My husband and I stayed here for 10 nights on our honeymoon in a studio. Don't knock the studio if you are a party of 2 (or even have small children) until you try it! It is very spacious and the lanai adds to your living space. Sure, this is a family resort but we had no issues staying here as honeymooners. We prefer the beach to the pool, however they did have a dedicated adult pool that was quiet. There was great snorkeling right off the beach. We loved having Dukes to eat at right on the property. We did not have any issues with parking, but we also preferred to be in before sunset so we could watch the sunset on the beach. The resort was close to all our activities and dining we wanted to do. The only thing we had to drive more than 15 mins for was the road to Hana. We will not hesitate to stay here again when we return.

We enjoyed a very nice three night stay in a 2 bedroom unit with another couple. While certainly not inexpensive, for us, this was less expensive than two budget hotel rooms for the same dates (we booked somewhat last minute). We saved a bunch of $ booking directly with the management company compared to the consolidator sites. We found many positives, and added some general informational notes—no judgment on those, just things folks might appreciate knowing in advance. Pro’s: - For Maui visits, we favor the Ka’anapali area. This resort is toward the north end of that corridor of hotels and condos, just about 2 miles north of Whaler’s Village. So we like the location. - Overall, this is a very nice property. We have a friend with a timeshare at the Westin next door and he rates this as nicer. - The two bedroom unit is set up really well for two couples. Each had a king bed and an ensuite bathroom. The only minor difference between them was one has direct balcony access and the other a window of the same view. - There is valet and bell service available. Bell service is especially helpful if you pack heavy upon arrival (e.g. come with your groceries plus luggage). - We liked the pool setting and size. During our stay it was never over-crowded. We also liked that there was no “reserving” lounge chairs at obnoxiously early hours like we’ve seen at many resorts. - There is ample beach access just beyond the pool. Again, we did not find the beach overly crowded. It was fun to take a dip in the ocean, although the waves didn’t cooperate for boogie boarding. We did not see good snorkeling near the condo, but the state park ½ mile to the south is walkable and has OK snorkeling. - No resort fees! (Are you paying attention Mr. Marriott?) Other notes: - The condo comes with a lengthy list of rules and asserts that breaking them can cost $350 (e.g. leaving towels or sports gear on the balcony). The rules were perhaps nitpicky, although not onerous to obey. - The contract with the management company prohibits posting negative reviews on social media. - We had a partial ocean view on the sixth floor. Being on the sixth floor or higher is a big deal since it is above the palm trees. - The building is basically a “U” shape viewed from above, with the open part facing the ocean. Our room was on the side, near the bottom of the “U” and we had perhaps a 20-30 degree arc to see the ocean from our lanai (balcony). Rooms closer to the ends of the legs would enjoy a greater view. - The rooms have ductless dryers. They have very limited capability, so don’t plan on doing much laundry. - Parking can be a bit of a hunt, especially in the surface lot. That said, we always found a spot at the property.

We found ourselves in search of a vacation rental after an unexpected issue with our original vacation plan. At the last minute we rented a Honua Kai condo through Maui Resort Rentals. This was the perfect rental experience from start to finish. Maui Resort Rentals is not on-site so we checked in through the resort - a smooth process with very nice employees. The condo was exactly as pictured and described and had everything one would need for a vacation at the beach - beach chairs, a cooler, umbrella. The condo was well stocked with essentials for cooking and laundry as well as toiletries for shower. The property is beautiful with multiple pools and plenty of chairs and umbrellas. The gym is fabulous and open 24 hours. We found incredible snorkeling a short walk down the beach from the resort. The restaurant on site - Dukes - is very good and comparable in pricing to other restaurants in the area. Based on some previous reviews we were concerned about parking but it was never an issue for us. As for the area, Honua Kai is a perfect central location. It was just a great experience and we have nothing but good things to say about the agency and the property. We would absolutely do it all again.

We just returned from a wonderful week at the Honua Kai. To start with, the resort is about a 45-minute drive from the airport. There are two major buildings at the resort and a set of villas. The main building is referred to HH and the second building is HK . We stayed in 414 as our room was HK-0414 and considered a mountain view. The room was spotless and well maintained. We had no issues with WI-FI and worked throughout the resort. The staff was very friendly and went above and beyond to help with any request. There is no room service at this time so if you need anything you need to call the front desk. We used the gym several times which has plenty of free weights and cardio equipment, We defiantly recommend this resort as it is great for families and everyone.

We stayed in a 7th floor corner studio with an amazing ocean view! It was perfect for me and my husband. Wonderful resort and amenities with beautiful grounds and very nice staff. Duke’s restaurant was very nice and we enjoyed a couple of great meals and lots of drinks from the pool service bar!

Always felt like the customer was put first at all times. I’ve never stayed at such a beautiful location and resort with equally as good service and attention to detail to make sure customer needs were continuously meant. The experience and location you get with Honua Kai is unmatched and I highly recommend staying here during your stay in west Maui. Can’t think of one aspect of this beautiful resort that could’ve been any better! Did I mention the pool setup is amazing, it’s pretty much it’s own little water park! Also the restaurant Duke’s right on the beach has absolutely incredible food and beverages! Highly recommend staying at Honua Kai and visiting Duke’s! I couldn’t have been more satisfied with my room and entire stay at this little slice of heaven!

First let me start by saying the resort itself is wonderful and very beautiful, as well as our room was very nice and spacious and had a great view. We had a few issues while staying here however. The first problem is roaches and ants. Now it wasn’t just 1 or 2 roaches, over my stay here from 5/21-5/25 i saw at least 15-20 roaches in the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. There were also ants all over the kitchen as well. We mentioned it to the front desk and all they did was try to justify why there were roaches in my room and have someone come out bait it (which did nothing). They offered to switch rooms but for us it wasn’t practical because we had a short stay and a few tours so we weren’t in our room too much. Second the front desk service wasn’t for the customer in anyway. We had flight issues and had to check in a day later and they refused to compensate in anyway, and kept telling us what they can’t do instead of what they can do. We got told different information from all of the different front desk staff regarding towels, taxis, etc. It just seemed like nobody knew correct information and sent us on a wild goose chase. It just seemed like nobody had any interest as us being their guest and we just kept getting told no on anything. Also there is 1 restaurant for the entire resort meaning it is busy, and it’s the only dining option for the entire resort and there is only 1 bar. Also the pool chairs get filled up super quick and even thought there are signs saying you can’t reserve seats, everyone does it and reserved chairs for hours even when they aren’t sitting there. There are signs posted against this but nobody enforces it. The food a dukes restaurant was good and the drinks was really expensive as well as the food. I know you should expect this in Hawaii, but it is pricey. Overall choose a different resort because they don’t really care about the customer here, it was absolutely beautiful but not worth everything else. Oh also, at check in they add a damage protection fee of $80 , and at checkout regardless if there is no damage they still charge you? I’m not sure how that is justified but at this point we we’re tired of arguing with the front desk and not getting anywhere. Plus other hidden fees so just check your bill when you leave if you come here.

DANGEROUS CONDITIONS! Everyone on staff knows that there is not enough parking here, so they send you to park a few blocks away where there is no lighting at all and the conditions after dark are extremely unsafe… Especially for Seniors or special needs families. We are in excellent health and had a serious accident here because there is no lighting at all in their overflow parking area. Furthermore, you have to walk on the street in some places and there are no sidewalks. We brought this to the attention of Honua Kai management, AND their safety and security department and they seem TOTALLY disinterested in addressing this very real safety condition. STRONGLY SUGGEST GOING ELSEWHERE!!! If you book here, prepare to be back on property before 7 PM… Because there is not available safe parking after 7 PM.

As a family of seven, we run into issues with multiple hotel rooms, etc., but are able to find a great three bedroom at the Honua Kai. We also have used the roll-away beds and the extra bed in the sofa. Overall, facilities with kitchen, patios, etc., have been great to use.
