Basically, we were very satisfied. I deliberately place only the weak points so that the hotel can improve. Somehow, the four stars do not fit the offer. Table tennis table in the lobby does not match the ambience. Questions about the tourist offer of SanFran are referred to the Internet. It does not have a tour desk. Breakfast is good quality. If you don't want such large portions, it's not possible to order just a single pancake or waffle. Either the whole portion or nothing. Great Job by Raffy: He took the cab order and exactly at the time Joyce from SF Limo Golden Sucess drove up. An absolutely sympathetic, good driver with a wonderful car. Absolutely recommended Picture: great view out of Room 1035
We stayed at the Mark Hopkins to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful, Al the doorman was so friendly and welcoming, as well as the manager who checked us in and upgraded us to a lovely corner suite. Bellman was very helpful and friendly as well. We had Champagne and appetizers at the Top of the Mark and received complementary desert and coffee. The room was extremely comfortable and clean with a beautiful view of the city and the bay. Housekeeping was excellent! Thank you to the wonderful staff for a very special stay for our anniversary!
We have visited this wonderful hotels annually until covid hit; this was the first return visit. The hotel is still the great grande Dame it has always been. The rooms are beautifully appointed; the beds very comfortable; the bathroom very acceptable. The staff could not have been nicer or more informative. Unfortunately we could only stay one night as we motored on to vineyards and redwoods. Look forward to next year!
Back in the day this was a grand place. But when I recently tried to make a reservation looking for a very upscale room for our anniversary, what torture. I felt like I was working with some flea bag motel. After over an hour with a res person who was as close to clueless as one can get, I gave up and called the Hotel directly. Then I got a guy named Michael who I guess was working the switchboard. Wow, if he is the caliber of employees on site - I would be scared to stay. Tried to get to a manager - more torture. Bottom line, I gave up and am glad I did because when I looked closer and ratings it is clear that it is not a first class hotel anymore. Ah for the good ol days. Bottom line: be prepared to be tortured if you seek a res at this dusty old place.
The wife and I stayed at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins in San Francisco for three nights in July as a part of a 2-week California trip. We were pleasantly surprised by the condition of this historic building and more so with the location. The hotel is located in Nob Hill where some of the best hotels in San Francisco can be found. We felt extremely safe walking around to the different restaurants for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Our room was classy, clean and the bed super comfy. I sleep better with firm pillows and asked for some and were quickly provided with them. I also want to thank Robyn who was always very gracious to my wife and I each time we arrived or left the hotel. Overall, we could stay here again.
We stayed one night when we had family visiting. The hotel is ideally situated so many things are a short walk or taxi ride away. The hotel is beautiful and oozes “old San Francisco” charm and grace. It’s a very quiet hotel which we liked, and the rooms are very comfortable. We also enjoyed a drink at the Top of the Mark which was a real treat!
Location is not great, because it sits at the top of the hill it's very difficult to walk to and from. The exterior and lobby are beautiful, but the rooms are nothing special. Certainly not worth the price. We were offered to upgrade our room with a view which we decided to, but that also wasn't worth it. To the man in the next room who woke us up, I could hear your whole business conversation because the walls are paper thin. We thought the check-in process went well; however, when we were charged extra after our stay we questioned it as the fees were a surprise to us. The 3rd party told us a fee may apply (for a hotel with NO amenities). The fees weren't brought up at check-in so we assumed there wasn't one (shame on me for assuming). I later learned all hotels in SF do this but for the sake of customer service, it would have been nice to know upfront. (Every hotel in Vegas tells you this, they could learn a thing or two from them.) When I called the hotel and asked about it the gentleman wasn't friendly when I asked why I wasn't made aware before and he told me "well you couldn't cancel it anyway when you found out about the resort fee". When I asked about why the resort fees were charged there, he didn't give me an answer and just talked over me. The only thing they have going for them is the Top of the Mark, the views were incredible. Overall, the experience wasn't great and wasn't worth the money we paid.…
As an IHG Ambassador, we were allocated room 1625, an accessible room with a sun lounge, giving panoramic views of the city. This was one of the highlights of this hotel, even though we didn’t utilise it fully. The Lounge access was part of the restaurant and it wasn’t fully clear what was included drinks wise. It was closed on Sunday so we were given vouchers for drinks and appetisers in the Top of the Mark. Whilst walking through the city (I think on Polk St), we were stopped by a member of staff from the restaurant area and his friend, who’d recognised us. He then gave us some great suggestions of where to visit and it was really helpful. I hope someone can identify that member of the team. I’d definitely stay again when returning to the city. All the staff were really nice.…
If you want character, charm and friendly helpful staff this is the hotel for you. It’s based centrally so a 10min downhill walk to union square or a lovely 30mins walk to fisherman’s wharf… might need Uber back steep climb otherwise…the roof top bar although expensive is worth a visit with amazing views across San Fran…perfect for couples who are passing through…
The area around the Mark Hopkins is one of San Francisco's most beautiful. But unfortunately, because the Mark Hopkins sits on one of the city's highest hills, it's a very difficult walk to the hotel from the great sites nearby--and I love to walk! You can grab a cable car for the few blocks it takes to get to the M.H. from Chinatown or Union Square, or for the longer trips from the Ferry Building or Ghirardelli, which is fun. Be aware, however, that no matter the length of the trip, even if it's just a couple of blocks, the fee to ride a cable car is always a standardized $8.00 per person. I also love staying at historic hotels and understand that frequently means accepting small rooms and bathrooms. But the rooms and bathrooms at the Mark Hopkins are really unappealing. Also, they have thin walls. You can hear someone talking the next room, even if they are speaking at a normal volume. I don't think that we'll stay there again. Two other comments, the Top of the Mark offers some of the very best views of San Francisco and the bar food there is quite good. (Try the tacos with wonton shells.) We had breakfast in the downstairs dinning room. The dinning room is lovely, but the breakfast was unbelievably bad. How do you ruin toast? Well, by serving it both soggy and burnt. How do you ruin roasted potatoes? By making them dark brown, greasy, and overcooked. The same was true of the bacon. I'm not a picky eater, but this food wasn't up to what should be any restaurant's standards. The Mark Hopkins used to be one of San Francisco's best hotels. It deserves a new management company and a lot of TLC.…
