First, I was a little unsure about this place because it was in a great location but was only $99 a night. That's unheard of for NYC. Also, the website was kinda sketchy and well, interesting. The hotel is 2 blocks from the Empire State building, and so close to everything like shops and subway stops. The room itself was... More

Stayed 21 - 25th Aug 07. We had a renovated room on the 9th floor which was great 2 x big and really comfy beds, nice bathroom with powerful shower , flatscreen TV, could not fault the room for the price we paid. There was some work going on at the hotel, with much of the exterior of the building... More

Man, what a place. I had read some of the other reviews and can only say that the nay-sayers got it wrong. The hotel is in this fabulous location, the room I was in was newly re-furbished with a flat panel TV in the room, a free internet connection, and a bed that it to diw for. I slept better... More

The great location is only part of the reason I would recommend this budget-price, but semi-luxury hotel. We have just returned from 5 nights there and we booked the refurbished rooms specifically (to avoid the room 'lottery' that other reviewers spoke about). We were both astonished to see the luxurious modern style of the room when we opened the door.... More

Just returned from 5 days at the Herald Square and want to write a review of gratitude. I was very surprised when I read the last few reviews. They could not have stayed at The Herald Square. The rooms at The Herald are amazingly upgraded and equal to rooms at other hotels for twice as much. They are spacious with... More

I've stayed there for a short period of time and I was really disappionted by their service. They charged you by hotel's standard but the service is rather appalling, I would say, worse than some friendly and nice youth hostels. When I checked in, the reception was rude and impatient. If you arrive early, you have to put your luggage... More

Spent a week at this hotel. Room quite small, barely larger than the queen size bed. Long counter in room with upright chairs, but no comfy chairs to read or watch tv. Wi-Fi seemed to work well. No window in room -- apparently all rooms except the few in the front have no windows. Wall a/c unit, roars loudly enough... More

We entered this hotel with some reservations having read poor reviews. Although the reception is behind glass I didn't find this a problem. They were currently painting/decorating so there was scaffolding outside and wet paint inside. We were initially put in room 604. On entering the room it was disappointing. VERY small, old and tired looking bed sheets, no wardrobe,... More

The location is not bad, but could be better. From our perspective, we would have preferred to be closer to Times Square or the 42nd Street area. The street that the hotel is on (31st Street) is a bit dark and run-down and several buildings were undergoing renovations, including the hotel itself, making it a somewhat depressing street. The lobby... More

At $99 a night, booked on-line on their web site, this hotel was not only a bargain but was satisfactory in every way. I had a small older room but it was spotless, air-conditioned, had a in -room safe, super comfortable bed, the bathroom was clean and the towels changed every day ...in short, everything I needed as a single... Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
