Friendly staff, comfortable bed and clean room, all at a decent price. I was visiting for two nights on a backpacker's budget and a friend recommended the Larchmont. Glad he did. Checking in I was reminded of a line from a Robert Cray song - 'There's a chest and mirrors, the shower's down the hall'. But having lived in college...

I have stayed at the Larchmont Hotel at least 10 times over the last 10 years. I have stayed there primarily for price and location. It is on a gorgeous street between 5th and 6th Avenue in the Village. The street is quiet and lined with Brownstone buildings and trees (think Sex in the City streets on the show!). It...

This was our third stay at the Larchmont and, as always, we enjoyed it. I flew into NYC from a business trip in the Middle East, where I stayed in a US$620-a-night hotel and I can honestly say I liked the Larchmont better. Perfect location, safe and secure street, and great service at the hotel, led by the always-smiling Gustavo....

Shortly: 1. We are backpacking pair travelling on our own, age about 50 each (100 together (!)), Denmark. 2. Spent 3 nights in the hotel 19-22 of October 2008. 3. Staff friendly and nice, smiling. 4. Room partly clean, broken things did not repaired by years (I guess) 5. Great location, close both to the downtown and upper Manhattan, 5...

I stayed at the Larchmont (travelling alone) in 2006 and was quite impressed by what it was for the price (4th night free at the time). I went this month (Nov 2008) with family (baby included!) that is used to staying in nicer hotels but were a bit put aback by the prices of NYC. The hotel can really use...

Ok, first the bad: rooms small, shared baths, dated furnishings, short on charm. Now the good: great neighborhood, safe, good value for the price. Have travelled to NYC numerous times on government per diem, numerous times on personal dime. Have stayed at Larchmont maybe 4 or 5 times (on personal dime, of course). The reality check: That good hotel you...

We stayed at the Larchmont in September 08 for my Birthday weekend. The price was good and considering most of us who go to the city don't worry about sleeping too much as there is too much to do. However that said, although the room was fairly clean if not small, I think there are better deals for boutique hotels...

This place is a great value on a (relatively) quiet street (for NYC) in a good neighborhood (Greenwich Village) with a lot of good options within walking distance. The staff are very friendly and helpful. But be aware of the drawbacks before you stay: -Many rooms are internet wi-fi dead zones, and I even had problems keep a reliable connection...

I wouldn't say our stay was terribly bad, but it wasn't good either. The room was small, the shared bathroom not clean, the breakfast not tasty and the staff not very friendly. The positive aspect was the price, but there are better hotels out there in the same price range.

We had a great stay at the Larchmont over New Years in 2004 so when we visited New York last month we stayed at the Larchmont and once again the hotel was perfect. We stayed on the second floor and our room (a small double) was clean, quiet and quaint, and the bathrooms on the floor were very clean and...

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighbourhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
