Great location, for parents and family with an excellent presentation. Rooms, common spaces, and pool area are all great. Within walking distance of rapid bus transit and close to lots of SD attractions, (zoo, balboa park, downtown). Less than 20 minutes from the airport. Great nostalgic hotel.

My daughter Kate and I were in San Diego looking at colleges for her and I wanted a suite with separate bathrooms, AC etc. The price was right and the room was a little dated and funky but clean and roomy, the bathrooms were spotless and the room service and front desk were great. Thank you for your review! We are glad that we could make your family’s visit to the area a pleasant one. Our staff works hard to give our guests great quality of service, and we will be sure to share your kind words with them. They deserve the recognition! Gorgeous old building with a 40s/50s glamour vibe. The pool was a real social hub, surrounded by palm trees and the hotel restaurant over looking it. The rooms are nice and big and a comfortable bed. The location was a walk to some great thrift shops and restaurants, recommend the 'urban soul'. The main city centre of san Diego is...

My friend and I visited California for a split-trip (four days in LA and four in San Diego). I read reviews for around 10 hotels in the San Diego area. We wanted a hotel in a centralized area, exciting for two mid-20's women, and reasonably priced. The LaFayette came out on top as our pick. When we arrived, the staff...

So this was a good spot for 3 nights while awaiting a new Marine to graduate. Besides the hotel they have a few bungalows and four of us stayed in #2. Full kitchen, dining area, large living room downstairs, and up the wide staircase was a full bath and two bedrooms, one with a king, the other a full. They...

I loved the old school feel of this property. The location was perfect for me being in San Diego to visit friends. The staff was outstanding. I really didn't know what to make of this place. I've been traveling to San Diego for work over that last few months and typically staying at Marriotts, Hiltons, and the Omni, but for whatever reason I decided to try this place out. Built in 1946, the Lafayette has been the site of historical glamour, and offers a unique change from a typical hotel experience. Among its famous guests were Bob Hope, Lana Turner, Ava Gardner and Betty Grable. Inside, the Mississippi Ballroom took center stage where Hollywood’s stars came to dance the night away. “The Presidential Suite is very affordable and HUGE and very private! It was great for having friends over for a drink and birthday cake. Two little things because it's a historic hotel...elevator only goes as far as the level below this room. ..so expect to walk a floor up. Also, the fireplace is only for looks. ”
