Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I tried two rooms in Tower 1.... both equally bad. This hotel is old, outdated, and best to be avoided. Rooms are disgusting. As a Diamond HHonors member, this isn't a hotel worth staying at. 1970 wants it hotel back. Go anyplace else.

Everyone, from check-in to check-out, has been super friendly and eager to please. Any request we had, they were on top of it. The central location made it very easy to get around the city and any questions we had, the concierge was ready with plenty of info. We had an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge from our room. Would definitely stay here again.

Responded 10 May 2022
Thank you for your kind review, Roberto! It's wonderful that you had such great interactions with our staff, we think they're the best! So delighted you were able to get out and explore San Francisco with us as your home base in the city. Our views are second to none - thrilled you enjoyed them. We hope you come back to visit soon.

Hilton San Francisco Union Square HHonors Rewards stay for 2 (value $138) Parking $72.10 ($65 + service charge) Buffet breakfast for 2 at Poached $115 without tip Net result: Breakfast and Parking cost ~150% of the room rate! Bigger problem: no information about pricing, in writing or verbally. Hilton's entrance to parking garage has NO signs posted, and at check-in the staff simply said "your room key will get you out of the garage." The poached restaurant menu posted in our room and online showed reasonable per-plate charges of $14-22. However, when we arrived this menu didn't exist....only the buffet which was not on the menu and had an unposted price. Apparently that price is~55/plate + service fee + gratuity. I called in to give feedback. The person I spoke with "apologized for my frustrations." I live in San Francisco so I know you can get better parking rates and much better food for these prices. If you stay at this hotel, leave your car at home and eat elsewhere.

This is a great location just blocks from Union Square. There are a number of bars and restaurants within walking distance. The room was clean and fairly updated. The Cityscapes bar on the 46th floor offers amazing views of the city. The drink prices are a little on the high side, but that's SF and you're definitely paying for the views. The fitness center was one of the best I've been in. Plenty of equipment - including mats, hand weights, etc. I do think they could do a better job cleaning the floor in there, but it's really a good size with a good selection of equipment. The coffee shop/market in the lobby offered a good selection for lite breakfast items and snacks. There is a $25 daily "resort fee" but it can be applied to food and drinks. The parking is insanely expensive - $100/day. I get parking is a premium in DT SF, but that feels like gouging.

The staff at the Hilton Union Square was excellent and responded quickly to any requests or questions. I had read other reviews and did not know what to expect with the hotel and the city. I felt safe at all times and I really did not see a homeless problem that was any worse than any other large American city. The hotel was clean and convenient as a base in the city. Room was excellent and comfortable. It would be nice to have more dining options inside the hotel but overall it was a great visit.

It was a great experience. I was in town for a conference and enjoyed the comfortable accommodations at this Hilton. I was a bit surprised by the $25 fee each day but was able to apply that to breakfast in the open cafe in the lounge. I ate at Poach but that was a bit underwhelming and quite expensive.

I was happy with the hotel until I saw I was charged $50 for a 10min phone call. I used the room phone to make one urgent international call. I was expecting something high like a $20 bill but the final amount was simply beyond my imagination. Two notes to the Hilton team: 1. Make it clear on your website/on the phone how much your guests will be charged. The information simply could not be found. 2. Send your guests the receipts ASAP. I only found out when I saw the charge to my card, and then only after I called, I got my receipt.

We stayed at Hilton for ten nights as my husband had an international meeting there. He also had some days off from work so we needed some advise what to do in San Francisco. I discussed many times with the concierge Ken who was a great person and very helpful with everything we needed to know. Ken was really "there for you"! I appreciate a lot his help and attitude.

Nice room, great base to explore from. Comfortable bed, fab shower. Lobby coffee shop stupidly expensive! Nice but deffo head out to Starbucks for much much better value. Highlight.. Stunning bar on the top floor with gorgeous cocktails and even better views and also really easy to park at the main entrance to load your luggage. Quiet and great nights sleep. Overall spot on for a couple of nights stay!
