Description
Completed in 1908, the American Seaman’s Friend Society Sailors’ Home and Institute was designed by William A. Boring, the architect renowned for Ellis Island’s immigrant station. Originally built as a More hotel for sailors with cabin-like rooms, the land-marked hotel was lovingly restored on its centennial in 2008 as the Jane Hotel. The Jane Hotel has continued to house guests with more dash than cash ever since. Less

This hotel is a great place for people wanting a base for their sightseeing trip to New York. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the subway and the Hudson River is across the road. Yes the rooms are small but they're more than adequate for sleeping and dressing in and have the es

I stayed here for one week in February of 2016 (ignore the official time period). It was a period of transition for me in my life, and I'm kind of a cat trapped in a human body, so being cocooned in what used to be a sailor's apartment was so perfect for me. The Jane is great for

We were charmed by the pictures of an old world hotel with an inviting lounge. Our room (a Captain's room) was great, private bathroom and a great terrace but it was not much use in the cold and rain. It was comfortable but really why is there not an in room coffee maker? At this

HI Pat, We're delighted to hear you really enjoy the details and style here at the Jane Hotel. I deeply apologize for the disruption from the Ballroom and am sorry to hear it was momentarily closed for a private event. The Jane Ballroom offers open seating most nights from 5pm to 9pm and is at the doorman's discretion from 9pm to close. You may also enjoy drinks at the bar in Old Rose, our restaurant just off the Jane Hotel entrance. We are always happy to ask the Ballroom to tone it down whenever things get over-exuberant and we do keep notes better match guests to rooms as every room at the Jane Hotel is truly unique. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the Front Desk with any and all requests as we have someone on staff 24 hours a day to assist. The Desk can be reached at any time by dialing 0 from the room. We look forward to seeing you again. Wishing Safe Travels, Jamie

in West Village. Another authentic yet unconventional way to stay in West Village. Superb ball room. Small rooms but got everything you need. Shared bathroom always clean and tidy. Very friendly team working there..

What is the most direct route from Stewart airport to the Jane? How long is it likely to take plane lands 7 pm on a Friday? And what would be rough cost ?
Hi Fionamcguigan, If you go to the Stewart Airport website (TripAdvisor doesn't allow links) you will find the Stewart Express, a Coach USA bus line to the New York City Port Authority Bus Station for about $20 a person. An Uber or a Lift service will run you about $200 for the trip. We look forward to seeing you. Wishing Safe Travels, Jamie

I’m staying at this hotel in a few weeks....Can anyone suggest fun things to do near the hotel....if you stayed here, what were your impressions of the hotel????....
Hi Michael, Thanks for asking. You might maximize your time by borrowing one of the complimentary bicycles we lend out to Jane Hotel guests. Please see the Front Desk during your stay for details. The Whitney Museum is just a couple blocks from the Jane and is my personal favorite among modern art museums. The Highline is a must see- a ground breaking park concept that is now inspiring the world over. We look forward to your stay. Cheers, Jamie

Does the offer airport shuttle to newark & how much per person?
Hi Joan, There are a couple of options to get to the hotel from Newark airport. First, the easiest way is to take a taxi directly from Newark to the hotel. The fare for this trip is about $60 plus tip and tolls. You should verify this amount with the driver prior to accepting the ride. Second, you can take the Super Shuttle. This is a shared van ride company that will bring you from the airport to the hotel. The fee for this service is about $22/person. You can get this transportation in the ground transportation area of the airport. For more info on the Super Shuttle please visit their website. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any further questions. Regards, Jamie

"Book a room only if you're okay with tiny living."
"There are Captains Cabins which have terraces but they do not face out to the river, they face inwards surrounded by walls."
"Only book a single cabin if you are traveling alone and don't plan to spend a ton of time in the room."
"There's a dance club in the basement on weekends, so if AC won't be on to gently block sound, ask the staff for tips re quiet rooms."
"To mitigate the noise, get a room on the top floor and not facing south or west."
