We booked our stay through Amex's FHR program. My status was recognized when I checked in and we were upgraded to junior suites. The concierge was very helpful, both the one we corresponded with via email before our stay and the one on site. They helped us with everything from booking our breakfast reservation (breakfast buffet is included when booking with FHR), making an afternoon tea booking (which can be challenging as it is very popular), and even sending someone to make the bed more firm because it was a bit too soft for us. The room was bright, spacious, elegant, and comfortable. On our first evening, we enjoyed a nice dinner at the Pied Piper using some of our food credit from FHR, and then had a brief nighttime swim at the large pool. The next morning, we enjoyed the luxurious breakfast buffet, which is included with FHR bookings. The buffet had everything from eggs and meats, to smoked salmon and charcuterie, to yogurt parfaits and fresh fruits. For the rest of the day, we were able to walk to various attractions in downtown SF, such as the cable car and the Ferry Building. We enjoyed afternoon tea in the beautiful lobby of the hotel as well. All in all, we loved our experience at the Palace, especially with the perks of the FHR program.

The Palace Hotel is a piece of history and is always so well decorated. The seasonal flowers they display in the lobby are gorgeous! The restaurant under the stained glass roof is something to be seen! I would recommend splurging for brunch or a cocktail under the stained glass ceiling so you can enjoy the beauty of it. Yes the brunch is pricey but the service and food are amazing and a great way to experience this amazing hotel. Our room was not in the greatest location as the view was the outside of the stained glass atrium but the room itself was fantastic! The bathroom was gorgeous (however I am not a fan fo the European style shower door) and recently remodeled. The bed was very comfortable and I slept like the angel that I am!

I always like to start off with the bad, because that's what you probably want to know about anyway. My wife and I stayed here 5 nights. Now, we don't expect anything in the line of a room upgrade being Marriott Gold. However, I think we were probably placed in one of the smallest rooms on property. This historic buildings always have those few rooms that are smaller than the standard room because of architectural oversight. The Palmer House in Chicago is a culprit of this. I think we just drew the short straw. To worsen matters, we were awoken at 5:00 AM the first morning by noisy jackhammers right outside. I get it. It's San Francisco. There's construction to be done. That doesn't help me get any sleep though. Suffice to say, the first 24 hours of our stay weren't amazing. Now, the good. The location of the hotel is well placed. The inclusion of the chocolate shop on property is a wonderful touch, and the lobby/restaurant is obviously astounding. Prices in the restaurants are inflated, as you would expect. Still, it's quite the sight. For our 5 days sightseeing tour, I can't imagine a better placed hotel in the city. Overall, we didn't spend too much time in the room, so the smaller room size wasn't a deal breaker. Our interactions with staff were brief but pleasant. I can honestly somewhat forgive the cramped room because it is a historic building and you really have to expect that to some degree. Compared to the other hotels in this city, this one is actually one of the better ones. Prices are also generally good here. Yes, it's a step below the St. Regis and Ritz, but it's also not $500 a night.

I have stayed in many hotels in San Francisco, and this was among the very best experiences. My fiancé joined me on a work trip, and we were blown away by the quality of service, the stunning property, and the incredible daily breakfast. We were upgraded to a beautiful suite that was perfect for us to have our own space and room to take work calls. The elite breakfast voucher was straightforward and easy to use, the servers were kind and attentive, and it was the best luxury breakfast buffet we have ever had. The location is perfect for work or exploring the city (and beyond). This might be my new favorite hotel in SF. Thank you for an exceptional experience!

I stayed the weekend before coronavirus shut down travel. Have stayed here number of times before. The most recent renovations have greatly improved hotel. Love the tall ceilings and early 1900’s feel combined with new and modern furniture and fixtures in rooms. The buffet breakfast in the elegant dining area is a special treat. Gym is fully equipped and not busy so everything is available. The location next to Montgomery St station is accessible to everything either via transit or walking. I have stayed many times at all the top SF hotels: Ritz, Four Seasons, St Regis, W and this is my favorite. I am a Marriott Ambassador Elite customer and felt that hotel made effort to recognize my status.
