We were a little nervous travelling here in early June. Was it going to be too hot? What if we get there and there is no availability in the campground? We are so glad we went, It was cool at night. The afternoons were warm,...More

Big Bend has several campsite locations throughout the park. I recommend staying at Chisos Basin. The park ranger told us it was 15° cooler at this part of the mountain than everywhere else. Considering it got up to over 100° this was extremely helpful information....More

Spent one night there on a daughter/father camping trip. Great campground. The sites are close together, but separated mostly by shrubs and rocks, so the feeling is that you're all alone...which is nice! Bathrooms are nice and clean. There are no campfires permitted, but they...More

Of the three campgrounds at Big Bend, Chisos Basin is probably the best to pitch your tent in. It is probably the smallest so best to get there early unless you have a place reserved. Only 26 of 60 sites are reservable. There was not...More

I'm hoping to do some solo camping from May 27 through 30, but all of the campsites are reserved. Anyone have any recommendations where I can drop my tent nearby for a few nights and stay nearby?

Did you try Cottonwood Campground? Kind of a trek from Chisos Basin, but still in the BBNP. Otherwise, right outside the park there is Rancho Topango.
