We weren't in San Fran long enough to know how close amenities were as we caught Ubers everywhere but service was amazing. Staff were awesome, the room was modern, there was a courtyard at the back with a lit up fire pit which our group used a lot when we stayed there. Probably the best hotel we stayed at during...

My wife and I decided to spend a night here and go see a show at the nearby Fillmore Theater. It's an easy 5-10min walk. The front desk service was friendly and helpful. The complimentary wine and sake happy hour was nice but cramped in the small lobby. Not a big deal as we took ours with us to our...

Excellent, safe location in Japantown away from the craziness of Union Square and downtown SF. This area is very walkable, even at night, with great restaurants, jazz clubs, a Whole Foods Market, and more within easy walking distance. The Japan mall is also right across the street where you can buy authentic Japanese goods, books, sweets, food, clothing, etc. It's...

Hi, KaD796, and thanks so much for your review! We have just installed new suction fans for bathroom exhaust which should help with that issue. As for the hallways, the carpet and pad was new at the end of our recent renovation, and I am not detecting a smell at this time, so I am thinking that you might have...

The Kimpton Buchanan claims to be your Pied-à-terre in San Francisco. Having always wanted an apartment in the city, I decided to test that claim. I will explain my criteria below, but: TL:DR - they make good on the claim with a couple of minor caveats. For more detail, read on: First, since they admit upfront that they are not...

Hello, SFTraveler009, and thank you so much for coming to visit us in the "Magical" part of town. Due to our union situation, I don't have a quick fix for glassware and mugs, though we can always have robes delivered upon request. They are a lovely shibori print cotton that ties in with the design of the room! As for...

Everything was great at the Kimpton except the fan in the bathroom was running continuously. We reported the problem and a service man was there promptly the next morning to repair. Unfortunately he made it worse. We did not report it again as we were leaving soon. We would definitely go back to the Kimpton. Good location and service was...

Hi, Bernadine d, and my apologies about that bathroom fan in room 704. I'm glad that you were still such a happy camper with the location, service, and happy hour that you say you'll definitely be coming back :).

We have stayed a couple nights at this Kimpton in SF, and also the other I reviewed "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly." This one is by FAR the better of the two properties. It's in Japantown, so who doesn't love staying across the street from great Ramen and sushi options? Neighborhood super clean, and hotel and staff were...

Woohooo! Thanks so much, Kohbul. That is so funny, "airy" is how I always describe the rooms myself. Anyhow, I'm glad you were impressed by the hotel and I have already given a shout-out to Rey and made sure his direct manager knows that he and the team were so great. Thanks for taking the time to recognize him!

I had hesitated to stay here since it changed from Hotel Tomo (Joie de Vivre) into The Buchanan (Kimpton). I wish I hadn't waited that long. The new decor is tasteful and modern. The beds were comfortable as were the linens. The amenities were adequate.

Thanks for coming to see our rebirth as the Buchanan! We are pleased with how the new décor shows hints of both Japantown and Pacific Heights without being too "theme-y" And, yes, you're right, the top-to-bottom renovation did include all new mattresses, which are that Kimpton Sealy pillowtop. Come back and see us again!

My husband and I had the most amazing stay at the Kimpton in Japantown. We LOVED the location (not a major tourist trap), the hotel was also clean and stylish. The hotel staff went above and beyond to respond to any requests.

The location was fabulous for us; it's a short walk to Fillmore Street, and a fairly short Uber ride to most places we visited. It borders on Japantown.
