Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Kitano is our type of hotel. Elegant, charming and traditional. The location is perfect, you are in the heart of NY but in a beauriful tree lined avenue. The staff overall were so kind and helpful.. Our room spacious, bed and linen excellent. Personally, we would have preferred an in room fridge or floor ice machine and non instant coffee. Paying daily for internet is so niggling. All that said...the hotel still earns 5 stars from us. Highly recommend.

What a GREAT stay!!! Spent 5 days in NYC and stayed at this fabulous hotel. The location was very convenient being a few blocks from Grand Central Station and within walking distance of Central Manhattan . Can't say enough about the hotel and the helpful staff. The Roof Top Bar had just opened and we spent a few nights having a bite ( and drinks, of course), just admiring the NY skyline. Only downside was that their restaurant was not open but we did not go hungry as there many options nearby .

We loved this hotel. I grew up in Japantown in San Francisco and this hotel reminded me of the warmth and generosity of the Japanese culture. The hotel is quiet but there is always someone available if you need anything. The attendant taking care of our room was so sweet and attentive. The hotel is located in a lovely neighborhood in Murray Park near consulates and Grand Central Station. You can walk to Macy’s in 10 minutes and Time Square in 15 minutes. The rooms are very large by NY standards with Washlet bidets and towel warmers. There are also June Jacobs amenities, slippers and robes. Overall fantastic hotel.

Pro: 1:00 check out; completely quiet room at night; Con: Bed was uncomfortable; mattress needed replacement; shower took several minutes to get to comfortable temperature; toilet mechanism was broken and hot dryer ran any time sitting on it; decor seemed dated; stuffy seem in room & hallway. Would not stay here again.

What a lovely hotel!! For the price (which was lower than many other hotels nearby) we had a wonderfully comfortable bed, a very nice bathroom, and plenty of room. The amenities in the bathroom were top notch, as were the towels. So soft, and they smelled great! None of that rough, bleachy smell you can get in some hotels. The only downside, if there is one, is that while they give you a nice European electric kettle, the coffee that comes with it is instant. While that's not terrible, and I know Nescafe is well loved, it would have been nice to have been able to a french press or pour over coffee each morning. As well, there is no microwave in the rooms - so if you bring back leftovers, plan on eating them a bit on the cool side. ;) The staff here was lovely, very accomodating - the location was so close to everything & on a lovely street. We'll definitely be back!

Upon arriving at this hotel we found out that the bar and restaurant were both closed for the duration of our stay. Room service was also on limited hours which added to our frustration. Items from our mini bar were never replenished despite asking reception twice. On the plus side, location was good and room was quiet although we suspect hardly anyone was staying at this hotel due to lack of facilities!

I stayed in this hotel several times in the past, but unfortunately it has not fully recovered after COVID time. The restaurant was still shut down and for breakfast the guests needed to call room service that provided breakfast with 20 -30 minutes delay - not the best if you are planning business meetings in town.

Nice facility, and a great room especially for NY standards. The location is conveniently close to Grand Central station However, the hotel charging for wifi in the room as an additional fee is really petty. Not too keen to repeat.

After 40+ years of global travels and staying in some of the finest hotels in the world, I have finally found a hotel which truly deserves the often-hyped but rarely deserved “home away from home” description—in NYC of all places! From the simple but tasteful decor to the clean rooms and highly functional amenities, everything at the Kitano New York is perfect. Equally impressive are the friendliness and welcoming staff that one meets—from the front desk staff to the housekeepers, room service, bell captains, doorman and security, everyone just made my wife and me feel so incredibly comfortable and safe. Much of this, I am sure, is due to the tremendous management and team-building skills and experiences of the hotel general manager, Zack Z, and his wonderful customer service manager, Mahu O. The hotel is located in a safe, clean and convenient part of Park Avenue, within easy walking distances to grand central, iconic NYC spots, and literally dozens of fine dining as well as casual eating places. Despite the fact that this is NYC city, the hotel rooms (we stayed in two) are amongst the quietest we’ve ever come across in any big cities in the world. No doubt the Kitano will be our go-to hotel whenever we visit the Big Apple. Jeffrey C.
