Firstly, I believe a lot of the people who booked this naively thought this was an actual hotel, hence the overwhelmingly bad reviews. My boyfriend and I are currently backpacking the states so this room was the cheapest private room in central San Francisco (hostels turned out to be more expensive). So generally, upon arrival and discovering it was more...

I dont recommend this place. Find something else.. If you do go to this hostel BUY EARPLUGS (I found them in a local Chinese supermaket nearby, take the strongest ones 30db.) even then we could still hear the street with the windows closed. You should know that it is located above a stripclub. Not sure if it is 1 or...

We choose the Hotel Europa because of the fact that all main attractions were about 15 minutes to walk away. We did not have a car while in San Francisco and relied on being able to reach everything within walking distance. The Bart Station to get to the airport was about 15 minutes walking distance also. The hotel is nestled...

My wife and I purposely chose this hotel because of the low price compared to other hotel within walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf. The room was clean, and there was a sink and TV in the room, but that was about all the good I can say. The separate men's and women's restrooms are down the hall and only moderately...

Good location in San Fran but even the rooms with private bathrooms are very basic, hostel not hotel standard in my opinion. We were in a twin room on the interior side of the building. Room got incredibly hot during the day even in the latter part of September with the window open. (Once the building maintenance man had managed...

Upon arrival at the Europa hotel my friend and I were happy with the hotel's location as there are lots of bars local (some porno!). When we got into our room we quickly realised that there was no wifi. The room also had an odd smell and the window was wide open. However there was a nice big tv and...

Dirty (showers, bed coversheet etc.), very old & partly broken furniture & equipment (for example coffee machine), extremely loud & noisy (street/neighbourhood). Good location: lots of cafes, restaurants, Fishermen's Wharf in walking distance. Way too expensive!!!

This hotel is not super new or something, defo place to feel the old times. But as me and my friends were following beatnicks through the area I think it is a good place, good location, close to nice bars. I think that the price is relatively good for that hotel. Don't expect luxury, but decent enough.

The location is pretty good, but the rooms and bathrooms are disgusting and not cleaned very well. I would recommend finding somewhere else to stay. It is also pretty expensive considering the very low standards.

Horrible, dirty, nasty and the rudest people. Internet sucked, placed smelled of marijuana the whole time, no hot water, no AC, no heat, no elevator, lots of stairs no help from anyone. Faucet about to fall off, window would not open, paper thin walls you hear everything, in strip joint district. Don't waste your time they don't care at all...

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
