It was really difficult finding affordable accommodation in San Francisco, but Pacific Tradewinds did the trick! You can easily walk to Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square from the hostel, as well as easy access to buses and the BART. There seemed to be a nice community feel too, I would definitely consider staying there again on my next visit to...

Pacific Tradewinds has a lovely vibe. They have free sock washing. They give you a towel to use. They have lots of freebies like random shampoos and body wash. Earplugs are also free and essential for snoring neighbours, which I had. They also let me play the guitar. Once you get over the occasionally arduous flights of stairs, the spontaneous...

Great place to stay! It was my first solo trip and time in a hostel but I had an awesome time largely thanks to the hostel and the amazing people there! The place was clean and the beds were comfy, and having a kitchen was very handy.

Pacific Tradewinds Hostel may be small in size but it is huge on service, cleanliness, atmosphere and location. As an older couple we were worried about how we would fit it, but we were made so welcome and had an awesome time! We would recommend this to all who are doing SF on a budget. A big thank you to...

In short, the world would be a spectacularly better place if all hostels were like Pacific Tradewinds! Unlike so many other hostels which afflict the planet, Pacific Tradewinds has the ability to make you feel part of the family - be it through the events they organise or the ad-hoc social get together which spring up in the common room....

First off, the neighbourhood is great and the hostel is easy to get to - it's right between Chinatown and the financial district, which is safe and there are loads of things to see just a short walk away. It's only about five minutes to where the cable cars stop too :) As soon as I walked into the hostel,...

Staying in Financial District

Neighbourhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
