Indeed. If not for the concierge horror show, I would have given this hotel a 4/5 rating. Lets get the good out of the way first shall we? Rooms were large, sleep quality was good, toilet was clean, shower was enjoyable...well basically whatever you would have expected out of a Holiday Inn chain of hotels. But a few horror shows:...

This was our first visit to San Francisco and noticed that there was a big difference in rates between various zones in the city. Also, we had no idea where to stay for our 5- night stay, so we were a bit nervous. So, on the downside: the hotel, with no grounds of its own, doesn't have a particular 'holiday'...

Stayed in SF for a big conference at the Moscone Center. This hotel is within walking distance of the MC, although there are closer hotels (and at night we were not particularly fancying walking down Market Street, so we took taxis). Has everything you may need, compared to considerably more expensive hotels in the area, including a restaurant (with breakfast...

Upon first look the room was nice. However we complained 3x about someone smoking (this is a non smoking hotel). Our room was near the stair well so we assume someone was smoking out there but the smell seeped into our room. They did offer us another room but who wants to change rooms after unpacking two heavy suitcases? Another...

Clean, quiet, comfortable room in well-maintained hotel just off Market Street. The staff is friendly and helpful. The beds are comfortable. Security is very good. The hotel is only four or five blocks from the Davies Symphony Hall, so it was an easy and convenient walk.

I stay in a lot of hotels so know they are not Always what them seem when you check out the bathrooms. This hotel was very very clean! And the front desk staff is very accommodating. We had a mix up in our reservations. (My bosses fault, not the hotels) and they were happy to help us sort it out....

First time staying at Holiday Inn Civic Center. I thought the hotel itself was fine, lobby/desk area was nice, bar staff was friendly and the rooms were fine, unfortunately the area the hotel is in lacked the "San Francisco feel" and once you stepped outside, not great. I think for business travelers this hotel is fine, vacationing families may want...

We stayed in this hotel as part of an organised Western US tour. The hotel itself is fine with modern rooms and facilities including an outdoor swimming pool. The only issue we had was the area itself is not the best with a number of people sleeping on the streets around the outside of the hotel and the immediate side...

Found the hotel and staff to be most accommodating. Excellent location. We were concerned after reading reviews about the amount of homeless people in the area...but not once were we hassled. Easy to get down to the waterfront on the tram. Disappointed that our stay had to come to an end...but hopefully one day we will be back.

Not luxury. But a solid three star hotel. Right next to Civic Center. So not the snazzy hotel area but very convenient. Comfortable furnishings. I would stay again especially since less expensive than many.

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
