While my first stay here (October 2015) was smooth, my recent stay was very disappointing. At check-in the credit card payment did not go through after 3/4 attempts. Surprisingly, the front office staff used utterly unpleasant language and tone of voice blaming me for the unsuccessful payment. I have never seen this treatment in any place I have stayed, from...

I was looking for a cheap place to stay and settled on the Chelsea International Hostel for $72 a night for a solo room, booked through hostelworld.com. I arrived around noon and check in time was 3pm, they won't assign rooms early so you can either sit around and wait or drop your bags in a locker in the basement($5)....

My sister and I travelled to NY from Australia in June. We were on the tightest of budgets and travelling in peak season, we were running out of options as we wanted to stay for close to 1 week. My friend suggested this hostel and we found it to be a great fit for us. We barely spent any time...

My friend and I got a private room (double with two twin beds). We arrived and were able to store our things in lockers until we could check in. The hostel was lacking in "ambience," but I'm not sure what else you would expect with a hostel in the middle of NYC. The room was plenty big for the two...

I stayed at this hostel from October 27 to November 1st. My first impression when I walked in was just drained. This hostel has many stairs, and carrying a suitcase up them is hell. But whatever. Since I went with a big group from university we didn't have a choice of rooms. My sister and I shared a room, two...

Solo female traveller stayed 1 night in July 2016 ...arrived after 8pm welcomed by friendly staff members - 2 gents and had a single room building next door to reception...interesting building . ..enjoyed an alfresco meal in quiet courtyard..kitchen facilities locked down by then...but enough local eateries around... not aestethically pleasing but most importantly felt safe and no better location...

I would never recommend staying at this hostel. If it wasn't for the amazing people I bonded with here, I probably would have left earlier. The reception desk is behind a glass screen and my check in was basically "pay and here's your key". It was very unfriendly. There is no wifi in your rooms unless you are situated close...

Ensuite room with 2 single beds was tiny. Only furniture was a chair. Locker enough to store valuables only. Floor was on a slope which meant I had to wedge supports under 2 bed posts so I didn't feel like I was falling out of bed all night. Basic breakfast. Location fine. Budget travellers might enjoy but I found it...

Close to a party quarter, easy reach of subway, nice breakfast in the morning, clean and nice rooms with bathroom, very good kitchen. We changed from a terrible hostel to Chelsea Int. and it was the perfect decision. If I went to NYC again, I would stay here.

Have stayed here a few times. Very near Greenwich village. Most of downtown is very walkable from here. Very safety concious hostel and staff. [police station is within hundred metres/yards] Not very far from Madison Square Garden
