They lie!!! there is no one there, even if you arrive before 5 and I dont think there has been for awhile so forget about someone to answers questions, be able to grab a map, organize laundry or even be able to store luggage if you have a late flight out! You find out AFTER you have climb the stairs, then pull your bags back down, around the corner and up the hill to the other hotel - not happy with liars!!! There is also no air con, no drinking glasses or even paper cups, no hairdryer, no tissues - nothing! One small that gets full very quickly with no housekeeping but no idea where else to put the rubbish myself as no one to ask! Remote for TV was so bad I was climbing up the wall trying to change stations! Some good point for this hotel but Im not giving them any credit
I recently stayed at the Bartlett hotel for a work conference and then stayed a few days afterwards to do some sightseeing. The location is perfect - only 5-10 minutes walk from Moscone West conference centre, a 2 minute walk from Union square and very close to nearby buses / trams. The tram from the airport take 30 minutes and stops 5 minutes walk away from the hotel. My room was very spacious, light and sunny, and the bed was very comfortable. There was a sink inside the room but the toilet / shower was separate and shared. Overall I found the shared facilities (kitchen and bathroom) to be basic however they were clean and in good working order. The only things I’d mention were the occasional smell of smoke in the corridors and sometimes there was noise at night from the Irish pub across the street. Overall a good price for a really lovely room, welcoming staff and a perfect location!…
My daughter & I stayed here a week during COVID before my girl went into essential housing for her university. The safety precautions were outstanding and the manager Patricia was exceptionally great at her job. Always helping point us in the right direction, I even locked my key in the room at 3 am before my departing flight and I was able to call her & she was able to get maintenance to let me in my room not missing my flight. I am an owner/operator of a hotel in Costa Rica. To have a front desk manager as responsible and excellent at her job defines the service during these very difficult times. The hotel is clean and incredibly well run. I can't rate this hotel high enough !!! Outstanding service !!! The only negative is the uneasy feeling of so many street people out front. This takes some getting used too! and I hope San Fransico can one day address this problem for this beautiful city!:)…
Redone in a trendy industrial style, this no frills option is in the heart of the city. Two blocks up from PowellStation, it’s an easy trek with a suitcase. No hair dryer in the room, and limited towels available, but a great value for the location. All in all a great stay with the Pinecrest Diner around the corner for a hearty breakfast.
Was staying overnight for business. Check-in was efficient and trouble-free. Pleasantly surprised by how bright and clean the room is. I would describe the room as hipster-minimalism. Lots of pipe fixtures and reclaimed wood. The location was near Union Square and Market Street. There was lots of easy walking shopping and food nearby. One small thing was missing. There were no cups/glasses in the room. I had to ask for some at reception. I'd stay here again.
Bottom line: affordable option at a great location. Read the cons, and if they are something you're ok with go for it ;-) Pros: 1. I could not find any other reasonably rated hotel at a price below $150-$200, at least in the dates I needed. 2. The location is right by union square. Close to everything. Also from a safety perspective, especially if you're travelling alone (a few blocks further from union square it gets less friendly). 3. Spacious room, well heated in the winter, has a safe. 4. My room was facing the back and was super quiet. Cons: 1. Low water pressure, at least in the room where I was staying 2. The bathroom had a funny smell at the beginning. Not sure the source, maybe the pipes. I left the vent on even when I was out of the room and after a few hours it passed. 3. Very basic mattress, not the most comfortable. 4. They will not accept a credit card for deposit and payment when checking out. Payment needs to be done on check in or when booking. Even though these three things I am giving a high rating to the place because none of the cons bothered me too much and I think there's good value for money here. …
Room was fine, clean, cosy and quiet at night (on the top floor). WiFi seemed to work well. Location was decent for Union square and shopping. Provided a baby cot fine. Missing the little touches to make it anything more than a 3* review. No fridges in rooms or anything really apart from a bed. Would it hurt to put a couple of glasses (paper ones even) in the room for drinks ? As has been commented, it’s tough to get accommodation in San Fran at a reasonable price so you’re always going to feel you’ve paid through the nose for something very basic! Room was fine but don’t expect anything fancy.
This budget hotel tries to evoke the style of a budget hotel circa 1900. While the room was clearly refurbished recently, the style was minimalist and industrial. The room was actually quite big, and I even had access to the old timey fire escape! Honestly, I much prefer this to some fancy hotel. The room was also quite quiet for being just a block off of Union Square; I slept really well. It was perfect for what I needed.
Cockroaches (see pics), hair in bed, dirty towels and awful service. Derrick at front desk didn’t even look up from his phone when talking to me. Yeah, you can drop your price and people will always stay here but if you actually made an effort this place could be passable and you could charge more. AVOID!!
I had three nights at this hotel at end of Aug 2019 on my way home from the UK. I really enjoyed my stay at this budget hotel right in the central of downtown SF. The Barlett Hotel is very close to the Powell St Station, which is a convenient stop for all travellers going to or from the SFO Airport by BART train. All other buses are nearby. This hotel is just a standard, simple, no fuss accomodation though very tidy & clean. The hotel's only lift is very accient and hot! I had to move room during my short stay and both of my rooms were clean, spacious, airy and well lit. The room had a nice queen size bed, various pillows, tv and with wash basins. Both rooms had oldfashion central heater but no A/C though the first room had a ceilling fan but my second room had none. The window was easily opened for fresh air though was a bit noisy with the street noise. Hotel's staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel's WIFI was great and was accessable in the room. Free Breakfast only for any booking directly from the hotel's website. My free breakfast and its simple varieties were very good and satisfied. If I visit San Francisco again, I would stay at this hotel again for its excellent location, friendly service, cleanliness and affordable price.…
