I booked the hostel on short notice after a friend recommended them. The quick availability was despite the quality - not because of it. I've frequented a handful of hostels in Europe and the US, and generally have ended up pretty lucky. But the HI Boston location was truly fantastic. Lots of room options (mixed or gender specific, different number...

I arrived here after a sleepless overnight flight, only to be given a very rude greeting by the staff. There was a small queue, which I expected, but to be spoken to in a short and aggressive manner was not expected. Once that was over with, I was able to leave my bag and go explore Boston, and return later...

I arrived quite later in the evening around 10 pm for check-in, but I definitely felt welcome by the chill, hip atmosphere once I stepped in. Luis helped me check in, he asked me where I'm from and flaunted a couple of Korean expressions; I know the gesture like that can be overdone and come across as slightly snotty at...

This would have to be one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in. They have thought about everything in regards to ammenities and everything is accessible and convenient in terms of location. I love that you have a little charging station and light next to the bed, each bed is assigned a huge locker to put your stuff...

The beds are comfy and the lockers are secure. Be sure to bring your own lock, though they do sell them. The laundry is a bit expensive but it's nice to be able to have clean clothes. The cafe downstairs is decent, great for a pop late at night!

Visited HI Boston twice now - a really top-notch hostel. Made the rest of our budget trip feel especially so! Only thing is you have to have a weird induction from the reception staff, even if you've spent your entire time staying in HIs... Anyway, building is modern, rooms are smart with individual plugs, safes, lights and shelves on each...

I like its bedroom design the best: i lived in an innermost bed, and we each have our small closets and lights, so we can avoid disturbing others while having our own lights on. Beds, sheets and towels were clean and of decent quality among hostels. Such details made me feel amazing! And it's public area is also among the...

We stayed here for 3 days and the place was excellent. The staff are all extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We had a private room that was quite large, clean and very comfortable. We had our own private ensuite that also had a hair dryer. Breakfast was good with bagels, cereal, juice, tea, coffee etc. The location is great and...

I have found that traveling by hostel is an easy way to make a trip a whole lot less expensive. That is, if you are to sleep in bunk beds in a room with maybe 3 or 7 other room mates! And I certainly am, even at the ripe age of 62. I've never had an uncomfortable or regrettable experience...

Your experience is going to depend heavily on who you end up getting for roommates. Sometimes they'll be rude. Others will be interesting. You're rolling the dice. As for the hostel itself, it's among the nicer hostels you'll find. Modern, clean, basic.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
