We were very anxious but blessed to stay at the Newbury Guest House for our first visit to Boston. Living in South Africa we are fully aware of the problems with violence in society but the generosity and support from the local community was unbelieveably outstanding. The Guest House was all that we could have imagined in comfort, service and...

Great location and super helpful staff. We stayed at Newbury just after the Marathon bombing and the staff were all helpful caring and kind. We were still there when Boston went into lockdown and it wad the day we needed to fly home to Australia. They sat on hold on our behalf for ages when the city was on lockdown,...

The reviews were so right with this place. Lovely clean, classic rooms with beautifully fresh bedding and plenty of space. The real star is the location - a stylish brownstone building in the heart of Newbury street, one of the most stylish shopping streets in Boston, with boutiques and cafes lining both sides. We only went to Boston for 2...

Came here this past weekend, for St Pattys day fesitivites, with my boyfriend and was pleased with the Newbury Guest House. Most of the Staff was helpful. Tea/Coffee in the lobby. My room was on the 4th floor, overlooking the parking lot (not a big deal). Room was a good size, clean, and had its own air/heat settings. Bed was...

Terrific room. Terrific service. Great breakfast. Feels like you're in a real neighborhood with restaurants, a used book store, bars, you name it. and coffee/tea in the living room/lounge 24/7. The only thing lacking are black-out blinds and a health club.

I was in town for a three-day conference. Newbury Guest House was a block and world away from the convention center that was packed with 11,000 conferees. The Newbury is a quiet place with beautiful hardwood floors and tall ceilings. Fireplaces, antiques and beautiful set the stage for the comforts to come. Our room was very spacious and luxuriously appointed....

We really enjoyed our stay at this small hotel recently. It is in a great location near shops and restaurants and not too far from the T. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were comfortable and well appointed. I appreciated the free Wi-Fi and breakfast included in the price. The rate we paid seemed quite reasonable for the...

I stayed here for a shopping weekend and I chose the guest house because of the location. It was a great choice. You are within walking distance of lots of shopping and the guest house sits right on Newbury street which has lots of boutiques and restaurants. We bought olive oil across the street and shopped at both copley place...

I stayed here on a recent business trip, and had definitely mixed feelings. The neighborhood is great and the location is convenient to the T, so it is pretty easy to get anywhere. The staff were friendly and helpful, and (as noted elsewhere) the hotel had a distinctly European feel in its layout and ambiance. There were a few "issues"...

Staying in Back Bay

Neighbourhood Profile
Back Bay
Wander around this quintessential neighborhood in the heart of Boston for high-end shops, restaurants, and the feeling of city bustle. Its most identifiable skyscrapers, the Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower, are highlights of the city skyline. Visit Newbury street to explore unique and trendy boutiques – as well as every other kind of store imaginable – all housed in beautiful brownstone buildings. In nice weather, restaurant patio seating is packed with Bostonians and tourists alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the food. Commonwealth Ave offers a beautiful stroll down residential tree-lined streets. Keep walking towards the Charles River and enjoy a beautiful view by the water. In warmer months, people run and bike on paths running along the esplanade, and sail and kayak on the Charles River. Boylston street, also full of shops, bars, and restaurants, is the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Head towards Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library, which is particularly beautiful from the Dartmouth street entrance.
