We had the evening and morning to see Mammoth while on the way up to Yosemite. It was a novety for us to stay in a small mountain lodge and we enjoyed its authenticity. We had a very large room with a fireplace, kitchenette and grab n go breakfast featuring fresh, homemade bananna bread and good coffee. The staff answered all of our questions about Austria Hof’s story and even gave me some great tips on getting gas and road conditions up ahead. The lodge has its own restaurant and a hot tub on a deck overlooking the small ski slope and lift area. It’s next to slopes and very close to everything Mammoth 🦣 lakes village has to offer. Can’t wait to go back in winter to ski and fall to walk beautiful trails to nearby lakes.
we booked a 3 night stay here, fishing trip. we got a great room with a jetted tub, kitchenette, and gas fireplace. room was clean. staff very helpful. comfy bed. the restaurant and bar downstairs was VERY good, thanks Wally !! took all of 15 seconds to be back in the room. we will be back next time as this was a great value.
We decided to stay here in the middle of a week-long road trip to give ourselves an opportunity to shower and hopefully sleep on a nice mattress. Shower/bath, check. Nice mattress, not so much... Wish we had paid a little extra for a nice bed, although I'm not sure if they have those at this lodge. There were a lot of weird noises that kept waking us up at night too. We were impressed with the large jetted tub in the suite upgrade though. It was just what we needed. We had dinner at the restaurant downstairs and we were not disappointed. The food and beverages were delicious! They allowed us to check in early too, which was great. Had we known the campground at Twin Lakes offers showers though, we probably would have just gone there a day early instead. Location is decent and staff was friendly enough.…
I am writing this review for people who want to book with them or people who are staying, please check thoroughly the condition of the room/condo upon check in and report immediately for any problem, otherwise they will ask you to pay for any damage even you don't cause it. This including anything: cracks on the plates, cups, cracks on the microwave handle, dis-funtional heater, broken pots... oh, did I mention their internet speed is so slow that you think you are in the dial-up age? We are returning royal customers, didn't have any issue before. But this time, after checking out they told us we broken the slow cooker and caused the crack on the microwave door handle. We didn't use the slow cooker at all. And for the crack on the microwave handle, it was already like that before we arrived, and we didn't notice after a few days. Was trying to talk to them over the phone, but I received very impatient respond, was treated like criminals. And got blamed for not reporting to them... After got charged for the "damage" several days later without any communication from them, I once again contacted them for a receipt of this charge, no respond or whatsoever... So bye Austria Hof Lodge, you just lost another customer. …
Their cancellation policy is deceiving. We made a mistake booking and read that it was refundable until 14 days prior to arrival. It turns out that they added a small fine print that they will charge 1st night regardless. I wish we read the reviews before booking. Lesson learned! Never again will we even consider Austria Hof Lodge.
Our room at Austria Hof was clean and comfortable, with a pretty view of the pines and mountains. The bar and restaurant downstairs served good hamburgers and a variety of local and imported beers, several on tap. Service was friendly and efficient. The lodge is at the top of the road, right by the ski-lifts. In the summer, the ski runs serve as mountain biking or hiking paths. It is quiet and the air is fresh — a real respite. We visited in August; it must be wonderful in winter.
Becareful walking down hill with luggage. Then climb a steep set of 12 metal steps to get to small lobby. No air conditioning. Hot stuff room did give a loud small fan to move air. Barh jet, iron did not work. Shower only partially works as it should. Very high bath tub but no non slip stick on bath floor and no safety hand rails. THIS LACK OF SAFETY IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Room only had to hard chairs and small table. Room very dark as not enough light. Breakfast was served at 8 am! Green apples, small muffins, small cups of yogurt and banana bread Coffee was available. All had to be eaten in your room. No elevators. Difficult to have hot water on demand. Austria Hof caters to locals wanting happy hours drink prices and $$$ dinners. Good luck to find a parking space from 4 to 9:30 at night. Limited parking spaces all taken by bar crowd. Not once did a staff member ask how our stay was in Mammoth. Be careful if you use outdoor spa. Bottom of spa very slippery and water on warm: disappointing. Not a three star hotel. I would never recommend to anyone looking for place to stay in Mammoth Lakes. AGAIN ELDERLY AND DISABLED STAY AWAY - NOT SAFE AND NOT WANTED.…
We had sent an email stating we needed handicap parking. They said there was some. There is 1 and it was taken. They emailed there were stairs, okay but 14 to even get in the place. I have hip problems, my husband heart problems. The photos do not look like the front, but the room was clean and large. They put us in a front room with all the traffic from the slopes. I don’t like dishing on these establishments, however I do not recommend this property for anyone with a disability. And there are bear in the vicinity, so we had to haul ALL of our belongings into the room. Okay for some, not for the disabled.
Be aware they charge you the first night plus tax if you decided to cancel reservation even the next day. I reserved the room 3 weeks in advance and changed my mind the next day cause my plans were changed on that dates. After a long conversation with the hotel representative, they don't want to make a refund. So If you made a reservation by mistake or for any other reason just forget about your money. Use trusted services with good reviews and avoid scams. Absolutely bad impression even without visiting.
Refused to offer a partial or full refund to us due to our cancellation last year in light of the global pandemic. Lodge was closed every time we called and they have the gall to stand behind their 1-night forfeiture policy?! Truly disappointing and disheartening.
