Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked the hotel for the price. However, even though it says $59 or $65, the price they actually charge is $125. Also, it is in such an horrendous area, I truly did not anticipate getting out alive. Under NO circumstances consider booking this place unless you are actively suicidal and like living in filth!

The neighborhood was crawling with homeless people and junkies. You won't find a safe parking spot anywhere near the hotel. I saw a couple of guys trying to break into a car parked right in front of the hotel. I paid before arrival and after seeing how unsafe the neighborhood was I requested for a refund but I was rudely declined. Wouldnt recommend anyone staying here even for free.

Creepy, drug filled area. Rooms have shared bathrooms. No AC. Pictures look nothing like the hotel itself. I would NEVER bring a child here. Prices are too high. No extra plugs in rooms. Uncomfortable and creepy! Seems like a halfway house. Would not reccomend..

as san francisco hotels just get more and more expensive i check out some of the more interesting options from time to time. knowing the neighborhood (bad) knowing i would not want to park near by. car break in's in SF are epidemic so parking on street in the tenderloin is a problem. however... the room was clean, once inside the lobby was clean but the common bathroom was not good. only one bathtub for an entire floor. i knew i would be coming and going so i just wanted a bed, but with a warm night in SF and the windows open it was loud, and the ambulance and police activity in this area is very loud, and all night long. i parked south of market and used bicycle rentals to run around. It worked for me but i was by myself and rough places don't bother me.

While I stayed at this hotel I found it to be hugely improved this is my second visit. Cleaner Rooms are better. The only problem I had read with the night person on staff. Where in the world they found him i can only guess. And his girlfriend. They were smoking meth all night out looked like a barn with all their animals and I seen the night person opening other people mail and pocketing credit cards. Thur name Betty read in one i stole sc glance at. I scared of this man becuz he had a gun. I'll never stay there agsin.

Me and my brother wanted to stay here in July 2018. We had made a reservation and everything was confirmed. But up on arrival they canceled our booking due to some issues with the hostel security. Everyone got canceled that day, not just us. We went somewhere else, and got insured that our deposit would be automatically refunded. However, they charged the entire money and till today I'm trying to get it back. I contacted them several times, but no one ever made a move towards refunding. We even tried to ask hostelworld, the platform we booked with. They tried to help us, but couldn't change make a change. This is a nightmare!!! Its outrages. I'm a student and I'm relying on this money!

I took a gamble and it paid off. I typically stay in high end hotels when I travel. I stayed at the Adrian while in town for a conference. I had read the reviews previously and had a good understanding of what I was getting into and had faith in the adventure. I got in late-ish and had to call to get situated. I eventually did. Over the course of my week long stay I got to talk with the staff while they were repairing some fire damage. Note: they were the ones working with their own two hands to keep this place going. And why that’s important I’ll get to in a moment. While staying at the Adrian I learned some things about the part of city where this hotel sits. It is the part of town where poverty and all of its problems have taken a strong hold of the people. To the point where hope is all but lost for the people that live in this part of town. And in a city that is so wealthy people ignore it and turn their backs on people. This hotel is rough on the surface. It’s certainly not a five-star hotel. But, while talking to the staff I learned that the hotel dedicates a portion of its facilities and resources to helping those in need. By offering them a place to live, access to rehabilitation and employment opportunities. In a city that could do so much the Adrian is truly trying help people. And trying to keep things together. Which is more than many other establishments. Because of this I will keep coming to the Adrian and even if I don’t stay I’ll keep spending my money with them to see them succeed. Tips: There are several really good mom and pop places to eat within walking distance. Indian, Mexican, Japanese etc. I’m a 6 ft 300 lbs black man so I wasn’t worried walking around alone. But if you aren’t comfortable take a friend. Right around the corner is a really good craft beer place / comedy bar. Bring flip flops/ shower shoes. Remember people are human. And you don’t know what they’ve been through. So be kind.

I wish I had read these reviews before booking through my company hotel portal. I arrived late at night and no one was even in the office to check me in. There was a Post It note to call Robert. I luckily got in touch with him and he came out to tell me he had my reservation, but had overbooked the “hotel” and that I would need to go to another hotel. When NexTravel called the hotel to try and confirm a refund, The Adrian hotel will lie and say the stay was completed and a refund will not be processed. I hope you read through all of these reviews and Do NOT book this hotel. You will be scammed! And if you’re not, it sounds like it’s a disgusting place to stay. I can also confirm that the neighborhood is super sketchy and not safe.

I have emailed several times to cancel a reservation I have for September 2018 as I can no longer make it due to unforeseen circumstances and no one is replying to my emails, also called the phone number on the website and keeps saying the number has been disconnected. I am guessing this place is not running as a hotel and I will most likely be charged for a booking I am trying to cancel well in advance of the dates and will not actually be physically using the booking. I advise everyone to avoid this place as I am having serious difficulties just getting in contact with them.

Last summer, we arrived here and our room had been double booked, in the middle of the night we had to find somewhere else and the guy at the desk STILL BILLED HOTELS.COM FOR OUR "STAY". This hotel is in Tenderloin the roughest area in San Fran so avoid. We were even greeted by someone completely off their face in the lobby dressed as Jean Simmons. Luckily, after 3 months, we got our money back from hotels.com, but by far it was a blessing in disguise having to find somewhere else to stay. AVOID, you will get nothing good by staying here, spend more and stay out of this area.

Response from Tony B, Manager at Adrian Hotel
Responded 1 Mar 2018
Dear Holly, We sincerely apologize for what has happened to you to have such a negative experience. This incident occurred before we took over. We absolutely agree that this should never happen. As the new management we are excited to be part of this beautiful Art Deco hotel. We are focused on implementing a whole new set of standards that will take the living experience at The Adrian to another level. Our friendly staff will provide a warm welcome at check in with the hope you settle in and enjoy the newly renovated hotel. Yes we are in the heart of the high energy, unvarnished Tenderloin - the forefront of the SF Vibe and technology center of the world. Yes we are on the fringe where music, thought, design, creativity and global movers live and interact with a very diverse, open, liberal presence. We are proud of the this - who we are and where we are. Again we apologize and hope you return to enjoy the positive changes. Kind regards Tony B
