I got the hotel because of the price. The location is not bad, I have to say that if you are not healthy enough to climb stairs along with your luggage I would not recommend this place for you. The rooms are not that big but that is NYC standards unless you want to pay more of course. The room...

I've stayed at the St. Marks on every trip to New York for years now. It is hard to find a reasonable place in the city. The location, price, and decency of the staff and rooms made it worthwhile. But the price has gone up and the cleanliness has gone down. I'll probably be looking for a new spot.

This was a great find.First, note that this hotel is not for everyone. The rooms are TINY and SPARSE. The noise outside can be loud. There are stairs, and no elevator. They only take CASH or TRAVELERS CHECKS. There's no room service. But if you're looking for a clean, secure place to drop your bag and immediately head out into...

The food is average, the prices are high, the ambience is excellent, people watching is extraordinary, the amount of botox and filler to maintain the youth of the older people is quite funny! I would go back again, even if only to see the pretentious at their best!

This hotel is really strange- partially I loved it because it is a very old fashioned place right in a great part of NYC that I love. Quirky. Unique. Old. Lots of character. However at the same time I know there are many people who would not step foot in this hotel. There is no elevator - only very steep...

Was a good stay. Clean, good service basic hotel at a good price. Very convenient to NYU and close to restaurants, bars and other spots. Only drawback has no elevator and my room was on the 3rd floor. Very basic but beds were comfortable, rooms were clean, and front desk was attentive.

Great value considering price, location and amenities. If you're looking for a quiet spot to do more than sleep after you're done, not the best choice. This place is clean and right in the heart of arguably the best action in NYC. Would not hesitate to stay there again...looking forward to my next visit.

I recently stayed at St. Mark's Hotel for a 2-day visit to New York City. We booked online but this hotel only accepts cash for reservations, so we paid when we arrived. That caveat was perfectly acceptable to me, given the reasonable price and value. The rooms were small and simple, but clean. You will not find a big, fluffy...

Pros: right in the heart of the East Village, close to subway, restaurants and bars steps away, good wi-fi, reasonably priced for a NYC hotel. Cons: tiny room, cash only, no elevator (if you have trouble with stairs, do not book here). Next time I come to NY I would try to book elsewhere.

I've stayed here twice, it's a no frills, clean, perfectly located hidden gem. There is nothing fancy here... The showers are tiny, there is no elevator so lots of stairs but the rooms are ideal if you just want somewhere to sleep. Both times I've been here I've absolutely loved how close everything is, walking distance to the whole lower...

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
