For our first trip to Kaua'i (after repeat visits to O'ahu and Maui over many years), I wanted to choose a hideaway cottage where we could feel the beauty and power of the island's nature with five senses. I was also looking for the comfort of high standard in which we would happily wake up to a fresh morning, enjoy...

I stayed at Cottage #5 with my husband, daughter and mother last week (August). The cottage is located at the back of the property, but the beach is easily accessible. It's outfitted with everything you need in the kitchen and has plenty of towels, nice linens, and some water stuff left from other people (and we left a mask!). My...

Stayed in the Summer of 2014. Fantastic, well appointed cottages offering privacy and romantic settings among lush greenery right on the beachfront. The beach has amazingly soft white sand and is virtually deserted, perfect for sunbathing. But it got a bit rocky for us about 15 feet into the water, so we also drove around to try out some other...

We stayed at Hale Makai three times before he new owners took over. They made many improvements, upgrading the bathrooms and kitchens beautifully and replanting the garden with native pants - it is very beautiful. HOWEVER, they seem to think that because they furnished the cottages with high end appliances, travertine flooring and luxury bathroom fixtures they can provide little...

My friend and I absolutely loved this property. It had the perfect amount of luxury without sacrificing the local island style and feel one hopes to immerse in when visiting the islands. If you prefer to stay in large, grand-scale resorts, disconnected from the local scene and residential areas, this isn't the property for your stay. This is a place...

If you pay this much per night for a place, it's reasonable to have certain expectations. Such as shampoo. No little bottles of shampoo. No store close by either. So be sure to bring some or you will be washing your hair with bar soap. We lost power the first night we stayed. Since there is no a/c, the room...

We're very sorry you were not 100% satisfied with your stay at Hale Makai Cottages. We do send out Arrival Instructions to all our guest explaining the items we provide and the items guests will need to bring with them. We also include a list of stores within different distances to the cottages (closest ones being about 15 to 30...

This place was so beautiful! From the pristine grounds to the inside of each cottage, it is clean and has plenty of furniture and amenities to enjoy the surroundings. There was a snafu the first night and our room was overbooked, but management took care of the situation very professionally and we ended up truly enjoying our little cottage in...

Our first baby is due in February and we figured that this would be our last opportunity for a vacation for a while. We booked a last minute stay at Hale Makai Cottages mid November and are so glad that we chose this spot! The beach was right there. We loved making most of our meals in the fully equipped...

My husband and I were looking for the ultimate non-resort Hawaiian experience and certainly found it at Hale Makai. We stayed in cottage #4 in November 2014 and although the weather was not what we usually encounter in Hawaii we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottages are remarkably clean, impeccably decorated, and thankfully quiet and remote. We would wholeheartedly recommend...

We stayed at Cottage #1 from June 20 to June 27. We cannot come up with a single complaint about the stay. The cottage was very nice. We bought our groceries at various stores and simply relaxed and enjoyed the never ending breeze. We rented a car, of course, and saw the entire island. We also took a boat excursion...
