I live a few doors down from the Excelsior so my family members often stay in this hotel. The rooms are ok (although verging on shabby), but there is no coffee maker which is bizarre. Much is the staff is aloof and unfriendly, which is odd because the hotel certainly doesn't warrant that sort of attitude from its staff. Then...

Old-style elegance without 5th Avenue fuss. Excellent location on 81st and Columbus Ave, near C subway stop at 81st and Museum of Natural History. Excellent restaurants in every direction, though the one in the hotel is a bit pretentious. No coffee-maker in the room and only a very expensive breakfast, but pastry shops and Gristedi's (spelling?) groceries are nearby.

The front desk staff was rude and the accommodations were sub-par. In addition to dangerous electrical problems in the room, the toilet made a high-pitched squeal each time we flushed, the shower drained very slowly. Plus there is no parking at the hotel. Not worth the money.

My husband and I stayed at the Excelsior for a long weekend. The hotel staff was accommodating, super friendly and really enjoyed caring for their guest. The young man who checked us in was terrific helping us with a small problem and the door man found us parking right out front. Our room was clean and well stocked with everything...

After experiencing staying in Times Square for the first leg of our New York and beyond trip, we arranged to stay here for 3 nights prior to flying back to Australia. The location is great and is a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of Times Square. Being located adjacent to Central Park and the Museum of Natural History...

Stayed there in December 2016. Sweet hotel. No interaction from staff, although we arrived at about 10pm after a long journey from London there was no warm welcome from the man on the desk, not even to ask about our journey. There was a problem with our room which he promptly blamed on the travel agent and subsequently the room...

Nice clean hotel with great front desk staff- very helpful and accommodating. Bar is comfortable and food looked very good although I didn't eat in the restaurant. Great location close to shopping, museums and cafes. Highly recommend a stay at The Excelsior

City break prior to a Caribbean cruise, The hotel is a little dated, but comfortable and spacious. Did find the staff a little stand offish. Good central location, Amsterdam Avenue, a few minutes walk, offers excellent choice or eateries. Brilliant weekend brunch though, at hotel's own "Calle Ocho" , just take care with limitless, complimentary sangria!

On both visits to New York with my family we have stayed here and I love it! The hotel is lovely the reception staff are always welcoming and friendly. The rooms are well kept and cosy. Although it's a slight walk in to the centre its right next to central park and has some lovely restaurants near by. We love...
