Great location really close to Union square, rooms are very clean and beds are great. Rooms are ok size. No restaurant at all at the moment, not even for breakfast. There is a place next door though that does all day and evening meals. Provides tea and coffee and cooler water on the ground floor by the bar area, nothing in the rooms like that at all. Also provides complimentary cookies and some apples and plums to take away. In the evening popcorn as well by the bar which is open in the late afternoons onwards. No gym or access to gym either at the moment.

We spent two weeks on the west coast of the USA in various places and this hotel was by far the best of the lot! The hotel has thought of every little touch, not only toiletries but shower caps, two luggage racks, a free water refill station and free tea and coffee machines at reception. In the morning fresh complimentary cookies are put out at reception and in the afternoon there is the cutest popcorn stand (also complimentary)! There is also free fruit available. The room isn’t the biggest but it was very comfortable and had a nice view towards union square. The location of the hotel is great, near to all the shops and near to the hop on hop off stop in union square. The cable car stop is also located very nearby. The staff were very friendly and we had our room cleaned daily (many other hotels don’t seem to offer this). Overall, a lovely stay and we would definitely come back here!

The Chancellor Hotel was so charming! The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the location was smack bang in the centre of San Francisco, and so handy for getting to other parts of the city. The rooms were small, but perfectly formed - every detail in the room had been thought through. For example, the wardrobe area was huge, meaning we could fit our 6 pieces of luggage in there without it getting in the way of the space in the room. There were some candies, which was a nice touch, a pillow menu, and a great tv with an array of channels. We loved our stay and can’t wait to return. The Irish barman makes a great cocktail as well!

Everything from reception to departure seamless Every employee we met friendly and professional. Nice extras such as bath salts in room and cookies in lobby. Enjoyed the lobby bar also. Our room was a tad small but perfect. Highly recommend.

Great value with nice little touches like coffee, tea, cookies, popcorn, apples and water in the lobby. Very nice little modern room with the assortment of candies. Large tub with bath salts and a rubber ducky. Great service and all in the heart of the city.

On arrival after a very long flight we were greeted and asked how are journey had been, we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and not sure if this is why but we were upgraded to a suite which was very nice. We had two bathrooms, bedroom and a small lounge. Our room had a coffee maker in it but down in reception there was always hot coffee, hot water , fresh cold water, cookies and fresh fruit. Staff very friendly throughout our stay and everything you needed was in walking distance

Stayed here for three nights. The location is great. Hotel staff were friendly. Rooms are what you would expect in an old San Francisco hotel, teeny tiny. I stayed with my sister and we are small so it was not a problem for us, we were comfortable. The cable car dropped us off right in front of the hotel. You can walk to restaurants and shops.

We found the hotel to be very comfortable, nice bedroom with a modern period feel - really great location, especially to catch the cable car around the city. The hotel itself, being the reception, bar and general public areas are not fancy at all, but for the price we paid, it is the best value hotel 'nice' in the area

My expectations were low for a small, old hotel with what passes in SF for a reasonable price, but I was pleasantly surprised. OK, it's a postage-stamp size room, it's hard to access the electric outlets, and there are no amenities to speak of -- no lobby, bar, restaurant, etc. But the room was clean and comfortable, there was free parking at a garage around the corner, and the location on Union Square across the street from the St. Francis Hotel is very good. So, all in all, it is a good choice.
