Beautiful boutique hotel in the middle of Little Italy. Perfectly positioned for amazing eats all day and night. Simply open your window and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of downtown SD. Hotel staff - especially Hannah - are extraordinarily helpful and friendly. Room was clean and comfy. Great views street side. Cute hidden patio area at street level. Convenient parking (additional fee) Would definitely stay here again. This fabulous find is centrally located to balboa park and the waterfront.
We enjoyed this hotel smack dab in the middle of Little Italy! Started off with excellent customer service from Brandon, (A gem himself!) making reservations AND upon our arrival. So pleasant, welcoming and informative. Our queen room had a lovely view of the bay and sunset. It was a tad small, but for the value…so doable. Our room was very clean and fresh, as was the rest of the hotel. There are so many yummy and fun restaurants within walking distance; coffee at the restaurant downstairs through the lobby is so convenient. They’re friendly too. The area rocks and rolls at night, but turn on the little wall fan and sleep like babies! Saturday, wake up to a bustling, fabulous farmers market. Our only issue was a queen bed-we’re tall people and the bed was a tad small for us. We will absolutely return to this hotel and request two queens next time. Problem solved. Thanks for the great stay💜See you soon!…
The hotel is located in little Italy. There is a fabulous Italian called Mona Lisa on here that was excellent value for money and delicious too. It’s a 5-10 min drive to the airport. We walked to the zoo which took around 45 mins. We took a Lyft to old town and back. This was too far to walk. Yes the rooms are small as the reviews do tell you. A coffee machine would be a good investment in the rooms. As would a room card that operates the lift to go upward to your room. There are many homeless in the city and with there being no safe in the rooms I feel it would be extra security. The staff were helpful and friendly.
Third visit to La Pensione this time we brought our adult children and 9 year old and 14 year old grandchildren. Perfect location for family visit to zoo, USS Midway, Balboa Park, streetside restaurants, access to public transportation. Staff is responsive and always available.
Great staff and clean room. The room was smaller then expected, but you don't need much if you are going to spend all day outside exploring. The hotel is located in the middle of little Italy, next to great resturants. When visiting San Diego, this will be my go to hotel.
Great staff, plenty of nearby nightlife and restaurants. Paid for parking in a very secure garage. Easy walk down to waterfront. Close to Gaslamp. Close to trains and metro. Decent price. Definitely do again
The only good thing about this hotel is the location if you like being right in the middle of everything. The Farmers Market outside on Saturdays is amazing and that is why we picked this hotel. We could literally walk outside into the Farmer Market. That was the only good thing really. Now onto the ZERO amenities. I mean that. Okay, there is a small fridge in the room. Coffee? Nope. Not in the room and not in the "hotel" where it's free. There is a coffee business downstairs BUT it doesn't open until 7am and for us early risers, we are waiting around for coffee. They don't have complimentary breakfast, nada. Except for a fridge, I'm serious when I say zero amenities. The rooms are very small. We live in a very modest house and our bedrooms are bigger than the hotel room. The shower? Sucks if you don't like water in your face and have long thick hair. It comes out of the ceiling so falls on top of your head without a way to adjust it and there's no pressure. It was a nightmare. My husband loved it because he loves getting water on his face but I don't because I wear contacts. Closet for clothes? No. There is a bar hanging from the ceiling to hang up your clothes if need be. Elevator? Yes but it was broken when we first got there so we used the stairs the entire wknd. Haha. Fitness center it says it has? Nope. We tried to use it but it was "out of order" and locked up. The staff was super nice but for the price, some amenities would be nice. We won't stay there again. Oh, and if you want peace and quiet, this is NOT the place. NOISY!!…
La Pensione is in the heart of Little Italy with great street views. It is a short walk to all shops, bars, and restaurants. Parking is conveniently located below the hotel with an elevator to all floors. I will definitely be returning.
La Pensione review Hubby booked this hotel for my birthday weekend, Brandon was extremely helpful and patient when I called him a few times to ask him about the parking situation. The other FrontDesk agents were friendly and helpful too. The hotel is a cozy boutique hotel, located in Little Italy, surrounded by the wonderful smells of Italian cuisine. The lobby has a fireplace and a few seats. The room was small, clean and had the necessities needed for an overnight stay. There was a fridge and TV. We loved the rain shower. We had the option to store our suitcases with them, while finding parking. Honestly, once you’re checked in, you don’t need your car, everything is in walking distance. They have a Saturday Farmer’s Market directly in front of their door, all the way down the street. Totally loved this. The morning coffee was available at the little coffee shop, next to the lobby. If you have a truck or SUV, you won’t be able to park in this hotel’s garage, it only accommodates compact vehicles, and costs $30 per night. Alternatively, there are lots of other parking places around ranging from $16 and up, if you don’t mind walking to the hotel. There is also meter-parking around the hotel. Also Gaslamp District was rocking on Friday night, and only a 20 minute walk from hotel, if you don’t mind getting your steps in. There are Uber’s and these little lit-up motorized or non-motorized carts available from the GasLamp. I did like this little gem and will be back. Thank you Brandon for all the suggestions.…
We stayed at the La Pensione for four nights in early February. The location in Little Italy is great. Easy walk to so many places and connections to public transportation. Our room was small, but very clean and quiet. Staff was always present at the front desk and very accommodating. Definitely would consider going back.
