Decided to spend a few days on Oregon Coast. Started in Astoria. Picked the Norblad because we like older, quirky buildings. Norblad delivered in spades. Lots of charm in the building. No elevator. You have to walk up two flights to get to the front desk. Check in was quick and friendly. Lots of old album covers on the walls in the check in area. The walls have some cool paintings. Room was a corner suite. That was nice because we could actually open the windows and get a cross breeze. Traffic was more than I would have guessed for a small town like Astoria. So it was a little loud. Hotel offers ear plugs. A nice touch. We had our own bathroom. Other rooms had to share bathroom. Bathroom was large and had a window. That allows us to open up the room and keep the steam out of the room. Shower faucet was on other side from shower head. That was nice. The bathroom sink faucet was offset from the middle of the sink. That made it easy to get face in sink to wash and rinse. One thing about the shower. There are three containers in the shower that I think contain soap or shampoo. A label on the the containers would be nice. Finally, when I went to the front desk in the morning to find out about getting a newspaper and where is a coffee store, the kid at the front desk had no idea. But he was young. I realize that things are in flux right now, but I would of hoped for a little more information. This is a good place to stay and when we come back to Astoria, we will stay here.…
I usually hesitate when booking a room with a "shared" bathroom, but my experience at the Norblad was excellent! There is a sink in the room to wash-up with and brush your teeth and there are several "shared bathrooms" near bye to choose from. On top of that the bathrooms are extremely clean. Rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff are very friendly and helpful. There is plenty of parking outside the street and there is good coffee in the lobby every morning! And the cherry on top, two the best breweries in Astoria are less than a block away. Don't hesitate to book this hotel!
We had expected the Norblad to be a boutique-type hotel but it felt much simpler than that. Be prepared to walk up 2 flights of steps with your luggage. Rooms are pretty “bare bones” . No hair dryer in the room but available upon request. The problem was that there was no desk attendant to ask for one when we needed it in the morning. The shared baths and showers were clean and we didn’t ever need to wait to use. No coffee in the morning and we couldn’t find any open coffee shops nearby. So now for the positives: everything was very clean. Beds and pillows were really comfortable. Great location downtown. All in all, a fine stay but not fancy at all.
We did a tour of this quaint little hotel last time we were in Astoria and decided on this trip to give it a try. We brought along our pup as they are dog friendly and offer a Pendleton dog bed, food/water bowl and mat for a fee of $20. Staff is very nice and we had a comfortable stay. We loved that we could walk everywhere as they are smack dab in the middle of town. Bed was very comfy and sound level was quiet for us. Can't wait to go back.
Definitely one of my top 3 hotels I have ever stayed in. The team is extremely friendly and helpful. The shared bathrooms and shower are kept unbelievably clean. The kitchen is great. The lobby is beautiful. The rooms are large and clean. The location is top notch. Highly recommend this hotel.
