Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

If you weren’t looking for it, you might not find it. It’s tucked into the back of a shopping center and almost blends in like offices buildings. I believe This used to be an Extended Stay that’s been taking over by the Sonesta group of hotels. While having that “longer term stay” feel it still manages to fit the short stay needs as well. Every room has a decent size kitchenette with full fridge/freezer, dishwasher, stove top, and microwave. The space is well utilized and gives off a very jr. suite feel that’s reasonably priced. It takes a specific set of circumstances to be in the market for a hotel in Carmel Mountain Ranch, but I figure this Sonesta to be the best of the limited options en lieu of traveling north to Rancho Bernardo.

We are staying here while our house is under construction. We've been here 2 and a half months, and the entire staff has gone above and beyond to make us feel at home. Their daily sanitizing procedures make us feel safe with our two small children. Certain amenities are not available (like hot breakfast) due to COVID-19, but the staff are doing everything they can to ensure guests are comfortable and safe. I would happily stay here again, highly recommended!

During a two month stay at the residentance inn I've had zero discrepancies with the room or service. The hospitality is above reproach and their staff sets the standards for other hotels to emulate. Also the complimentary breakfast is an outstanding why to start the day. To finish the day on Monday though Wednesday they serve food in a manner that allows conversation with others in a relaxed environment. Over all this establishment is a great getaway or a alsome busyness stay.

COVID19 Compliant: Mask, Sanitizing stations, safe spacing. Slept comfortably. Queen bed suite with extra sofa bed. A little market is located in the lobby. Small balcony outside bedroom. Convenient with great amenities [Keurig coffee, dish soap included]. Full fridge, microwave, stove, dishwasher and Keurig coffee maker. Also there are dishware and silverware. Hairdryer in bathroom. Ample supply of charging outlets. The clock has numerous plugs. The lamps also contain plug outlets. HBO cable included. WIFI. There is a pool [due to COVID19, max. 15 persons in pool], jacuzzi, fire pit and basketball courts. This location is conveniently close to 15 Freeway, Chevron gas station, numerous restaurants within walking distance [Italian, Mexican, Thai, American, Baskin Robbins, CVS Pharmacy, etc]. Also conveniently close to Carmel Mountain Plaza [next block over] which has additional restaurants and shops. [BrokenYolk, Chick-fil-A, Home Depot, Nordstrom Rack, etc.] Staff was professional, polite and friendly. Quiet stay. Please note, Garbage truck on Monday. This hotel is definitely convenient for business travelers. I will be staying here again.

I need you to know that these people at this hotel didn't know what was going on from one person to the next. I asked them for extra bedding and towels, and they brought us a pillow, no towels, then I had to go down to the lobby and ask again for more towels and wait for the 1 person at the desk to finish checking in someone, who they lost her reservation, and then answer the phones and then get my towels. Then they kept asking if I want to charge things to my room, which is really strange, and they were very hard to understand. When I checked out the did not offer me a receipt or anything because they said that everything had already been paid for online, but after we got home I found out that they are charging me a PET FEE, which I did not bring a pet, and they are charging me for parking, which I never was told or signed for being charged for parking. They are trying to charge me over 108.00 for these things! I will be disputing these charges if they don't reverse them, and I will tell you this, we will NEVER stay at this one or one of these chains again!

I stayed here for 1 night and also stayed at Sonesta Sorrento Valley for 3 nights.
I can easily compare the two and highlight differences. While my stay here was only OK rated 3/5, Sonesta at Sorrento Valley is far superior and better than this one and I would rate that 4 or 5/5.
The room was missing lot of things such as dish soap and scrubber, extra sheet and comforter or pillow except for the main bed.
The carpet was also quite run down. The room was clean in general and smelled fresh.
Location is very good and all the stores are close by. Parking was not free - $8 extra. Sonesta at Sorrento valley offers free parking, is more quieter and has very friendly and welcoming staff.
The rates are almost the same but you get far better bang for your bucks in the Sonesta at Sorrento valley

My stay at the Residence Inn of San Diego Rancho/Carmel Mountain Ranch will be one to remember! This was my first time ever visiting the beautiful state of California while visiting my son. I was extremely pleased with all of the amenities this facility had to offer! The pool was relaxing and not overly crowed! My own little paradise away from the city! Even though we visited during the pandemic, the staff made me feel safe with all of their precautions. I can not say enough how friendly all of the staff was! They always greeted me with a smile and were very informative with things do do in the area..especially helpful being from out of town. When they found out it was my birthday they were so kind to bring me a complimentary bottle of wine! What a wonderful surprise! The rooms were very clean and they had Paul Mitchell hair products! No scrimping from me! Many restaurants and shops in walking distance and a great trail to hike up into the hills. I would come back in a heart beat! Thank you!!!

From the minute we arrived for our two night stay, the entire Residence Inn staff was so welcoming and accommodating to ensure our visit was a positive, safe & pleasant one. The 2 bedroom (w/kitchen) we reserved was clean, comfortable and worked perfect for our family. The pool & spa were both open, as well as laundry service & a bag breakfast was provided each morning at the front desk. The hotel service was amazing - My daughter even lost her purse (while trying to bring things up to the room) & it was quickly returned (all intact) by the hotel staff – such honest & kind people ! We appreciate the exceptional service we received by Elvia, Charlie, Bernard, Ketan and the whole staff during our visit & look forward to another getaway at the Carmel Mountain Residence Inn soon - It truly was great ! The hotel is also just off the 15 Fwy and walking distance to many stores & restaurants : )

We came to San Diego with nervous intrepidation for a memorial service at Miramar for a family member. By chance, we were able to stay at Sonesta ES Suites Carmel Mountain Rancho Bernardo. We were immediately impressed with the cleanliness and pleased to become aware of the kitchen addition to our room.

Upon talking with family, there was an interest in gathering together after the service. Looking out our windows and seeing the BBQ pavilion, we knew that it would accommodate a small gathering. We quickly contacted the management team and were graciously received. Not only were they able to accommodate our needs, but were very sensitive to our loss.

Over the next few hours, our family were able to assuage the pain and grief and the loss that we felt at graveside. We will be eternally grateful for the professionalism, the enthusiasm for the sensitivity for your staff and membership.

Our hotel room was very clean but the pool area was dirty. The ground was so dirty we wouldn’t take our shoes off. The hot tub looked like it wasn’t cleaned in months. The breakfast was ok.
They didn’t seem to understand what benefits an Elite status member received. We didn’t get a welcome gift. They did end up not charging us for the two bottles of water so they did honor the $15 credit for the status and the free parking.
