. We'll definitely be back, and not for just one night next time!

This "new" hotel has been meticulously renovated from a decrepit cinema to a work of art. We had expected a bigger room for the $70 we paid per night, but it was clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The service was fantastic, especially at breakfast, where we were allowed to pick and choose from the set meals that walk-in customers are offered. As a result we got avocado instead of tomato with eggs and bacon when we ordered that. The location is fairly central, too.

Good location in the heart of town, a simple one- or two-block walk from the Giant Ibis and Kampot Transport bus stops and easy access to restaurants, shops and services. My room was huge, spotless and uniquely designed. The huge, breezy covered balcony was a highlight. Everything worked perfectly including the cold mini-fridge (never a given in any hotel). The pool area was very nice and friendly staff included the two resident cats. This was definitely my favorite hotel in Cambodia.

I absolutely loved Hotel Old Cinema. Not only is it in the best location in town near the river, it has been beautifully renovated to a gorgeous boutique hotel that offers the perfect balance of luxury and ambiance. I had the pleasure of staying in a suite & queen room, both spacious and decorated with impeccable attention to detail. The beds were comfortable, the shower a bit hit and miss with hot water as was the wifi but I could easily overlook that for everything else this property offered. We had breakfast each morning and a dinner one night and the chef is first class, everything was delicious. The staff are also awesome, each one of them and thank you to Bas & the girls for making our stay so comfortable. I highly recommend this property… it deserves its high reviews!
