HISTORIC GRANDEUR ON THE CREST OF NOB HILL As splendid now as when it opened to great fanfare in 1926, InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco is one of the city’s finest hotels with a long legacy of service excellence. I've lived in SF and the surrounding area for over a decade and have always wanted to stay at the Mark Hopkins. I was having surgery last week and decided to get a room near the hospital for ease of transportation and to have somewhere "special" to relax before and after my procedure. I am not very high maintenance, but do expect a special room/experience when staying at a 4-star hotel that's as iconic as the Mark Hopkins. Unfortunately, the "King Deluxe" room was very underwhelming and felt more like a cheaper chain. For the price of the room, I expected it to feel either updated or at least a little luxurious, but it really fell flat. The bed was mediocre, the bedside light switch worked intermittently at best, the bathroom was minuscule with the "soaking tub" being barely a foot deep, and the TV was extremely outdated and barely worked (so glad I brought my chromecast with me!). None of the amenities that were advertised were actually present, and it really was a let down overall. I understand that COVID has been a struggle for hotels, but I have stayed in a number of hotels throughout the pandemic and have seen some of them excel in how they reacted to the situation and provided incredible stays and service. The Mark Hopkins seems to be scraping by because they have an established name and historical prestige, but this property is just not living up to the standard I would expect. Based off of this stay I would not return nor would I recommend this property. It's disappointing to feel like I wasted money when I had been excited for a getaway to relax during a stressful time.

I stayed at Mark Hopkins in October 2020 while interviewing for a job in SF. They upgraded my room to the most spectacular view imaginable. I also received the kindest welcome package with a handwritten card that wish me well during my interviews and included all sorts of sweet treats. I wish I could remember the name of the woman concierge who did this. Mark Hopkins is already known as a top hotel, and the staff was as accommodating as could be. Location is fabulous. I also stayed in an airbnb - to check out another neighborhood - and it was nowhere near the value of my stay at Mark Hopkins.

we stayed for 3 nights prior to thanksgiving. dog friendly hotel with water bowls and dog treats near the front entrance. the room was immaculate. great location for dog walking as huntington park is nearby - with a group of locals and their dogs during evenings. within walking distance to union square and shopping as well as chinatown. their valet parking was on the expensive end, so we chose to park at a nearby garage 2 blocks down the hill. too bad that the top of the mark was closed during our visit (due to covid-19 restrictions). would we want to return? yes!

This hotel is a true San Fransisco MUST stay.... As soon as you walk in the lobby you are instantly take back to a historic time... the style is beautiful... the hotel is super clean.... the staff was SPOT on and the doorman knew us by name that same day. With covid they have made the property feel safe and super clean. some of the services are changed for covid (like no room service) but the staff make sure the guest barely notice anything.... Ana at the front desk was amazing and wanted to make sure everything was perfect.... THIS is my new hotel in San Fransisco. Not one complaint.

Let's face it we all need something nice in our lives right now with the World in chaos and The Mark was it for me in fact best of my year so far was this past weekend staying there. My first experience at the Mark was in 1977 at The Top Of The Mark so when I really needed a break from all the hardships of this year I decided to plan a romantic weekend (yes the rates are cheaper here on the weekends) basing myself and my new friend in a King Suite with Terrace/Bay Views and from check in to check out 2 days later the whole weekend was magical. The weather was San Francisco at it's best even better we had most of the City to ourselves. Front desk staff great and housekeeping perfect meaning they were there when we needed them and out of sight when we didn't. The suite was huge and we had views from bridge to bridge plus Nob Hill, Russian Hill and Telegraph Hill. Room was gorgeous and bathroom sparkling clean. Did I mention the rates on the weekend are significantly cheaper than during the week. I am an IHG Rewards member so booked through their site and got a great deal so for sure worth signing up for that. This weekend stay was a treat to myself and it turned out to be the best 2 days of my year so far. The management team should be proud their staff at every level they made our stay seamless and it was even more romantic than I hoped with half of the credit going to the hotel and the other half to the City for being it's most magical self. Highest marks from me, during these hard times it is hard to put on a good face but the Mark handled my weekend like I was an old friend coming to visit. Thank you to all, it was perfect.
