I found that San Fran had very expensive hotels then came across this one. For just under $90 a night inc taxes (4 nights) for such a central place this was greatly priced. I was worried that it would be an issue to find but it's just to the right of 'Bartlett hall'. I got the BART train from the airport fairly late, around 10:30pm and it was just up the road from the Powell stop. Check in was smooth with a friendly receptionist. I was however given 4 different keycards 3 of which were completely blank. 1 keycard for the room, 1 for the toilet, 1 for the shower and 1 which was the passcode to the in-pod safe. It did get confusing, surely there's an easier way. I was on the fifth floor and didn't mind using the stairs most of the time, the elevator did indeed seem quite old but it was kind of an entertainment in itself. I found the pod very comfortable and cozy with a nice, soft mattress and a good pillow. It was just a sheet for a cover but I was happy with that. It was a bit hot as I arrived but they did provide USB fans in the room to use as I found the fans in the pod moved so little air they were almost useless. I had an upper pod by the window so would usually wake up much cooler. Whilst the pods did have multiple plug connections, the British one wouldn't fit, if you pushed it too hard the lights would start turning on and off, so just stuck to an American adapter. I would recommend using earplugs if you're situated by the front as there's a bar opposite which got a little noisy. In the 4 nights I stayed there, I didn't meet a single person in my room, though did hear people. Even though there was a single toilet and shower for the floor, I never had an issue with them being busy. I did however have issues with which key card to use. They were generally clean and they provide shower gel/shampoo/conditioner which makes it easier to travel light.…
My 4D3N stay was great. Located within Bartlett Hotel, you check in with the Bartlett staff at the lobby before taking the rickety lift up. I arrived at 11.30am but was allowed to check in immediately which was a huge positive as I just arrived from a nearly 15 hour flight. The pod as well as the room was really clean, but was surprised that there was neither a fan nor air con. Nevertheless, SF’s summer feels like an Australian winter so it wasn’t a big deal. The pod was spacious enough that I only bumped my head once in the four days there. The positives - Location, location, location. 5 minutes walk to Powell Street BART/subway, cable car terminus, buses, light rail etc. - Safe location, some homeless begging and some mentally unsound people harassing diners, but just ignore them, they’re harmless folks. - Price, can’t be beaten in that area - Receptionist were pretty friendly and helpful till the last night, read below. - Shampoo and soap all provided. - Hot water shower - Privacy despite being a hostel styled environment. - Locks for luggage and locked cabinets for bags, and a small safe in the pod itself to put passport, cash and etc. - A wash basin in each room The negatives that was a bit of a turn off.. - Pub opposite the building. Can get noisy. - No bath rug at the shower. Surprised no one left a trail of wet foot prints. - Single shower room shared about six rooms (and probably 24 people at full capacity?) - Single toilet shared by the six rooms, and the guests of Bartlett. Really... also got filthy on my last night there. - I think the guests in the next room were smoking weed while blasting their music - Receptionist on the last night (9th June) was terrible. She couldn’t really help other guests with their queries. I asked for a new towel for showering and when I was about to use it, I realised she had given me a floor rug. …
Easy check in and the location is excellent. The rooms are inside the Bartlett Hotel - it's old, but has an elevator. The bunk beds are actually enclosed pods, so you get privacy, but the room itself is small and it's just big enough to walk around in but that's it. I booked an all female dormitory. That night, a guy came in and I was confused. I told him he was entering an all female dorm and to ask the staff if they were mistaken. He didn't return, but I was annoyed by that - I mean, the staff should keep track of this! The next morning, 7 am, a guy comes into the room (doesn't knock), OPENS my pod (I could've been sleeping naked! WTF?!) and because it's loud when you open it, woke me the F up! He apologized and said he was checking to see which pods needed to be cleaned. NOT COOL!!! Who the F is managing this place?! At 8 a.m., I turn on the water to take a shower. The water was COLD for about 5 minutes and it eventually got warm but not hot. On the plus side, the bathroom is stocked with shampoo, conditioner, soap and hair dryer, BUT no bath rug! Umm, do you expect your guests to come out of the shower completely dry? The bed is comfortable, but they don't provide blankets, just a sheet. The room was clean and my pod was clean. Had it not been for my experience, I'm sure the place would be fine to stay at, but I'm not sure if I will return.…
The pod was cozy and private. The 24 hour front desk keeps my luggage after I checked out, which was convenient. A locker is a bit small but I was able to put in my backpack and computer to secure. Really close to everything in San Francisco. I did not know that there was a communal kitchen and lounge at the second floor at some point of my stay. Overall, it was great!
The location was just great. Really close to Union Square, restaurants, bars and cable cars, literally everything! I was out touring most of the time so it was perfect for me to come back and just sleep in a pod. Pod was big enough for me and felt comfortable even though there are multiple people sleep in the same room as a dormitory. this is great for solo traveler like me!
Clean and tidy room and pod. There is the communal kitchen/ lounge area where I could buy some food and eat at 2nd floor too. This was a good way to stay affordable and be close to the center of San Francisco.
I stayed at one of the pods and had an amazing time. The pods are extremely clean and cozy, and this hotel was in a very central location in SF. The check-in process was easy and straightforward as well. The pod was clean and tidy as well. I would definitely stay here again.
Futuristic but comfortable pod hotel in a fantastic location, the center of SF. Many bars and restaurants are nearby. It was easy check-in and out process. I was able to put my personal belongings in a locker and safe, which makes it feel safer.
I stayed at Pod Room before at another property in SF and I liked it ,so I decided to stay with them at their new property. In a pod, you can turn off all the lights and have complete darkness. Pod and bathroom were very clean and well-maintained. Loved it and highly recommend them!
