At the price point of this hotel, it’s better to stay at the Fairmont Orchid Hotel. We had 1 night there and planned 4 nights at Waikoloa Marriott. We found the hotel was old, not clean and staff not understanding. The pool areas were crowded and difficult to find seats. There is only 1 restaurant on site The bathroom of our so called upgraded room was small, sink didn’t drain and shower area was dirty. Also, I was surprised at the hotel staff attitudes towards loyal Marriott reward members Lastly, we had to leave early and the hotel charges an early leaving fee of one night. I highly recommend go elsewhere.

Hotel's Favourite
We stayed at this property for 1 night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. As a titanium elite, I was very impressed with the staff and the reception we received. Our flight landed in Kona at 9:40 am. We were at the hotel at approximately 10:30 am. Despite the early hour, we were allowed to check in, and even upgraded to a larger corner room with a full ocean view (top floor). We would have been thrilled with just this. But the check-in person did more. When she realized that we had not eaten yet, she gave us a second breakfast voucher (even though we were only staying 1 night) and encouraged us to head right downstairs to have a late breakfast before the restaurant closed at 11 am (which we did... more on that below). She also gave us a voucher for 2 classes of champagne at the bar (to celebrate our anniversary) and, as elite guests, she also comped our parking charge. We were blown away with the way she was bending over backward to ensure that we had a wonderful stay. The room was very nice, and the property was beautiful. We spent the afternoon enjoying the pools and beach. My only complaint was that the beach itself was very rocky. There was sand, but it only went for a little bit... once you got about knee deep, it was all rocks. In comparison, we spent time at the Mauna Kea and Westin Hapuna resorts, and their beaches were much nicer/sandier. I guess this is why those properties are more expensive. Elites have access to a free breakfast buffet at the hotel restaurant. While this is technically a 'continental' buffet, we found that it was very filling. We had access to fruit, breads (toast, English muffins, bagels), delicious pastries, cold cuts, cheeses, hard-boiled eggs and waffles. We could have paid extra to add in bacon, hot eggs and custom omelets, but honestly, the continental breakfast was very filling and the extra was not necessary. The hotel is located near shopping, and it is easy to walk (or drive) to dining options, as well as Island Markets (grocery store) and even a movie theatre. The hotel has ice machines on each floor. Unlike typical hotel ice machines, the ice is crushed, and there are water dispensers right next to the ice. This makes it very easy to fill up your water bottle at 1 station with ice and water. Oh, and they gave us 2 free reusable water bottles when checking in. This was a really nice touch. We requested late checkout, and it was granted, so we actually ended up staying at this hotel for over 24 hours. I have never had a hotel property be more welcoming to me, or so willing to fulfill my requests. I rarely write reviews for hotels, but the Marriott Waikoloa Beach is outstanding, and it deserves praise.

The Waikoloa area is fairly new. This Marriott is modern and beautiful. Nice pool area including a warm pool with sand beach area for kids. 3 pools and 3 hot tubs. Occeanfront to a nice beach area. Rooms are modern and comfortable. Walkable to next door Kings Shops and Queens Shops. Plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from.

Poor customer service, too bad Starwood didn’t rub off on Marriott. Rooms are small and outdated. Didn’t have housekeeping some days, no room service, not late check out even though it was discussed at time of booking. Not ADA compliant, No attempt to make things right.

This was our second honeymoon and I am so glad we chose Marriott Waikoloa Beach! This was perfect for us. We had just spent four days in Waikiki at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, we had to wait in a long line just to check in! The property was nice but kind of crowded and noisy. The Marriott was a breeze to check in and very comfortable and much less crowded. I was happy when I found they had free activities you could sign up for. The first morning I joined the Lei making activity and I made a lei, a first for me. The beach on the property was so beautiful and clean and uncrowded, the pools were great too. We didn't eat at the hotel so I can't say what the food was like. The staff was great always friendly and helpful. The only issue we had was trying to do a load of laundry, but that was because of another guest, not the hotel's fault. They provide a laundry facility and laundry detergent free of charge, I had washed a load of clothes but I was waiting a long time for a dryer because someone had put their clothes in a dryer and left, My husband called the front desk and they sent security who then removed the clothes from the dryer so I could dry mine. I think they need a few more washers and dryers so this kind of thing won't happen.

Nice hotel in an area if Big Island we hadn’t visited before. Our big surprise after check in was that there was no oven or cooktop!!! Just a microwave - not even a combi…. The grills outside were good so we managed. That’s where we heard how many others were also surprised by the lack of cooktop or oven. Great kitchen equipment: (large) fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle etc BUT NO oven or hot plate. Dangerous cupboard door above sink at head height so watch out. Bathroom good. Furniture good and in great shape Building as a whole nicely kept. Infinity pool great but not enough umbrellas. Sandy beach - but not good for snorkeling Service great as befits Hawaii. Daily housekeeping on our first but then 2x per week afterwards. Would recommend.

Dated property with lack of general cleanliness. We ended up leaving the property after switching rooms and consistently seeing a lack of cleaning and even products like soap. What really did it was when we saw the tub and the disgusting connecting door to the next room. It honestly needs to be replaced and looks like it has never been cleaned or even opened? Save yourself and go to the Westin up the street!!! A world of difference and actually felt like a Marriott property.

When it comes to location and grounds, it was what I initially believed was pretty good! Wasn't super fancy, but had everything you need to relax. This all changed when we saw cockroaches in our room. When I talked to the front desk about it, they truly did not care. They didn't want to see a picture. They were just like, "Oh okay thanks." It was almost like I told them they were low on towels at the pool or something. I would think that if someone staying at your resort encountered that, there would at least be a "We are so sorry!" It was disgusting. I'm starting to rethink my allegiance to Marriott for said reason because of being a gold member on Bonvoy. Maybe the cockroaches are a normal thing for them and this was no big deal? If you're thinking of staying, maybe best to look elsewhere.

Aloha samchampos, on behalf of the management and staff thank you for the nice comments about our location and grounds and please accept our apologies for the challenges you experienced with your room during your stay with us. As a large resort property in a tropical location, we have many requirements that are met on a regular basis regarding pest control, but unfortunately, it is not always 100% effective. Once again, please accept our apology and I hope that you continue to use Marriott as your preferred hotel of choice when you travel.

Some staff are fine, others not. Waiter disappeared and 15 minutes later reappeared saying he was at a staff change meeting. Then left again and 10 minutes later reappeared with the check. We were one of three tables. The woman working the bar by the pool today, Oct. 2, should make herself a drink to readjust her attitude. Umbrellas far and few between by the pool. Fitness has three machines: 2 leg machines and 1 multipurpose cable machine, which was broken on one side. A few dumbbells and treadmills rounded it. Not looking for a full gym, but don’t call 3 machines with one broken a fitness center. Took long time to check in on Oct 1. Tried to use mobile key as I had the room number. It did not work and when I called the front desk/operator to help and avoid the long line, the customer service person had no idea of how to do it, so told me she had to find her paper with the instructions. Never came back. The property itself is very nice. Pools are a nice temperature and well maintained. Grounds maintained as well.

As a frequent traveler of Marriott brand hotels, this resort exceeded my expectations. I am very particular about customer service, room cleanliness and hotel amenities. This property checked all of the boxes. We were greeted by Queenie (not sure if that is the proper spelling) who was incredibly kind and thorough when checking us in. When we told her we were celebrating our anniversary she gave us a card for complimentary champagne to be used in the hotel. She made sure that all of our questions were answered regarding the resort. Shortly after arriving to our room a box of Hawaiian cookies were delivered to our room, compliments of the general manager. Our room was spacious and very clean. Housekeeping came in daily with fresh towels and made the bed. Since COVID a lot of hotels don’t do that, but I truly appreciate that Marriott still values that service. The resort was beautifully maintained and had plenty of chairs and shade options around the pool. There were a few different swimming areas so you didn’t feel crowded by others. The beach was also great with several lounge chairs and offered a great place to watch the beautiful Hawaiian sunsets. We will definitely return to this resort when we come back to Hawaii. Thanks for a great vacation!
