If you are planning to stay in this hostel, RUN. If you already paid for your stay, I'll pray for you. This is the worst place I have ever stayed in my life, and I have camped in the middle of the desert. The photos of the rooms couldn't be further from the truth, whoever took them deserves an raise. When we checked-in there were no towels left, so after taking a shower I had to dry myself with a sweatshirt. No one ever even deigned to knock on our door to clean our room. The bathrooms were so disgusting that there were bugs walking in the hallway where you entered them. When we complained they assured us that they cleaned the bathrooms every day, I don't know which bathrooms of which buildings they were referring to, because the bathrooms were getting more and more disgusting each day. The garbage reached such a point that my sister plucked up the courage to grab a bag from the storage room and took out all the toilet paper with poop and tampons that were there. Only 2 out of the 5 taps of the restroom worked, the soap dispenser was always empty. The shower room smelled disgusting, to the point that I seriously considered showering with a mask on. After showering we felt more dirty than clean. Also, to go to the bathroom we had to go down a floor, because on our floor there was no bathroom for women. Of the 11 nights we planned to stay, we stayed four. We picked up our stuff and ran for our lives. At reception there was a sign that said if you cancel 24 hours in advance they will give you a refund. We are still waiting for a refund of the 6 nights that we are entitled to. We have sent messages through the website and to the email of the hostels for two weeks now and we have not received any response. I wouldn't recommend this hostel to my worst enemy, which is ironic, because my worst enemy is jazz on the park. And what kind of hostel doesn't have elevators? This had to have been the first red flag to get us out of there on day one.…
I knew this place was a shole, but I wasn't expecting this. I've been to sholes like this but I never felt unsafe. This place is UNSAFE and DIRTY. It is unsafe because the shower room has no lock in the door. The main entrance is not locked. Anyone can get in. Some receptionists don't even look at you when you get into the hotel. If you are travelling alone (specially if you're a woman, AVOID this place). The atmosphere is far from comfy or friendly. I felt very very unsafe. It is dirty and there are cockroaches and rats. I was taking a shower and I saw a cockroach next to me. Not funny at all. The shared toilets are infested with those plus always dirty. I think one of the biggest problems is that they always leave the windows of the corridor wide open and they placed a trash bin next to it (what do they have in their brains???). Furthermore, the whole accommodation looks like a jail. The only good part is that is well located. Never again.…
Jazz is my life. I operate a world-renowned jazz history website, and I have travelled extensively to write about this music. I thought it would be a good gesture to stay in a hostel named for my favorite music. Bad idea. In fact, I think jazz should sue for libel! When I made my reservation, I was supposed to cover a nightclub appearance by a well-known jazz artist. Unfortunately, the club was unwilling to provide press tickets. I called the hostel to cancel or reschedule my reservation, and they refused to do either. They had collected all of my money upfront and had no intention of returning it! I made several attempts to negotiate with the "customer service agents" until I finally decided to fulfill the commitment and then be done with it. When I arrived, things got worse. For the first and ONLY time in my history of staying in hostels, I was told the facility does not provide bath towels. After I raised a fuss, the clerk finally gave me one...acting like he was doing me a favor. The bed had one fitted sheet and a flat sheet folded up on the bed. I didn't even bother to make the bed. I came back to the hostel late in the evening to discover that none of the lights worked in my room. I waited for nearly half an hour to get the clerk to come up to my room and fix the problem. He fumbled around and found one solution, but never figured out how to get any of the other bulbs to light. The coup de grace came the following morning. After a rather restless night, there was no hot water for the private shower I paid for! I couldn't get out of there fast enough! NEVER AGAIN!!!…
If your reading this review, spend that tiny bit extra on a better room somewhere else. It may be a cheap option but if a prison cell feels homely for you then go ahead. The room was dirty, it was freezing cold, the only offer a thin sheet to cover you in the middle of winter and I woke up to a cockroach crawling up the wall next to my bed. We where here for work and didn’t want to ball out on a room but had to leave to stay elsewhere for a night, we couldn’t sleep as the doors baby extremely loud and you can hear the conversation of people in the next room. The cleaning ladies where extremely loud in the day making it impossible to get sleep night or day. Their website says free linen and towels but you have to pay 5$ for a crispy old dry towel, I could add more to this review but I think you get the point. The staff where friendly, it’s not their fault this place is a s@t hole . I’ve stayed in some bad hostals in my time and this was one of the worst.…
Due to the worldwide crisis, I had of to cancel my booking. No understanding or flexibility at all! I've been charged anyway! On the paper, it looked very interesting: location, price...To sum up: to avoid!
Dirty place!!! Super rude staff, worst check in EVER .... stupid soap to clean hands was never there... staff attitude was the worst I ever experienced .... avoid. Only location was ok ... invest more money and book something different
I HIGHLY regret booking this hostel. Please, just don´t book this one. just don´t! There are plenty of better options nearby. The receptionist didn´t even know that there was a better one very close to them (Hi Hostel at Amsterdam Street) with similar price, even cheaper depending on the time of the year. They charge you USD5.00 PER BAG if you need to store your bags after checkout!!! So you have to count this cost as well. (At least this Jazz on the park hostel could have written on their website with big and bold letters) 'Jazz on the park' hostel doesn´t even have cutlery and cups to use (any AT ALL, not even plastic ones, for the lazy and not eco-friendly hostels...). I had to walk on the street at night looking for... a spoon. I ´ve been to a bunch of other hostels. This is by far, DEFINITELY, the worst of all. It is just mean, the owners should visit the other options nearby to realize how unfair they are with their own price compared to other hostels. Worst cost-benefit. Owners of this hostel: you almost sounded mean by being so lazy in so many issues. Please, improve your place ASAP. It sounded as if we were in Cuba with low competition from other hostels/hotels, not in New York, where you have plenty of options.…
Hello. Negative points... 1. The rooms can be more cleaner. 2. The restrooms also need to be more clean. 3. Bathrooms have curtains which are not at all sufficient. They need proper doors. 4. No microwave. There should at least be a microwave in the common area. 5. Noise early morning at 6:20 am. Verbal fight in the room next doors. Staff didn't take any action. Positive points..... 1. Location is good. Very close to Central Park West. 2. Lockers are in the room which makes it convenient to get to your stuff when needed. 3. Good coffee shops, restaurants and bars nearby. A few tips to fellow travelers.... 1. Don't expect microwave. 2. Get your soap and shampoo. They don't offer any. 3. Also carry earplugs. Can get noisy anytime and your precious sleep is bound to be disturbed. Happy travels. A few tips to travellers....…
Never stay here. If your only choices are to sleep here or a bench in the park in a blizzard, choose the park bench. I have stayed in over 100 hostels worldwide, and this is by far the worst. The self-catering facilities, coffee bar and free breakfast advertised on their website do not exist. My dorm was not cleaned the entire week I was there, nor were the showers and toilet. The stairwell and common areas were also absolutely filthy throughout my stay. The staff are rude, surly, and unable to deal with even the simplest of requests. They are very good at spending time on their phones though. The key cards are also constantly failing, which wouldn't be such an issue if their reception was 24 hours as they claim on the website. Unfortunately, this is another lie, as every so often the receptionist needs to have a 30-minute break from Snapchat to go elsewhere, resulting in a long wait just to be let back into your room. This place does not deserve to be in business. I repeat, do not stay here under any circumstances.…
It's an amazing hostel, it's affordable, comfortable and located near the Central Park as well as a nearest local metro station 103 street. The staff is super friendly but sometimes the roommates are not that friendly even if you are a foreign tourist visiting the country. There is also a marketplace where one can buy groceries nearby. The hostel doesn't provide the utensils for cooking but they have all the other necessary items like stove, fridge, a vending machine and a dining room. The rooms are comfortable but the only issue I had was that there is no lift. My workout was done just by climbing the stairs. There is no attached bathroom or a toilet, those are provided separately and the bathroom is separated for both males and females. Different rooms are also provided for comfortablity for the guest. Co-ed, all females and all males rooms are available. And every other day there is always something interesting happens at the hostel.…
