The Banyan Tree is a beautiful, extraordinarily restful place well off the beaten track, but within striking distance of the Hana Highway, Haleakala, and the beaches of Paia. Fabulous pool! If you are looking for the glitz of Kaanapali or Wailea, better to stay there. If you are looking for lux for the soul, you've found it here.

This bed and breakfast was charming...with beautiful grounds and a nice manager. He was very helpful in giving us instructions in how to drive to see the sunrise at Haleakala and the timing of leaving etc. We had a small mix up about having our breakfast delivered the night before as we were leaving at 4:15 am. I would recommend...

Nice place in the upcountry near Makawao. Close to town and many sights, but a very quiet sanctuary. Rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast in a basket delivered to your door. Nice pool and hot tub, but the pool is not heated so often too cool to use. Beautiful grounds.

My wife and I love the Banyan Bed and Breakfast Retreat. This was our second stay. For us, this makes Maui a real Hawaiian experience. If you want resorts, tiki torches and a bar in the pool, this is not your place. If you want to get away from the big tourist scene, this is a great place. The property...

We loved the Banyan Tree! A sense of peace & comfort is present at this lovely place: pretty cottages with an "old Hawai'i" feel tucked into a tropical garden. Marty and family are wonderful hosts, and have created a relaxing, comfortable, and beautiful atmosphere. We stayed in the Hibiscus Cottage, and the king bed was wonderfully comfortable. We loved the...

I recently spent 3 nights at the Banyan Tree House in Makawao as part of a 2 week Hawaiian vacation. It was the perfect break between the beaches and resort life and allowed us to relax and enjoy nature, and sleep with fresh mountain air, rather than the standard aircon all night. We especially loved the owner Marty who couldn't...

We were a family of four visiting Maui last August and spent 5 nights there. The place is quiet, it is a tropical garden wherever you look, well equipped, BBQ, swimming pool. We were in the Gardena cottage. The location is perfect to go to Haleakala national park and to visit North/North East places such Hookipa, Paiaa, Hana road. The...

We stayed here three days after four days in Ka'anapali -- what a difference! Very peaceful and quiet. We had an issue with the privacy of the room we booked (the place was fairly well-booked at the time), and Marty was happy to change us to another room. Nice salt-water pool! Only a half-minute from "downtown" Makawao, which is cute...
