I’m back to traveling after a break since 2020 (like most everyone else). I needed a hotel room for one night while I conducted business in Manhattan. I know that many properties in the area have small rooms that are outdated and unpleasant. I did my due diligence to find a hotel that met my standards, and I was pleasantly surprised with this location. Usually, when I first get to my room, I let out a sigh of disappointment because it never looks exactly like the hotel website portrays. This time, the room looked better! I had no idea that the shades were such a cool feature, but I’ll get to that in a minute. The room was the perfect size and didn’t feel like everything was crammed into it. Please note: do not have your older relatives stay at this hotel! If grandma and grandpa can’t figure out how to use an iPad, then they can’t stay here. The lights, climate control, etc. are all operated via touch screen. The controls are intuitive, but not if you are a tech phone. I loved that I didn’t hear a bunch of kids running up and down the hallways, or generally anywhere during my stay. The vibe of the property is that it’s for adults to stay and play. I could be wrong, but I hope I’m not. Another bonus to the rooms is that the bathroom is separate in a highly aesthetic manner behind a sliding glass door. No, not the kind on a track like you have at home. This is a high end portal that doesn’t touch the floor below. I also love that the shower and toilet are hidden behind a door Ike this as well. I felt like I was in a really nice spa. Back to the shade discussion: This is the ONLY hotel I’ve ever stayed in that has 100% light blocking shades!! The fact that they are controlled via a mechanical method makes them cooler. You feel like your room is a space ship and you’re putting the shields up or down. You can guess that I played with this feature a few times! The hallways have illumination that is generated upward from the baseboards. This is a great touch that makes the journey to the ice machine feel cozy and doesn’t shock the eyes. Speaking of the ice machine—another nice bonus is that filtered water is available as well. There is also a handy vending machine where you can purchase chargers, cables, and other items you might have forgotten at home. Payment is negotiated via QR Code on your phone. Again, if your old parents aren’t used to new fangled technology, this stuff will boggle their minds. I sampled beverages at Bar Christie as well as at the lower level lobby. Both places were great. You don’t feel like you’re in just another hotel bar or lobby area. You feel like there was an intention made with the design. I will definitely be returning when I visit Manhattan again. I have status with other hotel chains, but I don’t see the point in going anywhere else.…
I had the pleasure of staying at PUBLIC visiting a friend on a layover in the city and will never stay anywhere else again.. we had such an amazing experience! The property is ahead of it's time, beautiful in design with ease of access, common areas for socializing that make you feel at home, and a top notch service staff that are always available and ready to help you with anything you need. The room made efficient use of the size and never felt crowded, taking advantage of every inch of space. The bed was so comfortable that I asked for the bedding information so I can buy it for my own home and the floor to ceiling views were incredible. We had the opportunity to enjoy drinks on the rooftop with stunning 360 degree views. Anything you need is only a click away with the concierge readily available by text or email to save you a trip to the lobby. I am a travel agent and get the opportunity to visit many wonderful, luxury hotels and PUBLIC truly is at the top of it's mark. Thank you for a wonderful stay!…
We had a fabulous time at the PUBLIC hotel. From the lobby, room and bars at the hotel, all was very luxurious! The hotel manager assured our stay was pleasant one. Thank you Angel for your great service. Definitely recommend!
Great hotel, couldn’t have been better. Room, location, amenities all excellent. Proper bars and restaurants, don’t even have to leave the hotel. Bartenders Miles and Torren make the visit worth trip alone. Can’t recommend highly enough.
Jessica and the PUBLIC staff made this trip to NYC our best ever! The lofts are absolutely phenomenal. PUBLIC’s location in the East Village along with all the amenities of a top hotel provided the perfect 5 day city getaway for our family.
Over the years we've stayed in several of Shrager's hotels and this was my favorite. 1) Rooms: While it was probably smaller than his other hotel rooms, the excellent use of space and design still meant you had space to put your suitcases and still move around. The blackout blinds really worked. Very comfortable space. 2) Amenities: Though they only had Apple chargers to loan, down the hall on our floor was a room with a small vending machine with chargers and more. In addition to the usual ice machine and buckets, they had ironing boards and extra towels in there is you needed them, so you could self-serve. 3) Staff: All super nice and very helpful. 4) Public spaces: All great. There's a nice garden area in front, which is a welcome change in NYC, and makes it pleasant to return. Typical Shrager, the check in is on the second floor. Didn't eat in the restaurant, but had coffee and drinks fun the cafe. They had live Cuban music Saturday night. The roof bar had a fabulous view. You do need to go up in a separate elevator from the second floor lobby. 5) Location: Awesome! Right near the B & F and everything LES. Despite the Whole Foods around the corner, the area still has some of the old NYC vibe and it's close to lots of good food, especially Russ & Daughters.…
I traveled to nyc for work and chose public for its unique aesthetic. ipad check in was quick and easy, the staff were all friendly and welcoming. Beds are super comfortable and loved the view from my room. The roof wine hour was a special touch for guest, thanks to the front desk for letting me know. Thanks to Angel for the restaurant and bar recommendations. Will be returning when i’m in nyc.
The bartender Alex was one of the highlights of the stay. While the roof was an amazing view of the city, the check-in was pretty smooth, the time spent at the lobby bar with the bar keeper Alex, was one of my favorite parts. And even though the rooms were small, the space was well used and it was a treat to hang out in. All around a great experience, made even greater by the exceptional staff who remembers your drink order even after one conversation.
BEST BARISTA IN NYC. Noelle was the best! He provides outstanding communication skills and really takes pride in his job. He made our day just by making us coffee which happened to be the best. Give this man a raise! I wish all the employees at this hotel was like him. Amazing hotel, but even better customer service from this young man.
Great hotel - the staff are always fantastic and so welcoming. Have stayed numerous times and if you’re looking for a base in the city It’s the perfect atmosphere for both work and socialising. Oh, and the cocktails are fantastic 👌
