Best described as an inn rather than a hotel, the Jeffries offers hospitality and a wonderful Charles St. location at the bottom of Beacon Hill. Interior rooms are the best for quiet. Kitchen is helpful although continental breakfast and all day coffee and fruit give it the touch of a B&B. My room looked new although bed and chairs were...

I was in Boston finishing up my job there before moving out of town and, after sleeping for a week on the hard, bare floor of an apartment stripped of furniture, I desperately wanted to sleep comfortably on my last night in town. The John Jeffries House was recommended to me by the owner of my other favorite B&B in...

Beacon Hill is a wonderful area to stay in. The value was excellent. If you want 5 star go elsewhere and pay for it. If you want convenience of location and value, this is it. it is across from the subway and a short walk from the Commons. Breakfast is a bit thin but it gets you out fast to...

I needed a two-room suite for a Saturday night in June, and the John Jeffries House was the only place I found in downtown Boston that was under $200 ($189/night plus tax). As others have mentioned, it is fairly utilitarian but clean. Personally, I liked the look of the building, inside and out, but it's not an ornate number with...

The perfect location, in the heart of Beacon Hill, was only one of the reasons we chose John Jeffries House. The price was competitive which helped a lot. The hotel itself was cozy, clean, upscale, and friendly. For breakfast they served local bakery products--my favorite being chocolate croissants. Everything is within your reach. We walked a couple blocks and got...

Stayed 2 nights in May 2010 with my teenager and he recommends JJH. And as the quatity-price is unbeatable, returned with my husband for 3 nights this August. He was not impressed at 1st sight but fast joined my positive opinion for many reasons like romantic walks by the Charles river and old/calm streets, wow ! Boston metro is so...

It was nice, nothing fancy. The room was clean, bathroom clean, a/c worked great, fan in the room. The noise from the hospital was definately there. That was with the windows open. The room had double glass windows, plus a storm window. When we went to bed we heard nothing from the street. Staff was nice and location was great....

I had a single room with a twin bed a table and a chair on the second floor. There was no room for a night stand so I moved the chair at night. The TV was opposite the side of the bed. I had no need for ths stove or microwave but the fridge was nice to have. It was...

John Jeffriees House is charming and has wonderful staff. Rooms are rather spartan but some have kitchenettes and you can't beat the location or price. Highly recommended.

Staying in Beacon Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Beacon Hill
Visit this historic and ritzy Boston neighborhood to soak up its classic New England charm as you stroll down cobblestoned, gas-lamp lined streets. Bring your walking shoes, camera, and select a nice day to wander through the hilly neighborhood and check out its exclusive addresses. Louisburg Square, Mt. Vernon street, Chestnut street and the extremely narrow and widely photographed Acorn street make a nice walking path. Make sure to meander down Charles street to poke into boutiques and antique shops, cafes, and restaurants on this quaint shopping street. Don’t forget to catch a glimpse up close of the State House with its beautiful and iconic dome.
