I stayed at The Standard East Village with friends in mid Feb. We were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff, and gorgeous which always helps ;-) Our room had floor to ceiling windows on two sides that had the most phenomenal views over the city, walking in just as the sun was going down set the scene for what was...

This hotel really is a jewel. Where to start! The cafe space amazingly transforms from a cozy brunch ambiance to a chic place to get drinks at night. The staff is so friendly and accommodating; you can tell they actually have fun while working. It makes you smile as you're walking through the front door! Each room has a stunning...

I travel to NYC a lot. I used to live in NYC. Why, oh why, have I not stayed at the Standard in the East Village before? Great rooms, great staff, great bistro, great location, incredible hospitality and service. I felt like I was away from the fast-pace, but had everything nearby. It was just perfect, but not trying to...

Tops! The most upbeat, friendly helpful staff- one of the coolest, chic yet unpretentious hotels I've ever stayed in. The cafe/bar was such a jewel with amazing food and a perfect NYC village atmosphere. Room was super clean, chic and cozy with one of the most comfy beds I've ever slept in. The view is one I will never forget....

We Recently just stayed at the Standard, during a snow storm, that seemed to hit most of the East Coast, I was a little apprehensive about staying in NYC that wkd as I hate being cold, but had to be there for work, and it was Valentine's weekend so we decided to make the most of it. The Hotel and...

I recently stayed at The Standard East Village and I was really pleasantly surprised. I've stayed at the Meatpacking Standard which was really not my thing (too loud, too trendy). This is a grown up version of the rock and roll Standard brand, and something I hope they'd get more into. When I checked in I was so warmly received,...

I just spent 4 days here and couldn't be happier with my stay. I have stayed at other Standards and feel this one more than lived up to the Standard "standard." Cool, modern design, the service was exceptional, and the views cannot be beat. Most comfy bed I've ever slept in too. Couldn't reccomend it more for a warm, intimate...

I stayed in this hotel recently for a couple of days whilst on a business trip in NYC. My son (NYC resident) recommended it. I was extremely disappointed. The room was very small (fire escape map on door suggested others were about the same size). The bed was a queen size yet filled the whole room. The wardrobe reminded me...

Dear Kevin M Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I was delighted to learn that you enjoyed the views from your guest room but naturally, I was very disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your overall experience. I am sorry that the room felt small & cold and that despite our recent...

My wife and I went for a quick trip to NYC and stayed 1 Saturday night in February. We have stayed several times at the Standard in the Meatpacking District. This hotel is a disappointment in comparison. There is no "vibe" as there is across town. The room was ok but the beds were WAY too soft. The shower set...

Matthew T, Manager at The Standard, East Village, responded to this review

Dear Robert F Thank you for taking the time to provide us your feedback. I was very sorry to learn that your experience did not mirror that of our property on the west-side. Due to the more intimate size of our operation and our neighborhood location we have purposely created a different vibe to that of our meatpaking counterpart. I...

Honestly it is difficult to give this a lower than excellent score. I am traveling on my favorite site, HotelTonight. I suspect had I paid the regular rate I would be very disappointed in the lack of communication. Through no fault of their own, the Standard is adjacent to a phenomenally loud construction site. And NY being what it is,...

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located off Cooper Square in one of New York's most vibrant, artistic neighborhoods, The Standard, East Village is cozy, charming, and eccentric in equal measure-very much in the spirit of its surroundings. You enter the 21-story tower through an original tenement-style building before ascending to unparalleled views of Manhattan. There's a quiet, calm garden tucked away at street level, Michelin-starred chef John Fraser's widely acclaimed Narcissa, and the bustling, street-side Café Standard, which hums from morning until late night. ... more   less
