Before arriving to the hotel I read a couple of not so positive reviews about the front desk.
Luckily I had the opposite experience.
As I was approaching the front desk looking for the SPG dedicated reception, a lady great me with a smile and...More

We have just spent 4 nights at the W Hotel including New Years Eve. Despite the snow and ice outside, a very warm welcome greeted us at the check in desk. The hotel was very busy at the time and a young lady was handing...More

Bottom line - I think this hotel is fine for a sightseeing stay, but would not recommend for business travelers. And yes, the rooms are small, but they have everything one could need, and the hotel is conveniently located.
I stayed here one night before...More

Great location close to Central Park etc. The rooms are small and clean but have all the basic necessities. No fridge or coffee facilities are provided which would be useful. Our room the first night was streetside and we hear sirens, car horns and other...More
The queue at check in took about half an hour. This wasn't entirely unexpected, as I got there at about five-thirty in the evening, but it was the start to an entirely unremarkable stay. One of the elevators was out, so I spent a good...More

This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the
affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

I think it would all depend on what you have paid. The cheapest price always gets you a 'cozy' room. We were on the side overlooking the Marriott and it was fine. You are going to be staying in a densely popular area, really there is no view other than skyscrapers everywhere. You can't believe how busy Lexington Ave is. We heard no traffic noise whatsoever (8th floor). Don't sweat what room you're getting, you will be out most of the time seeing all NY has to offer. It is one amazing city.
There's a plethora of taxes people warn you about: so I checked with travel agents and the hotel. Couple of phone calls. Both confirmed there were no extra taxes would be charged. I'd suggest doing that.

"Ask for an internal room away from the street noise for a better sleep."
