Not easy to find, especially as Google take you to a closed side entrance. The accommodation is within a 500-acre estate that has been stocked with giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, blesbok, impala and kudu – it’s delightful to see the animals roaming freely upon arrival. The accommodation is dark and has the feel of the 1950s or 1960s however South African...

We finished our 3-week holiday in South Africa with a 3-night stay at Fugitive's Drift, an absolutely wonderful conclusion to a trip full of highlights. We booked the Guest House but found we'd been upgraded on arrival to the Lodge. Both places are beautiful and are set in stunning landscape. Giraffe, zebra, and all sorts of antelope species wander through...

Recent erosion made the trip in from Dundee interesting. Two nights of intense electrical storms provided the entertainment but our memories will stay with the talks given by Douglas and Andrew Rattray, fascinating and emotional. We had room 6 at the guest house which is in close proximity to the original farmhouse dining room. First time I've appreciated an electric...

I first went to Fugitives Drift Lodhe in 2003 and the experience left a lasting impression. Since then I have recommended many friends to go there to learn more about the evolution of the people of South Africa. Whilst the tours concentrate on the battles at Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift one gets drawn in to the history of the Zulu...

What can I say? We've never visited a place where you are made to feel so welcome. Meals are served as part of the family at a dinner party. We went on one walk and two battlefields tours. Perfect! We sat under a tree drinking water and eating flapjack whilst our guide brought to life the Zulu wars. Would recommend...

Not to be missed. Yes, there is the unforgettable story of Rorke's Drift & Isandlwana, which in itself is worth the trip. But you get a picture of life in the country whilst getting there and the ability just to wander around the reserve....and get within feet of the giraffe, zebra and other wildlife. The Lodge team, both the Rattray...

It's hard to write anything new about this place that hasn't already been said. So I'll just say thank you to everyone at Fugitives Drift for a memorable experience. A special mention to Douglas who gave us such an entertaining breakfast on the last day of our stay.

A further visit and this place gets better. A major renovation with additional new rooms and the removal of some rooms has left capacity the same but the quality of the rooms has got even better. The food and staff are as always perfection, the historical trips are second to none. If you are in the area this is a...

Rorke's Drift & Usandlwana battlefields close to Fugitive's Drift Lodge. This property is 40km on a semi dirt road, which is easily drivable in any car. The Rattray family are welcoming with magnificent historic stories to tell. We were eager to get to the sites the following day and were not dismayed. Both Douglas and Andrew experts on the history...

We enjoyed every minute of the experience - and it truly is an experience from the outstanding position of the Lodge , the quality of the service , rooms and food to the exceptional , emotional and thought provoking tours of the battlefield sites ....
