Located in the heart of the Historic District, The DeSoto reigns as “Savannah’s hotel.” She is a beloved landmark that has played a gracious hostess to presidents, celebrities and visitors since 1890. Treasured period details, including original crystal chandeliers and terracotta tiles, mix seamlessly with contemporary art, creating a thoughtful juxtaposition between history and modern-day style. When you stay at The DeSoto, you're within walking distance of so many famous attractions including Forsyth Park, River Street and City Market. You'll love the view over beautiful Madison Square from our rooftop pool and patio. Dine in one of two on-site chef-driven restaurants (Proof & Provision or 1540 Room). With over 20,000 sq. feet, our meeting and event space features panoramic views of the city, perfect for any gathering, business event or wedding reception.

I came to Savannah for the first time for a family wedding. Stayed at the Desoto. In the heart of the historic district, the Desoto, I learned, was built on the site of a Revolutionary barracks. It's a great location to walk the historic district. Shortly after checking in, I was texted by the front desk welcoming me again and informing me if I needed anything from how to access wifi to amenities provided on the premises, to just say the word. I tried to settle down for the first night but my neighbors were still quite rambunctious at 11:30pm. I called the desk and they relocated me to a quiet room. While an inconvenience, it was awfully nice that the staff were so helpful. Overall, the stay was really fabulous and I had a great adventure walking the historic district with a central location to stay. The staff have been most responsive to my needs. I'll be back.

Hotel's Favourite
With a daughter enrolled in SCAD, we've been visiting Savannah for years now, and without hesitation, we wholeheartedly endorse The DeSoto as the best choice for hotel stay in the historic district. We've stayed other places, and there are plenty of lovely choices. But none make you feel personally valued and welcome back like The DeSoto. They do their level best to be helpful, friendly and courteous. The rooms are gorgeous and always clean. The food is delicious, and the cocktails in the bar are sublime.

Melissa, welcome back to The DeSoto Savannah! From our excellent location to our fresh accommodations, we are delighted that our devoted associates continue to have a memorable impact on your stay. It is also great to know you enjoyed some barrel-aged cocktails at Edgar's Proof & Provision, one of Savannah's most sought-after indoor-outdoor settings for craft cocktails and casual dining. We look forward to your next stay and, until then, wish you safe travels! Warm regards, Jay Wiendl Managing Director

We enjoyed our stay. The hotel is older but has updates. The room was good and had a beautiful view. Due to COVID, there were a few things they could have done better, like having the rooms better supplied since they didn’t offer daily maid service. They were accommodating when I made a request. Really enjoyed happy hour on the terrace. The location is good and within walking distance of so many things to do and good places to eat.

This hotel is so poorly managed! Our first impression after walking into the lobby was a WOW, because of the SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design) art displayed throughout. However, our experience just went down from there. The rooms need a lot of updating! No maid service, unless you request it. No where is that disclosed. During our stay we experienced a fire alarm going off, absolute zero direction from the hotel. During and after!! We had to call the front desk to find out if it was real, or a drill and whether we should evacuate. Which we had to! We stayed here because we were told that the historic district was a great location. That it was, but this hotel is very overpriced for the level of room quality, amenities and services. I do want to give a shout-out to Amanda, the Concierge. She was the best thing about the hotel. I think her position should be elevated to hotel management. Customers beware of this one! There are many other properties at this price point to give your business to! It doesn't seem they care much!

I am not usually one to complain, but my experience at this hotel was not good so I thought I would write a review to help others when deciding to stay at this property or not. My main complaint was how dirty the room was. When we walked in we immediately noticed stains on the bedskirts, dust on the hard surfaces, a weird stain/residue on the floor next to the trash can and tons of hairs all over the bathroom floor and in the shower. My second biggest complaint is about the poor service. When we checked in at 4:30 pm, our room was not ready even though check in time is at 4. We were in a bit of a rush to shower and dress for a wedding, so we ended up downgrading our room to get a room that was ready but we still had to pay the price of our original room. When checking out, we asked to store our luggage with the front desk but were rudely refused and told to put it in our car instead. Instead of getting our car for us, the valet handed us our keys and had us trek down to the sub-basement to locate our car and drop our luggage ourselves and then return the keys back to them. This was not an inexpensive hotel and it looks decent on the website, so I feel a bit mislead by this property. I would not stay here again nor would I recommend it to friends. A note on covid: most staff had masks but kept them below their noses/mouths so were not using them properly In terms of the pros: it was in a very convenient/central location and there is a lobby bar/porch area.
