Blink and you'll miss it, but the Jazz Columbus Circle is right there near 56th and 8th, between the LenWich and Wendy's. There's no branding or signage on the door or even the front desk but, trust me, it's there and you're at the right place. Pack a towel. New health measures mean they don't provide those anymore. They make coffee in the mornings, but the equipment isn't maintained well, and there's always a supply of bagels, but there's no way to know how long those have been there. If you bring home a doggy bag from your dinner out, you can store it in the communal fridge but there's no way to heat your leftovers back up as the microwave is out of order. Need a glass of water in the middle of the night? The fridge dispenses filtered water. You'll just be waiting a while, though, as it dispenses it at an extremely slow trickle. An extremely slow trickle was also how the sink worked in my dorm's bathroom. More water leaked onto the floor than flowed into the sink for the simple task of washing my hands. At least there were no issues with the shower. As for the toilet, the handle was loose and needed to be pulled carefully and securely each time. In the bedroom, you're provided a place for your head, a couple hooks for your things and a small locker. Bring a lock, unless you didn't pack any valuables and believe wholeheartedly in the honor system. It's winter and the AC is still in the window, but the draft won't affect you as the heat works exceptionally well. What doesn't work well is the hostel's WiFi. The city's is faster and easier to connect to. At the end of the day, it's an inexpensive stay at a youth hostel a couple blocks from Columbus Circle proper. You get what you pay for.…
Hostel was clean and so central, a great place to stay when in the city for a few days. Only thing was that it isn’t a very social hostel, not many younger backpackers or social spaces. Front desk staff were super helpful and there is a storage room for bags on check out day.
Stayed here as a group of 3 females and I have to say I felt a little unsafe. The premesis was really run down and kind of dirty from the outset. The location was amazing but that was all. We needed no keycards or ID's when entering the building and anyone could have walked in. The beds were fine, but the balcony was very dirty along with the bathroom (bugs in the shower), and we had to ask for towels. On numerous occasions various staff members walked into our room without even knocking, to "empty the bins" or drop us toilet paper etc. A couple hours after we had checked out, we went back to collect our bags from the shared space where they were locked away. We were given the Key to go up and collect them ourselves, in which case we could have taken anything from any of the other bags that were in there. On arrival I was told only the staff had access to this room. Overall felt uneasy staying here and despite the great price and location there were so many red flags.…
I have stayed in many hostels around the world including Europe and Asia and this is the worst one I’ve been to. The beds themselves were very basic which is expected in hostels but on arrival the balcony was filthy and full of junk and clearly never gets cleaned. Bugs in the shower and front door would open by literally pressing a finger up against the door which I complained about especially after someone stole a brand new bottle of aftershave from my toiletries bag and the staff were unhelpful and did nothing but say there’s lockers in the room so we are not responsible for anything that goes missing. I wasn’t expecting much but a front door that anyone has access to with almost no force needed for entry? I can’t be the only person who sees something wrong with this , it’s a major security breach that should have been addressed or at least let me move to another room.…
I stayed here for approx six nights over the Christmas holidays. I had a really good stay the location is unbelievable you have Central Park literally on you’re door step,as well as excellent transport links close by to get around the city. You’re also relatively close to Times Square and the Rockefeller Centre. The rooms are fairly spacious, clean and the showers were good, the prices were reasonable and the Internet was also brilliant. The staff were very helpful and took an interest in you’re background, life etc. I would absolutely stay here again in fact I’m hoping to book a flight shortly for later on in the year to NYC.
Very good location this hotel. Central in New York. Little walk lots of subway line near. Stuff friendly, place is clean, room is warm (winter), If you visit new york is a best choice. Hard to found, between the McDonald's abd Wendy's small door. Time Square 12 minutes walk, central park 4 corner. Restaurant everywhere. Subway all way. Kitchen small breakfast not to big, but free. Bathroom clean. Room is warm and comfortable. If you need a plug sometime need a fight. The elevator just go down 2. Floor. Sometimes not working a card.
I stayed at Jazz on Columbus Circle Hostel for 3 nights. The location is very convenient as it is located just a 2 mins walk from the Columbus Circle Station and Central Park. I reached the hostel at around 10am. There was nobody at the check in counter. The check in was at 3 but I was expecting somebody to be there as I had to drop my bags at their storage room. I had to wait an hour until a guest told me that there wasn’t anybody at check in since the morning and directed me towards the baggage storage area. The same guest was searching for a towel since a long time apparently. I came back at 3 to do the check in. The process was fast. I checked into my room but then realised I had to get my bags from the storage area. So I went back to the storage area and it was locked. I went downstairs to tell the lady to open it up. She was not there at the check in area. I had to wait another 15 mins for her to come downstairs. After I got my bags, I needed to do laundry. I needed coins for the laundry. So I again went to the check in area to see that the lady was not there. I waited another 20 mins. Once she came she told me that she does not have any coins left and that I should get the change from the nearby McDonald’s. Sigh!! The rooms were clean and spacious and the toilets were also very well kept. I decided to take a shower. Then I realised that the shower head had broken and the water was coming out of the attached pipe. Since I had already entered the shower I couldn’t do anything. I had to shower with the shower head upside down in order to get the proper pressure from the attached pipe. The first night there was only one other lady in the dorm; until at 1am a guy came in drunk. He slept straightaway. So far so good. So after sometime he starts screaming in his sleep for reasons known to him only and this continued till the morning until he left. In between this he peed near his bed as well. One of the worst nights ever spent in a hostel dorm for me. The next two days went pretty well. I complained about the guy and the management apparently didn’t let him stay again there. So that was good. …
This place is too good to be true. I've stayed in so many hostels in my life but this is hands down the best. 1st of all, location! In the middle of everything you wanna see and so many subway stations at wLking distance. 2ndly, the hostel is spic and span, cleaned everyday, sturdy beds, attached rooms... It was so remarkable. I am not sure about the breakfast as i always went out to try NYC food recommendations but this place is 10/10 even if they dis not have breakfast.
Walking distance is perfect from everywhere! 24h reception, staff is really nice. Only thing is breakfast... That is definitely not what I call a breakfast : bread rolls and jam for only an hour! A fridge would be nice. Ensuite bathroom is great. I would definitely go back.
Stayed at this hostel fora night as I got to NYC a day earlier. I got in early and was made to wait until 3pm to check in which is normal. My query was I specifically asked if I could be notified if I could check in earlier if a room became available. Two other groups who came after me were let in and I had to go ask reception a 3rd time to see if I could check in now after 3pm. Hostel is not very clean and quite cramped. Been to many hostels and this was an average one. Breakfast area is quite small and there isn't much space to relax such as a lounge space. Hostel can work on improving communication and cleanliness.
