Had to move from another hotel due to lack of heat in the previous hotel. Have to say, the reception and the management was very welcoming and friendly, rooms were great, there was some construction noise but overall this hotel I would recommend.

Absolute wonderful hotel! It's right by several bus stops and is a short ride to Fisherman's Wharf and AT&T Park. The front desk staff is amazing. They were super friendly, gave great food recommendations that were NOT chain restaurants, and helped arrange my shuttle to and from the airport. They are also very knowledgeable about the bus system and can...

Thank you so much for taking the time to write about and rate your stay at our hotel. Independent hotels such as outs can be helped greatly by guest reviews. They let other people know what we are doing right and they let us know what we need to improve upon. I'm glad you found the staff friendly and helpful....

San Francisco hotels are pricey... and some of the inexpensive ones you really don't want to be at. The Opal was affordable and elegant. A lovely old building, well maintained, comfortable, quiet, well-appointed rooms, a good bed. Coffee and tea in the lobby. Very basic complimentary breakfast, just a bit of something in your belly. I stayed in a queen...

Thank you for your kind review of our humble hotel. Guest comments are one of the best tools we have to let people know about our hotel or to let us know what we need to work on. I appreciate all the good things you said and we hope to see you again the next time you visit the city.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 days in December 2016. First off, I should note-its actually handicap accessible (not the hotel that says they are-only three steps!) The roll in shower is legit; not barrier to step over. All the doors, including in the hallway, are accessible. The sink is a bit high for a standard wheelchair. There...

Staying at The Opal is like taking a trip back in time. Built in 1908, this historic structure features period wallpaper in the rooms and a baby grand piano in the lobby. The rooms are cozy and clean, and guests can use the microwave in the breakfast room any time of day or night. It's super convenient to buses and...

I congratulate and thanks Claudia from the front desk! We didn't do the check out on time and she did it for us packing our things and kept the luggage in a safe room until we came back in the hotel. I was really surprise and it was a relieved finding my things in good order and she was not...

My husband and I had a great stay at the Opal in SF! Marnie checked us in and even upgraded our room. We were in SF for a hospital visit so the kindness shown to us was extra special. The room was great, clean, comfortable and spacious! Much thanks, we will definitely stay there on our next visit.

The hotel is old and worn. The carpets were very dirty and worn out in our room. The bathroom tile was also grungy in the corners. It was quiet at night. The breakfast was a decent continental buffet. Coffee was available in the lobby also.

Very nice- quiet rooms- view of the downtown. Lots of privacy. Tommys across the street is a great place to eat any time of day. Close to bus and trolley pickup- Not too far from the action - but far enough to have some quiet time.
