We stayed here for 6 nights , it is overall a decent place to stay however with some tweaks it could be great . The location for us was good , only 10 minutes to union square, not far from the flat iron building and 25 minutes to the empire state building . Metro and bus stations are also close by . The communal kitchen is an added bonus and open all day which means you can make dinner and help yourself to the facilities in there which was really useful . There is access to a PC and lots of games in a separate communal area away from the kitchen . Breakfast was fine for us , Dunkin’ doughnuts each day, fruit, cereal and options of coffee and tea . The room itself was basic and quite small . The TV had a range of channels but some did not tune correctly and were constantly getting scrambled .The air conditioner was extremely noisy and did keep me up most nights ,I think a real investment in getting up to date and less noisy air conditioners would be useful . The beds were fine however the pillows were hard which made sleeping on them difficult . The bathroom on the 3rd floor was perfect for us however a suggestion would be for the showers to be cleaned more regularly . These are of course tiny gripes for what was overall a good stay and we would visit again.…
I was here back in 2019 and it was really an awesome place to stay, so we decided to go back with one friend this time in 2021 and it was even better. The place is super cool and has the best possible location in NY with a great price. Amdre (the host) was so kind, polite and helpful. The rooms are great, and the very best part is the breakfast and coffee you can take :D! We also met a girl called Courtney that was helping Amdre to make some new changes to this place. We will for sure go back to this place every time we visit New York. If you get to read this, we miss you Amdre and Courtney, the guys from Argentina!
The American Dream Hostel is a very nice and enjoyable hostel. It's in a safe and great location, which is close to a lot of the New York sights and only a short walk to the nearest subway station. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, however you could hear a lot of the New York traffic, so it may be an issue if you are a light sleeper. The breakfast was very good (must try the waffles). The staff are very nice and are helpful if you need any information about the hostel and the city. Overall, I was very impressed with my stay. I will definitely be staying here again when I return to New York.
The place is in a good part of New York which makes walking to tourist sights easy and very fast. I think the room was cheap for New York and I could see why it was very simple and basic but I thought it was clean and tidy so no complaints. It was not a hostel however it was more bed and breakfast so I did not meet any other travellers there.
Unfortunately our stay was not so good. We expected a lot more after reading all the positive feedback. The room: - had a window, but no light coming in - beds are really hard, shaky and uncomfortable (+ the sheets were dirty and in both bed sheets had holes in them!) - the room had a terrible, loud noise every half an hour or so coming from the pipes (like someone was banging on them with a baseball bat) Staff: Unfortunately the staff was more interested in playing with their phones or watching tv, not so friendly and helpful... Never said hello when you walked by. Toilets+showers: The floors had only one shower per floor + 2 restrooms. Small and not so clean... I would not recommend staying here, not longer than one night... if you really have to. The only good thing was the breakfast (fresh bagels, berries etc) and the location close to 53st subway station. We were happy to stay our last night in New York in another hotel!…
We took an impromptu trip to NYC at christmas, so we weren't expecting to get somewhere fancy on our budget. This place was fine. Room was clean, had everything we needed. I would have given this five stars, except for a few things that made life difficult. The heating was on maximum all the time, no way ti control it in the room, was far too warm in the room and really noisy, clanging and clunking all night. At times we had both the air con and heating on to fix the temperature! Luckily we are from london, so we can sleep through most noises, but at times it got silly. Also, a few things they could have paid more attention to, like not using towels with holes in and checking soap levels in the bathrooms more often. Also, breakfast was useless. Everybody tried to go at the same time, only 6 seats. Not bad overall, but still could improve.…
Basic, clean hostel in Manhattan. Very good for the price. Staff was very friendly. The room was very small, but that’s how it usually is in a hostel. The hostel itself was quiet, but the traffic noise from outside was loud at times.
I couldn’t stay as I felt unsafe here. And the difficulty with narrow stairs and access was unacceptable. I was refunded but as the hostel had my credit card for about two hours while I found another place to stay unfortunately someone used it illegally for a large amount of money. I was disappointed S the manager seemed a caring person. My fault obviously but it was a mistake I made that was then used opportunistically.
Fantastic accommodations for the price and great location! Friendly staff and private rooms are available. Comfortable beds and pillows. And they do provide towels and a delicious and fantastic breakfast which helps you save some money while staying in NYC. There is a full kitchen available to use and a refrigerator so you can save and reheat leftovers from eating out, or make a meal yourself if you wanted to (there are dishes and all of that available). The common area are nice and clean, and the area where this is located felt very accessible and safe. I really enjoyed the flatiron district and this is very close to the flatiron building and Madison square park which was beautiful. Citi bikes and subway was also a short walk away and there was a CVS right around the corner in case you forgot anything for your stay. I would definitely stay here again!…
When you are looking for reasonably priced accommodation in Manhattan you won't have too many options! This hostel has a great location near many bus and subway lines, and walking distance to some of the midtown sights. It's on a relatively quiet street considering you're in the middle of a busy city. I felt perfectly safe as a solo female walking around the area late at night. The room is basic - I would say not as nice looking as the photos on the website make it seem - and the mattress really needed replacing. However - both my room and the shared facilities seemed clean, it had aircon, and I never had to wait for the shared shower / toilet. Breakfast is included which is nice - fruit / bagels / various muffins or cakes and donuts / waffles. There is a fridge and some shared kitchen facilities for basic cooking. I have marked this down slightly as I really felt the staff could have been a bit friendlier - I rarely got greeted when I came in or out, and despite being there for a week no one asked me how my stay was. When I said hello to one of the ladies preparing breakfast, I barely got a response, and she then proceeded to say the kitchen was too small as a couple of us were stood up at the table putting food on our plates when she was trying to get by. It's worth mentioning also that this isn't a party hostel or a particularly social hostel - I was a solo traveller but didn't meet any one else to go out with, which was fine as I wasn't really looking for that. Overall I would stay again - the location and clean facilities sold it to me.…
