Merrion Row Hotel and Public House earns rave reviews for its spotless cleanliness and prime location, perfect for Broadway enthusiasts and those eager to explore Times Square. Warmth and friendliness emanate from the staff, ensuring guests feel comfortable during their stay. While the hotel's atmosphere is noted for its charm, some find the rooms cozy yet snug. Reviewers appreciate the quiet, well-appointed rooms and the added perk of a food and beverage credit, although the occasional mention of limited space and the resort fee can be a drawback.

First and really important: the location: steps from Times Square, like the CENTER of Times Square, not (like so many do) advertising Times Square but really next to Port Authority. If you're going to a Broadway Show and don't want to fight for a cab in the rain or try to find your Uber in the ocean of Ubers, this is the place. It is a 10 minute, brightly lit, sight-filled walk from every theater (and every great pre-dining restaurant) you could want to be close to.
OR if you're dining in Midtown, going to Radio City, Rockefeller Center, shopping on Fifth Avenue? 10 minutes the other way. So the location is perfect for all things midtown east, west, and Times Square. Ideal.
Second, this place is NEW and really well-designed, so everything is up to date. The super-thick windows create an unbelievably quiet setting in the middle of everything (and I was on the third floor!) and the doors and walls are solid and safe. The bathroom fixtures are modern and sparkling, great pressure in the shower, the bed and linens are literally among of the best I've ever experienced (and I travel frequently for work). The heat/AC is quiet and easy to use (no indecipherable buttons or weird clanging). The rooms are THOUGHTFULLY structured, with a logical flow from bed to desk to closet to bathroom (and some can be expanded to accommodate families). And the appointments are great - not flashy or overdone, just really nice, understated wood and fabric tones, with lights you can actually figure out how to use! Very easy on the eyes and ears after a stimulating night on the town.
Third, you have a wide range of in-house dining options that surprise on the upside. Quick, casual pub food - a great burger or open-faced turkey sandwich in a fun, boisterous setting? Head right downstairs to Connolly's Pub (or upstairs to the incredible roof garden!). Want something a tad nicer and quieter? Maybe a shrimp risotto or fresh carbonara? The intimate and delightful restaurant on the ground floor is wonderful. All basically under the same roof and in each, a wide selection of spirits, wines and (of course) more beers on tap than you can even imagine. And in the morning, you can enjoy a full breakfast, coffee to go, or anything in between.
Lastly, and most importantly, the staff of the Merrion Row are warm, welcoming and gracious. This is a small-family-owned hotel literally in the "middle of the middle" of the highest energy zone in the world, but the team makes you feel like you're coming in from the rain to your own quiet country home. And the family has been managing hospitality in New York City for decades; they know how - and genuinely want - to make customers feel like guests.
I live outside the city and frequently stay in town after late dinners or events. Merrion Row is now my go-to place to stay in NYC. Stay there once and it will become yours as well!

We were planning to be in town for 3 nights and before booking anywhere I read hundreds of reviews on different hotels. Merrion Row definitely lived up to every positive review! It's clean, so stylish, the staff is incredibly friendly. Shout out to Emily! Everyone was so kind and helpful. Public House is the restaurant inside the hotel and the food is so good! Best crab cakes I've ever had. You can't beat the location, it's literally in the heart of midtown but once you're in your room it's nice and peaceful. I highly recommend staying here!

The Public House in the hotel: I have been here a few times for a quick lunch with friends during the work day. It's a nice location just off Times Square, the room way in the back of the lobby has a sunlit atrium that is very pleasant to sit in. The food is pretty standard but well made. My friends and I usually have some variation on the Greek or Caesar or grain salad with shrimp or chicken or salmon on top. The portions are good, the added protein is always done right, and the service is always pleasant. And the price is pretty fair. You don't come here for gourmet but it is perfect for a work lunch or if you're a tourist in Times Square and want something close, relaxing and not like all the Irish pubs surrounding it.

The staff was absolutely fantastic! Emily in the dining room is awesome - you can't not like her. They were all friendly and helpful anytime we came in and with anything we needed.
Disliked · Rooms are REALLY small and tough to stay in with 2 people. They’re not laid out well or efficiently and there’s barely any space to put your clothes. We were constantly running into and tripping over our suitcases as there's no room to put them or walk around them, etc. The hotel seemed to really skimp and try to save a nickel on amenities. There weren’t hardly any towels and only one bar of soap to cover both the sink and the shower. Seriously. Our sink had a broken cold water handle that popped off whenever you’d turn the water. We left it laying on the sink so staff would see it the next day and be able to repair. Nope, they just set it back on top so it could keep falling off. We needed a needle & thread. They got it right to us and then charged our room $3.60 with no mention of doing so. No in room coffee maker or refrigerator. Hair that wasn't ours on the bathroom wall - never a good thing. We paid $12.50/person to have continental breakfast included each day of our stay. You get a very small, limited plate (no buffet) or they'll give you a $5 credit if you order something from the regular menu. $12.50 vs. $5.00?? (go figure)

We stayed at the hotel in mid March 2020, just before NYC was locked down and just before all flights from the UK were cancelled. The city was very quiet and we had a very different, but very enjoyable time walking around Manhattan.

The hotel was everything we hoped it would be from the reviews we had read beforehand.

Every single employee was helpful, courteous, friendly and great company in a mostly unoccupied hotel.

The food was lovely and the breakfast included in the $25 daily charge was just enough to start the day.

The bedroom was spotless, quite small, but had a large bathroom.

The location was great, just three blocks from Times Sq, but on a quiet street.

The price was also reasonable for a hotel of this quality.

I tried Merrion Row for the first time. The staff were very nice. I was upgraded to a bigger king room. So that was nice. The location in midtown is convenient for getting around. However, the street the hotel is on (45th between 6th and 7th Ave.) is pretty nondescript and there is no view to speak of. Also there is a lot of construction going on around there at the moment. The facade of the hotel was covered in scaffolding as well. Obviously this is not the hotel's fault, but still. When I arrived in my room I saw that the area around the sink had not been cleaned properly as there was toothpaste in the shape of a toothbrush around the sink (yeah, first world problems I know). This put me off a bit because it indicates that the cleaning has not been very thorough. When I asked a cleaner to come up and clean the bathroom sink he just wiped it with some water and did not even use any cleaning fluid. If you are paying $450 to $500 a night you expect that the room will have been cleaned properly before you get there. Other than that, the room was clean. Bathroom was nice but water pressure was nothing to write home about. The bed was comfortable but the bed had 4 pillows which were all really thick, had no give and were uncomfortable. When I asked if they had any soft pillows for the second night they said "oh you want down pillows, of course" I am not not sure why they don't just put them in the room to begin with! This hotel is small and does not have a classic sized lobby. So if you are looking for a traditional large hotel with a big lobby this is probably not for you. The rooms are on the smaller size, even for NYC. Also the hotel is only 4 stories tall so you cannot get a high floor and escape the street noise. There is a lot of construction going on in the area at the moment and I was woken up by the sounds of generators and trucks with reverse alarms very early. Also, the walls are very very thin and you can hear everything in the next door rooms and the corridor outside the room. So when my neighbors stumbled in at 3AM I had to listen to them for the next 45 minutes. It was like I was sharing a room with them. Overall it was fine but I was not blown away, and the main problem was not getting decent sleep either night because of the thin walls. If you are traveling single or a couple it may be fine. A bit small for a family.

I needed a hotel in the Times Square area, and was pleased to find a boutique stay with such great reviews. While there were some positives of my stay- entering the hotel does feel like a respite from the craziness outside, we enjoyed our dinner at the restaurant, and the rooms are attractive in design- unfortunately, the noise issue was one of the worst I’ve ever experienced at a hotel.

My first room was adjoined to another and I could hear a family inside crystal clear through the door. I called down to ask to switch rooms and was moved to a more spacious room a floor up, which I appreciated. At first it seemed much quieter; however, later in the night, I started hearing music and voices from the room across the hall, and as soon as the couple in the connecting room returned home, I could hear every single thing going on in their room. It was even worse the next morning when housekeeping started cleaning. It made for an incredibly loud, stressful, and not restful stay. Based on other reviews, the hotel clearly must know this is an issue, and yet there is not even a white noise machine or earplugs provided. There is also an extra $25 fee charged for things that really should already be included (wifi, water) and an unimpressive continental breakfast not worth the cost. Ultimately, I just can't recommend a stay here.

We have executives stay here as it is a convenient location close to our offices by station or walking from Midtown Manhattan. Nice rooms and good service.

On a special note, my company hosted a group dinner for 30 plus guests at their inhouse restaurant, Public House, and I want to give a shoutout specifically to Aoife and Reina, our event managers. At the last second, they accomodated our 30+ guests and ensured we were properly staffed with our food preferences...even helped with our champagne toast! The restaurant itself has a fun/lively ambiance, is tastefully decorated, and our party found their food/drinks amazing. We have continued to have business dinners there and are always pleased with this level of servce - especially in midtown Manhattan!

I don't write reviews often but this little gem of a hotel deserves 10 stars and will be my new go to hotel whenever I travel to NYC. I booked online for best price and booked 3 rooms for a visit with my adults kiddos to celebrate my birthday. Let me start with saying this hotel is the real deal and provided the best customer service I have ever recieved by a hotel. Upon arrival Troy made us feel so at home and explained how to redeem our Welcome Pints, how to get extra water bottles in room if needed, and offered to send robes and slippers to our room as well. In my room was a special note and dessert acknowledging my birthday celebration which was extra special. The rooms themselves are so clean, new and so well decorated. They have everything you need and are actually look just like the photos online. The next morning the breakfast was fabulous!! If you choose to not get the continental breakfast they offer you a credit towards other breakfast options. The coffee is so yummy and my avocado toast was the best I have ever had. I met the manager Erika and told her how much we were enjoying our rooms and how every member of her team was so friendly, helpful and professional. This is the only hotel we will ever stay when visiting in NYC. My family and I felt like we were staying at a wonderful family members home, and this team treated us like family. HIGHLY RECOMMEND♡♡
Thanks for making our weekend so perfect!
