The beach is special and fun for snorkeling, swimming, cliff jumping or just plain sitting around. Pool is nice. The rooms are dated in size and the sliding door to the bathroom was annoying. If you have more then 2 persons in a standard room it's not super comfortable. Service was good and foot and drink enjoyable,. Don't waste your time with the shuttle as it is slow and makes numerous stops. Atmosphere is great and staff friendly .

***** for the location, *** for anything else especially when taking price into consideration. The room was clean however with a strange odor. Limited option re breakfast (breakfast was not included inspite of price paid). Their Sandbar was a good option for night drinks and appetizer style dinner

Great hotel. We are very picky and the room was very clean and well kept. We had an oceanfront room which was well worth the extra money as it was so nice to sit in our lanai and listen to the Hawaiian music from surrounding venues and watch the waves. Buffet breakfast was very nice. If you don’t want to spend the money why for an ocean front or ocean view room there are several places throughout the resort to relax and watch the ocean. Easy walk to Whaler’s village for nice shopping and dining options. Great stay!

Yes. Didn't go this time but have stayed there several times in the past. I go with my adult son or adult son and daughter. We loved it. It is right On the beach. We stayed in Wailea last year but prices have sky rocketed and I was comparing Westin prices to Ritz Carlton in Wailea

Not worth the money. Check-in was cold even though it wasn’t a busy time. And when I let them know I was shortening my weeklong stay by 1 day I was informed I would be charged for the room anyway because I hadn’t given them notice 7 days before I arrived. The policy mentions that timeframe for “canceling the reservation” but NOT for alterations to the reservation, and there’s a huge difference. I’ve stayed at 5-star resorts in many places and none have ever gouged customers because of their own ambiguous policy language. Appalling! The place looks dated, and the furniture shows wear. There is scant signage and since it’s a sprawling place wrong turns and convoluted routes are frequent. Only ONE of the two restaurants was open each night for a nice seated dinner, and the one open on weekdays had no reservations. Prices were exorbitant, even for a resort, and the food was blah. Service was cold, except for the lobby Sand Bar and Grill, and the Cliff Dive poolside grill. One concierge was rude and aggressively negative when I inquired about options for getting offsite to see more of the island. I had one wonderful spa treatment but at the second, the masseuse yanked one of my arthritic fingers (though I had alerted her about the osteoarthritis in my fingers) and I yelped in pain, after which she claimed it had been “such a light touch” and then took it upon herself to blow through privacy protocols and quiz me about whether I had seen a doctor and had cortisone shots. I rented a cabana for our stay, and it was a great decision. Service was attentive, and it was wonderful to get a break from the sun every so often. My baby granddaughter napped happily on the sectional every day. It would be nice if they didn’t shut down the pool so early, though. The views are pretty and the sunsets are glorious.

The Sheraton is a beautifully maintained hotel with a gorgeous beach and pool. But our stay was marred by our room situation. We've stayed there a number of times and had saved up for our 25th anniversary trip, paying top dollar for a Deluxe Ocean Front Room and asking three times for a room in the Moana building, which is indeed ocean front. All three times, we were told that the request had been noted. When I received a pre-trip e-mail from concierge Anjelica Cocson asking for information on my arrival and departure times, I responded with my fourth reminder about any room in the Moana building. She did not respond until three days AFTER our arrival, which was obviously useless. We were instead given a room in building 2, which is not ocean front, despite all of our requests. After two sleepless nights in that room because of major water pipe noise issues, we had to vacate the room and were re-assigned to the oddly-designed room 5107, a former office. We were comp'ed for one night, one meal at the poolside bar, and our parking, but unfortunately there was a pall over the whole trip. I’ve seen other reviews detailing similar situations at this hotel, and we also personally heard another customer at the front desk talking about how from her “ocean view” room she couldn’t see any ocean at all unless she went out on the lanai, in which case she saw only a sliver of it. I would still recommend this hotel to someone wanting a lovely place to stay in Maui. But it is insanely expensive, and the amount of money we personally spent, after saving for years for this anniversary, and not even getting into the true ocean front building after three assurances by phone, is something we won’t ever forget. ☹

While I have stayed at the Sheraton on previous trips to Maui, on this recent vacation my wife and I stayed at a nearby condo. We did however visit the Sheraton twice to visit the beach and have drinks and meals at the Coral Reef restaurant and the Mai Tai bar. Despite not being an overnight guest, we received great service and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast and two great lunches. Every staff member from the valet staff, servers and bartenders were warm, friendly and provided great service. I want to call out Mike at the pool desk who helped us when we rented lounge chairs and an umbrella for the beach. Mike was incredibly helpful in getting us settled in the beach and in making dining suggestions at the Sheraton and sightseeing tips for our Maui visit. Mike truly practiced Aloha. I own a business and would love to have Mike and many of the other Sheraton staff members on my team. Thanks Sheraton for a great experience.

There are expectations that come with the Sheraton name as a tropical destination resort. The Sheraton Maui Resort & "Spa" don't really live up to them. We're not picky people and generally enjoy going with the flow - but at the price, we won't be coming back here. $950+ is far too much for this experience. We had an ocean view king in the Nalu building and it's a very small room. The view overlooking the resort and ocean was the best part of the stay. The staff is great as is the beach. The pool would be paradise for kids (there's no adult-only pool section). The breakfast is tasty - as it should be for the money. I would skip the breakfast package though as the breakfast buffet isn't stellar compared to other resorts. This must have been impressive when it opened in 1963 - but certain things can't be updated, like low ceilings and small rooms - and the effect feels like an aging apartment building that's had a few too many coats of paint. I don't believe we saw a single person entering or exiting the spa which is located on the ground floor of the Nalu building. With a tiny, dark entrance and low ceilings, it seems that they decided to turn a few guest rooms into a spa - with massage tables on what previously would have been room lanais. Not my idea of a spa. Despite the great photos, this is NOT a grand Hawaiian resort. We longingly walked through the updated Westin and for a few more dollars it's a MUCH better value and it's in the middle of the Whaler Village district. Overall Maui was a huge disappointment. It's busy and everything is a long drive away. The whole island has the feel of a huge suburb. There are very few areas that would qualify as a "tropical paradise." This was our first and last trip here. Oahu has a much better selection of actual city life - or off-the-beaten path tropical surroundings. Kauai is head and shoulders a better destination with postcard "Hawaiian" vistas everywhere you look. It also has that laid-back island feeling with fun back-country roads, incredible beaches and hiking. Views that you'll dream about for months.

My wife and I stayed here for the first time back in 2019, and enjoyed one of the most relaxing vacation experiences we've ever had. We were eager to get back. We returned this month for a "baby moon," and had another wonderful experience. Our trip was intended to be low-key. My wife was 27 weeks pregnant, so this was a lay by the pool and beach kind of a vacation, not an island adventure. In our opinion, the Sheraton Maui can be a great basecamp for either one, but certainly ideal for the relaxing kind. Yes, it's a family friendly hotel, so there are plenty of younger parents and kids around (which we don't mind anyway), but with a 20+ acre property, it never feels crowded or noisy. Unlike most of the "tower" style hotels that line Kaanapali, the Sheraton is more of a campus-style property, with many buildings strewn out across its incredible location around Black Rock. The hotel was one of the first to be built on Kaanapali, built in 1963 (extensively remodeled fairly recently - 2016, I think), so one assumes they must have had their pick of real estate and location back then...and it shows. The resort occupies a semi-private location at the north end of Kaanapali, with its buildings surrounding a greenspace, gardens, pools, beach, koi ponds, etc. Just walking around the property is a beautiful and relaxing experience. The views from the common areas of Hoku Hale (building 5), which appears to have preserved a lot of the original architecture from the 60's in a striking way, are absolutely unreal. Our first stay, we were in Lahaina Hale (building 2, I think), with a "deluxe ocean view" room - we could see a bit of the ocean across a large greenspace. It was a quiet corner of the property (except during the luau, of course), and we loved it. This time, we were upgraded to a "deluxe oceanfront" room in Moana Hale (building 6), on the top floor, and it was absolutely spectacular. The room itself is solidly 3.5-4 star territory, with decent furnishings, older appliances, and a clean, simple appearance. The show-stopper is, again, the location, in this case - the view from the room, which, from the bed, essentially makes you feel like you're on a cruise ship. All you see is water (and a palm tree). During our five-night stay, we saw humpback whales from our lanai (balcony) almost every day, Hawaiian green sea turtles swimming in front of our room, as well as large schools of fish and what we think was a barracuda. We joked we would have been perfectly happy spending the entire stay on our lanai with room service! Because our goal was predominantly to just let my wife relax, we rarely left the resort this stay (we did grab a wonderful dinner out at Pacifico on the Beach, which we highly recommend!). We rented a two-person cabana each day, enjoyed the excellent buffet breakfast ($10/person upgrade for Bonvoy Platinum Elites) each morning, and tried almost everything on the menu at the Cliff Dive Bar. Obviously, there are endless eating and activity options on Maui and especially in the very touristy Kaanapali and Lahaina areas, but we wanted simple and relaxing, and that is just what the resort provided for us. As others have noted - skip the "free gift" offer. It's a timeshare pitch (which we knew from our last visit, and avoided this visit), and, frankly, a waste of time. I do wish Marriott would stop doing this, as it cheapens the experience. Yes, everything is expensive, as is the case everywhere on Maui, it seems! We booked our stay with Bonvoy points, and I think this resort is an exceptional value for Elite members and those with points to spend. We paid in cash back in 2019, when rates on Maui were more reasonable. We took our time in the mornings, hit the gym fairly early (I enjoyed several runs by the beach, which I can't recommend enough), enjoyed the buffet breakfast, soaked up the sun in our cabana with food and drink service all day (the banana bread and fresh fruit is amazing!), and then went off to find some dinner in the evening. Oh, and the sunset from the Moana rooms is breathtaking. We made it an insular, but extremely relaxing, stay, and this resort is well-suited to that. A few more notes - decent coffee at the Sand Bar, very good fish or pork tacos at the Cliff Dive Bar. My wife scheduled a prenatal massage at the Black Rock Spa, and raved about it. The Sheraton Fitness gym is not huge (plenty of treadmills, small free weight space), but clean and nicely appointed. It is a maze to get to, but a beautiful maze with incredible views along the way! The front desk was quick to respond to my inquiries via the Bonvoy app's chat feature, providing extra coffee, pillows, a yoga mat for my wife, room service, etc. We love this resort, and hope to stay here many more times, perhaps next time with our children in tow!

We got the hotel on Bonvoy points and paid extra for Moana room. Not sure what other rooms look like. Coffee maker and compact refrigerator so helps with morning coffee and goodies. The walk to Moana rooms is a lot longer… the view is to the ocean and beautiful. The hotel is expensive as is everything in Maui! The place is relaxed feel. Everything is well maintained. Umbrellas and chairs by the beach are $25 each. There are free water bean bags in the pool which are cool. Didn’t eat at the hotel. There are plenty of eating places within walking distance at the Whalers Village. What’s great is the walkway along the beach both ways to all hotels and other places. We also walked along the beach trail all the way to Slappy Jacks- recommend for breakfast! The beach is beautiful and view to island of Lanai. I defiantly recommend taking an Uber to Lahaina town to eat and walk around to the shops. If you have a car and want to go farther, recommend Paia. We rented the car and drove to Hana… very windy two lane road. Make reservations to black sand beach months in advance.
