A landmark luxury hotel in the heart of Manhattan, The Lowell rises 17-floors above an iconic residential neighborhood, and is steps away from the celebrated fashion houses of Madison and Fifth Avenues and the vast oasis of Central Park. The Lowell continues to be the most highly ranked hotel in New York City. The hotel was awarded the designation as the #1 Hotel in NYC from 2019 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards for the second year in a row, along with being recognized in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards as the #1 Hotel in NYC. The Lowell has been named the #1 Best Hotel in New York, the #1 Best Hotel in New York City and ranked #12 of the 50 Best Hotels in the USA 2020 by U.S. News & World Report in their annual Best Hotels rankings. Majorelle was bestowed the #1 spot for restaurant décor from Zagat’s New York City Restaurant Guide. Established in 1927, The Lowell reflects the timeless elegance and soul of the Upper East Side. The warmth of a familiar smile, attention to detail and discreet service welcome discerning guests as they move through chic classical spaces. Wood-burning fireplaces—a rare find in New York—landscaped terraces with sweeping city views are enjoyed in many of the sun-filled rooms and suites fashioned in the hotel’s distinctive style with the refined comforts of a private apartment. Legendary restaurateur Charles Masson oversees the property’s newest dining additions where guests come to escape the bustle of the city over seasonal cuisine at Majorelle and linger over the perfect martini at Jacques Bar. The Club Room at The Lowell offers a sophisticated setting to unwind, while the reimagined Pembroke Room upholds tradition with its beloved breakfast and afternoon tea.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A great location tucked away but yet near so much NY action! The room was quiet and so comfortable. Of course, the dining is some of the best in the US (even the bar food is good go go to Majorelle for a dining treat). This was our first visit to the Lowell (second to Majorelle). And we shall return for both!

Hotel's Favourite
The Lowell is as close as we will ever come to having a New York townhome. The doorman greets us by name. The Concierge and Front Desk staff welcome us back as if we are old friends. The attention to detail is amazing - beautiful rooms and impeccable housekeeping. We enjoyed dining in Majorelle and cocktails at Jacques Bar. The service in both was excellent. We can’t imagine staying anywhere else in NYC - The Lowell is just perfect.

NY as a New Yorker. Loved the location, the service, the food, the room. Outside is going though a retrofit, so not beautiful. The only minus is the elevator that could be faster (in doubt if both of them were working simultaneously)

Ahhhh possibly now one of our most favourite hotels in the world. Our first visit here after many visits to lots of different nyc hotels and we would definitely want to come back here. We stayed for our son’s 21st birthday - who is a UK student studying at Columbia. He too fell in love with the hotel. It was FABULOUS in every way and we are British hoteliers with 4 of our own. They made our son feel special with a cake and sparkling wine in his room. I had a bit of a nightmare trying to find decorations/balloons to decorate his room as a surprise with not much help from concierge and nothing to buy in any nearby shops, compared to England where they sell this stuff everywhere but we did the best job we could at short notice. All the staff were fabulous. Although I would say, my son being overwhelmed and exhausted, on checking out, forgot to pack some expensive champagne - Veuve Cliquot - and beautiful macarons we bought him at great expense and a giant bag of Red Vines candy. Within 3 hrs of leaving the room they had disappeared, even though we hadn’t officially left the hotel, they still had all our bags whilst we went shopping. I just think housekeeping should be meticulous at handing things in, to be held for say 48hrs rather than taking the stuff. The hotel were very kind and let us have some of their frozen macarons and a different bottle of champagne, but the staff should be trained to hand in ANYTHING found in the rooms when you’re paying this much to stay in a boutique hotel. Special mention must go to the receptionists, breakfast staff and doormen, they really made our trip.

I have been looking forward to staying at the Lowell for a long time. After all, it was rated number one in New York City by many! Walking into the lobby was unimpressive to say the least, but when when we were shown to our rooms, I was in absolute shock. The wallpaper was peeling, the carpets were stained and the room was generic and looked like a motel six. The room our traveling companions were staying in were just as bad, if not worse. They looked nothing like the rooms on the website. It was clear we were given those rooms because we were not celebrities. We were treated like third class citizens. I would like to give a shout out to Tony, who was the one bright spot in a completely disastrous experience. The Lowell should be ashamed of itself for charging these kind of prices. Stay far far away from this hotel.

What a classy, understated and beautiful hotel. Staff and service were flawless. We were in a renovated room which was very chic. Loved the complimentary champagne upon arrival. I also loved the fresh flowers everywhere. A really elegant upper east side experience. The only minor gripes were no coffee machine in the room (which for the price point you’d expect) and that you can’t stream from your phone to the room tv. An engineer had to come and install an Apple TV so that we could listen to Spotify in our room. Small things that can be easily fixed. Loved it though and would definitely come back!

The Lowell always feels like our home away from home. Our Junior Suite had a terrace and a fireplace. It was lovely!! The staff are what set the Lowell apart. Throughout the hotel, everyone who works there is delighted to see you and eager to make your stay perfect. They succeed at every turn. We can’t wait to get back there.

The Lowell Hotel is a boutique hotel in an amazing, quiet, convenient location. The staff are friendly, attentive, hard working, good people. The ambience is warm, cozy, elegant, beautiful and welcoming. The bar, restaurant and second floor Pembrook Rooms are top notch. I love this place and I will continue to return. I felt at home here!
