Japanese run hotel in New York with perfect service and well appointed rooms. The staff is mostly Japanese, so very serene and efficient checkin. I was provided with a room upgrade upon checkin ( a junior suite), which was enormous and extremely comfortable. The room was impeccable, the hotel is extremely quiet (could not hear any other rooms or traffic on Park Ave), and the breakfast buffet had an excellent mix of Japanese and American items (a la carte also available). And the location is one of the best. Highly recommend it.

We had a really nice stay for a week. We arrived in the morning before checkin time, the receptionist gave us the option of checking in early for a smoking room or wait for a non smoking after 3PM. After a quick look at the smoking room decided to wait as I didn't like the smoking smell. Never the less its a nice gesture. The rooms we had was facing the empire state building. It was clean, big and really quiet. The windows have good sound proofing. It had blackout curtains and kingsize bed, the matress was very soft, easy to feel your partner moving at night. The bathroom had bathttub, japanese toilet and a towelwarmer! The minibar is automatic and drinks are really expensive, there is a small space for your personal items. A water boiler is provided with tea and coffee. We had breakfast one day but found it disappointing, not so much choice and for 35usd/pp too expensive, we ate breakfast outside (There is a nice cafe called Scottys Diner nearby). We never had dinner as again it seemed very expensive. Internet has to be paid and is around 10 usd/day. If you join their loyalty program and book through their website its free. Location is close to everything but not busy. I booked this hotel because of the quiet rooms and that did not disappoint, I would definitely stay again here.

I booked the Kitano last minute for a one night stay because I had a plumbing issue at my house. I would say my experience was mixed. On the good, let me say that their rooms are quite lovely, on the larger side for New York City and extremely quiet. The bathrooms have Japanese toilets, which is fun, and old fashioned but luxurious seeming details like a heated towel rack. Given the tranquility and great location near Grand Central, this would be a fantastic business hotel. And, given that location, their prices are decent. Now for the less good. It seems the hotel is taking COVID 19 so seriously that they have made some odd decisions. When I arrived, the hotel was completely silent. It turns out that their bar and restaurant are still closed for COVID 19 reasons, which isn’t entirely clear on their website. They are not even offering room service in the evenings (though you can order extremely expensive breakfast). They provide an electric kettle in the room but, when I looked around for tea or coffee, there was none in the room. I asked at the front desk a they said they had taken the tea and instant coffee out of the rooms so people didn’t touch them. I had also realized I didn’t receive wifi information and, when I asked, they told me they charge for wifi. I hadn’t event considered that as a possibility in 2022! To be fair, when I protested, they offered to waive the $10 per day fee. The front desk person I spoke to was polite but it was clear that she thought my reactions were overwrought. A mixed bag!

Stayed for 4 nights and marvelled at how tranquil it was for a midtown spot. I couldn't hear any traffic. Excellent location within walking distance to subway lines and Grand Central. Bathroom came with a tub/shower combo and heated toilet and Toto washlet. An electric water kettle is also provided in the room. The room was spotless and well maintained, and I loved the 90s Japanese hotel vibe. Service was top notch. I didn't try anything from the room service menu, but there's a bunch of nice breakfast places and other restaurants in the area. I'm definitely looking forward to the reopening of the restaurant and jazz bar. Would recommend this place for families, older people, and visitors for whom having an absolutely quiet room is a priority.

Good value for the location. Rooms are quiet; you don’t get interruptions from inside or outside.

Furniture and rooms are slightly dated, but everything felt very clean and well cared for. Bed was comfortable but the pillows were not good for me. I will definitely ask for more if I return on another trip.

The room was actually larger than I expected, and was just enough for our needs.

The staff were all kind and helpful, and accommodated us for our later train ride home.

This hotel bills itself as “Japanese,” but the restaurant has been closed for a long time and the only thing about the room that was Japanese was the Toto washlet installed on top of the toilet and the 20 year old Panasonic television. The staff was nice, and they did offer umbrella’s on a rainy day, but our room at about $450/night was nowhere near what I would consider a good value. Overall, the hotel is tired and the room though clean is not especially comfortable. On the plus side, the location is great and, by current horrendous standards, the room was perhaps one of the better values in the market.

Kitano is only few blocks away from Grand Central, which probably comes handy for domestic travellers.
There’s a bit funny feeling to the hotel, especially beginning of the week it felt deserted, feeling which was enforced by the fact the hotel doesn’t have operating breakfast room, nor restaurant. Breakfast can be ordered to room though for 25usd/each plus taxes plus 20% tip, we opted to other breakfast arrangements.
Room was tidy, cleaning worked well. Four star american standard though isnt as high as in Nordic countries, ie slightly dated feeling, but not too much. Service was polite as would be expected. Warm water works, air con as well, free (WELL functioning wifi, surprise). Fairly slim double beds. Quiet room. Look out when u flush, sounds like explotion, works well though

Lovely hotel, clean, staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed November / December and had a wonderful stay. Room was big with a perfect view of Empire state Building form our window. Close to everything, 3 minutes from Grand Central Station, breakfast is substantial and well worth having it delivered to the room. No restaurants open, roof top bar which we didn't visit but will next time. Plenty of restaurants around to try. Highly recommend for a short or long stay, well with the extra cost. We stayed 20 nights and are very thankful for the "quiet" in this area.

We loved this hotel. I grew up in Japantown in San Francisco and this hotel reminded me of the warmth and generosity of the Japanese culture. The hotel is quiet but there is always someone available if you need anything. The attendant taking care of our room was so sweet and attentive. The hotel is located in a lovely neighborhood in Murray Park near consulates and Grand Central Station. You can walk to Macy’s in 10 minutes and Time Square in 15 minutes. The rooms are very large by NY standards with Washlet bidets and towel warmers. There are also June Jacobs amenities, slippers and robes. Overall fantastic hotel.

After 40+ years of global travels and staying in some of the finest hotels in the world, I have finally found a hotel which truly deserves the often-hyped but rarely deserved “home away from home” description—in NYC of all places! From the simple but tasteful decor to the clean rooms and highly functional amenities, everything at the Kitano New York is perfect. Equally impressive are the friendliness and welcoming staff that one meets—from the front desk staff to the housekeepers, room service, bell captains, doorman and security, everyone just made my wife and me feel so incredibly comfortable and safe. Much of this, I am sure, is due to the tremendous management and team-building skills and experiences of the hotel general manager, Zack Z, and his wonderful customer service manager, Mahu O. The hotel is located in a safe, clean and convenient part of Park Avenue, within easy walking distances to grand central, iconic NYC spots, and literally dozens of fine dining as well as casual eating places. Despite the fact that this is NYC city, the hotel rooms (we stayed in two) are amongst the quietest we’ve ever come across in any big cities in the world. No doubt the Kitano will be our go-to hotel whenever we visit the Big Apple. Jeffrey C.
