We’ve been coming to Pod51 for several years now. We love the ambiance, the location and the free walking tours. The rooms are rather small but very efficiently laid out. The roof is awesome. Staff very accommodating. During our last stay we had a number of minor issues in our room (lightbulb over bathroom sink burnt out, room safe not working). All were remedied promptly by the hotel staff. We are looking forward to coming back soon!
It is a very well located hotel, reasonable price. We liked the design and, in particular, the room we had: bunk with individual screens. My son enjoyed this feature. We would certainly get back if given the opportunity.
This place is perfectly located in Midtown, the rooms are just what I need. Clean, bright, bed, toilet, great shower, sink, good light!, desk, internet, TV. What else? All in a nice package. This is a great place to stay when you want to have a nice place to sleep, and enjoy the city
The room was tiny but it had two windows and was bright and cheerful. The room was clean and the staff were friendly. This is a budget hotel, but everything went well and I was happy with my experience.
very good hotel really recommend , one of the bathrooms on the third floor doesn't have hot water. but other than that very well spent money , very good location and place . great service and room cleaning great staff
My room wasn’t as clean as I had hoped. There was a clump of hair in the track that prevented the bathroom door from closing. I had to hold the faucet handle on to get the sink to work…it was broken & laying in the sink. The vents were packed with dust, there was some dried on substance on the phone, the remote was sticky & there was hair in the bed & on the desk. I was on a tight schedule & I didn't have time for someone to be in my room fixing things. I showed the front desk pics of the things when I was checking out. At the very least an apology would have been nice & a discounted stay would have been above & beyond…neither one happened.
We booked this hotel and flights through a local Travel Agent. Trip of a lifetime with a friend. Whilst the hotel is central enough, it lacks any atmosphere whatsoever! Upon check-in we were told they required a credit card in case there were any breakages/damage done to the room. We are two women in our 50’s and were bemused by this rather inappropriate request. However, we did so. They then demanded a city tax. We explained that this had been prepaid by the travel agent. After much confusion at their end and us providing proof of this, they said it was okay. The corridors are like a scene from Kojak (if you are of a certain age, you will know what I mean)! The rooms are extremely small and compact but we knew this beforehand and were using the hotel as a base. The bed was very strange - sideways so that if you lay on it, your feet dangled off the end. We ended up having to top & tail the opposite way so that we could sleep! Shower/toilet has a part frosted glass panel but slide it along completely when you are in the shower, and it is clear!! Can I just point out we are good friends since school so thankfully we weren’t put off by this but it gives no privacy whatsoever!!!! It could be noisy at night and seemed to be a younger persons place. Lots of weed smells along corridors!!! More like a hostel than a hotel in my opinion. Once home, I noticed a charge of $45.92 I was confused at this and contacted the hotel. I was informed this was a “facility fee” charged by the hotel for Wi-Fi, luggage storage etc!! I DID NOT authorise my card to be charged and they took this fraudulently (in my opinion). I have tried unsuccessfully on numerous occasions to explain to the hotel but to no avail. We both agreed this hotel was overpriced for what it is. More like a student hostel than a “hotel” and although centrally based, there are plenty hotels offering a nicer product than this one at a similar price.…
I stay at Pod 51 every time I travel to NYC, which is mostly short trips for fun. I easily walk to/from from Penn Station. This location is perfect - in a quiet-ish "neighborhood" with great coffee, sports bar/restaurant (open late) & Thai food literally next door. I will always choose modern/clean/updated over size. I love Pod 51!
The Pod hotels are a good value for travel to NYC. The rooms are clean and attractive, The beds are comfortable but everything is very basic. The en suite bathrooms are very small but functional. The neighborhood for Pod51 is safe and convenient for transportation and places to eat.
I had booked a Single Pod with a shared bathroom for admittedly a very reasonable price. Having said that, the room was dark and ill-furnished: for instance, there was no power socket near the bed so I had to charge my devices by putting them on the sink. Also, the bathrooms in the corridor were dirty, did only have a single hook to hang both your wet towel AND your clothes on (not a great combination), and the wall light was so hot that it burned me. In sum, an affordable hotel that does not attempt to make you feel comfortable or at home.
