I’m telling you all about my concerns because the hotel staff and management apparently don’t care. I have spent over 100 nights at the US Grant over the past 20 years. I’ve spent over 760 nights with Starwood and thousands of nights in other hotels around the world. I’m a lifetime platinum level. I only share this to preface: I have had great times in leprosy hospitals and castles. I’m really not that hard to please, when it comes to hotels. My last 2 visits to the US Grant where the only bad experiences I have ever had with this hotel.. The visit this past Friday will be my last. Don’t tell me your upgrading me on a Friday night and then give me a tiny room overlooking a dilapidated building with !!!! written all over the windows. That’s not even the real problem. Don’t ever let them give you room 908!!! The bathroom is so small: the glass shower door extends out past the bathroom exit!!!! I walked into the bathroom and swung the door closed; not realizing the glass shower door was blocking the doorway!!! I came within ounces of force; breaking the plate glass shower door. This room is a death trap and the bathroom is so small; you would have to leave the room just to change your mind. But it was an upgrade???😀😅. From what? I called the hotel today asking for a manager. I waited a couple days to let my frustration soften. The lady who answered all but demanded to know specifically why I wanted to speak with a manager. She said the manager was not available but she would discuss my issues with her and have her call me back. So: I took time to discuss my concerns. 30 minutes later I do hear from the manager. She had no idea why I had called. So much for the concerns I voiced. Btw. Stayed Saturday night at the Park Hyatt Aviara. Wow!! They know how to treat people. Bar and restaurants open. People where friendly and the standard room was spectacular. …
This property had always been on top of my wishlist for hotel in SD. This year we decided to stay here for a quick b-day getaway. At check-in, I was up-sold to a Grand Deluxe Room with "an amazing bathroom and shower" on what supposed to be a "VIP floor" (11th floor). I had understood that the regular rooms here are small but I wanted a good view. Upon entering the room, there was no view. There was above-the-waist windows that looks out to the back of some buildings and I believed there was even a garbage space or something that looked very demolished. The room was the weirdest hotel room I've ever seen, and mind you, I've been to some weird hotels in Europe. It's just this random space that was hastily put together. The door opens right into the bed, then there is a nondescript space between the bed and the desk with 1 single accent chair. Who did decor for this place? They should put a love seat between the bed and the desk to at least show some effort. Then, the "amazing" bathroom was just a small toilet with standing shower. I wonder if the guy at the front desk even knew what "amazing bathroom and shower" means for a 5* hotel??? 5 minutes in and I knew I would not be sleeping well, so I called to upgrade ourselves into their junior suite. It's on a non-vip floor (but really, what was so vip about the 11th floor, except they have a special button for the elevator?). The view was better (view of the pool of the hotel next door). But it's a Really Small space. And again, who did the decor for this place? It is UGLY. I get that they wanted to make the space more modern, but the layout is just weird and the furniture looks so cheap. Please see the pictures for yourself how weirdly and terribly designed this hotel is. It's an old building so expect the types of noise you would hear, street noise (it was a quiet Saturday in SD due to covid) and old ac + plumbing system. But after that horrendous first impression, I could not care any less about everything else. The soft products are nice, at least. They use Frette and Byredo products. But I will Never be back. You have so many options in SD: Kimpton for trendy downtown feel, the 2 Westins for boring but safe and clean rooms, Intercontinental for new rooms and great view, etc. If this property used to be a luxury hotel in SD, I'm so sorry I missed its peak. But Marriott, this is NOT a 5* hotel. You better adjust it or else you are gonna disappoint lots of guests such as myself.…
Truly an outstanding hotel in all aspects even with COVID limitations. My suite was comfortable, clean, well maintained and had a great view. Staff throughout the property were welcoming, friendly and professional. Room service was prompt and the food yummy! Delivery of elite benefits was flawless as well.
Very good hotel, warm room and excellent service....Bonvoy well recognize and the staff was very good. Great location with a lot restaurants, cafe around. important note, the hotel is very clean. My rate it was good
Pros: - classic old hotel - lots of food options - very clean - good service - comfortable bed Cons: - small room - expensive - homeless/safety issues outside hotel This is one of the places I have always wanted to stay at in San Diego. The hotel is very old, but has classy modern upgrades. The room was quite small, but very clean and the bed was wonderful. There are tons of food options within walking distance. I encountered lots of homeless, drunks and drug addicts while walking around the area. If you go out for food or drinks you need to be safety conscious, especially in the evening hours. Obviously this is not the fault of the hotel, but it is something guests need to be aware of. As a platinum guest I received a $20 credit for breakfast in the restaurant. The food and service was very good. The bellman ran out to the street to flag down my confused Uber driver. All service was excellent and as expected from a high-end hotel. It took about 10-15 minutes to get to the airport. I would certainly stay here again.…
