My husband and I spent the weekend in NYC. The Empire Hotel is located in close proximity to the places we wanted to visit. The hotel is quite lovely and very comfortable. The staff were terrific -- friendly, professional and helpful -- the folks who checked us in and out, the folks at the outside doors who greeted us as we came in and went out. We had trouble accessing the digital service on our TV -- the front desk sent an engineer who quickly diagnosed that the TV needed to be replaced. When we came back from dinner, it was done. We will stay at the Empire Hotel again. We highly recommend it.
I live on the UWS and needed a place to stay while family was visiting and occupying my apartment. My stay was 6 nights and came out to a very reasonable rate for the location. The hotel is very quiet and pleasant. Staff is super friendly, and happy to help. I have a service dog, and she was welcomed warmly when we checked in. This is always a big plus for me when I stay in a hotel. Water bottles available at the front desk, and an electric kettle was brought up to my room by housekeeping when I requested it. Clean and functional room with a great shower. Highly recommend The Empire Hotel for a nice stay in the heart of Lincoln Square!
My teen and I stayed here Jan 2023. Empire's greatest asset is the location. It was about a block to Central Park and you're right across the street from Lincoln Square. Easy 25 minute walk to Times Square, 5mins to Columbus Circle shopping. Many great restaurants in walking distance. The rooms are small, as expected with NYC, but perfectly nice. Bathrooms have all the amenities you could need but lacking counter space. Closet is tiny! For two of us it was fine but could get uncomfortable with any more than that. Much thanks to the doormen for help with directions and restaurant recommendations!
We stayed at the Empire Hotel for our daughter's first trip to NYC. The location was perfect . It's a very close walk to Central Park, the Museum of Natural History, Lincoln Center, lots of great restaurants and shopping. We also enjoyed being very close to two subway stations which allowed us to easily explore the rest of Manhattan. The staff was very polite and accommodating. Will definitely be back!
Just back from another stay at the Empire. This time, we had a Junior Suite. It was very spacious with nice views. We've been staying at the Empire for several years now and highly recommend it. The location is perfect — across from Lincoln Center. There is also a TKTS booth just steps away to get theater tickets. Also, a goof selection of restaurants and Central Park is just a block away.
Really a fantastic boutique hotel perfectly located across from Lincoln Center and half way between Midtown and Upper West Side. Everything is within walking distance or short bus ride on Broadway, Columbus or Central Park South. Next to Central Park as well. Staff was competent, responsive and friendly. Rooms are a little small but that is true of most Boutique hotels. Paying a little extra for the view is worth it as it opens up the feel of the room. It has a magnificent roof top restaurant bar with spectacular views and a pool. No complaints. I have been staying there for years and it has never let me down.
The price is right, location is perfect. We read the less favorable reviews and we had a great time. Clean room, hot shower, comfy beds, and quiet. It’s a basic hotel in a very expensive city. If it had all the bells and whistles, it would cost more for the consumer - and right now it’s affordable. So: please don’t renovate, just keep it clean. Our room could have used more lighting but beyond that…you aren’t in NYC to be at your hotel. The whole point is to be elsewhere… Nice staff, and easy check-in/check-out.
The location is terrific, but I don’t think I’d ever stay here again. The public spaces in the lobby were nicely done, but as as you stepped into the elevator, you could begin to see the wear. The carpets in the elevators and hallways were often dirty and tired looking. As soon as we left the elevator, the smell of marijuana was beyond strong. This was the case every time we came and went for 5 days. Ridiculous and made the hotel seem super trashy and low budget. The room was very small and showing its age. In NYC sometimes hotel rooms are small, but with thoughtful touches for storage/maximizing space. Not here. There weren’t any places to really hang clothes because the fridge was in the closet. A tired looking chair was randomly placed. The 2 drawers on the bedside table wouldn’t close and we kept bumping into them. Most of the furniture was scratched and shabby. The whole ambiance was tired and worn looking. While it might have been clean, I really didn’t want to walk in the room without slippers or socks. The bathroom was terrible. Paint was peeling and you could see dirt in the corners when the door was closed. It made us want to keep the door open since it was so yucky to see the back of the door. Towels would be taken and not replaced consistently. The shelf in the bathroom was worn and nicked, which made me worried it wasn’t clean. Front desk personnel were pleasant and promptly sent up ice when we requested it. At the end of the day, it was a place to sleep. In a city with LOTS of hotel options, I’ll look elsewhere in the future.…
This was my second stay at the Empire Hotel. The Empire is an older hotel but is very well maintained. Lincoln Center across the street, subway a few steps away, Starbucks and PJ Clarks next door! There is a great rooftop bar, also! Very friendly and helpful staff and top-notch housekeeping. Will definitely be back for my next visit to NYC.
Absolutely awful experience. Reception staff rude and unwelcoming from the moment we entered. We had sent an email previous to our stay with some requests which had been ignored completely and the lady at reception smiled when I asked if it was received. We were so excited for our stay here but the coldness from the moment we entered ruined it. Room we were given had no light fixture at all and was on complete darkness. Only a standing lamp present for some light. Staff offered an additional lamp but simply not good enough! Room damp smelling and old. Random fridge in the middle of the room and no space for suitcase. Asked if we could switch rooms but apparently hotel was completely full. Ended up having to get a full refund and finding another hotel on NYC last minute. Shocking customer service.…
